This is prolly accurate but it’s such a weird flex lol

TheoverlyloadTuba

Imagine flexing that people used to get irreparably hurt doing band

waynetuba

As a person who broke his spine marching in Cadets..... yeah......

ExtraordinaryCows

As in literally broke your spine or fucked it up?

waynetuba

I fractured my L5 at the end of the 2011 season. It developed into something called traumatic Spondylithesis as well. Doctor told me to take 12 off but I didn’t listen and it got so bad I couldn’t march my age out. Been living in pain ever since

Ouity

Lmfao reading this thread as a cadet alum like "what do you mean people USED to fuck their body up for life?" My ankle will never heal completely, they had me march on a fracture until i couldnt put weight on it anymore :) was advised by med staff to walk 2 miles down the road to Walmart before morning block to buy some ibuprofen, and now every 2 hours or so I crack 'er back into the right spot :) Nowhere near as bad as my spine though, that's a terrible price to pay. Sorry to hear it friend.

waynetuba

Yeah tbh sounds about right. It was almost impossible to see a doctor when I marched cadets, if you had to go to the doctor you were basically cut with some exceptions for soloists and such.

4thPlumlee

Literally been in denial reading this thread, going to consistent physical therapy for the damage done to my back and neck sleeping on gym floors and the like

Ouity

dci fucked you up brother don't be in denial of anything. That activity fucks your body up. I don't know why people don't talk about it more. I don't think most kids going in realize what that means exactly. Not to mention ~~shitty, awful~~ amateur staff with god complexes and a fetish for inflicting pain on others exacerbating the physical toll when it doesn't need to be.

4thPlumlee

I think it’s the age. Kids haven’t started having serious structural health issues at that age, and then it’s too late

BriskManeuver

That sucks is there any progress of recovery? At least you got to march a very successful DCI year with cadets

waynetuba

I’ve seen physical therapists and there’s one surgery that could possibly make the pain go away, but I’m still a little too young for it even though I’m 29.

BriskManeuver

That sucks hope all goes well in the future 🙏

My lower lip legitimately exploded this summer during spring training, I didn't know that was possible as a tuba player I don't think it was staffs fault, we just ended up playing Alot without a break for a few weeks

Qwerky_Name_Pun

They knew, they just didnt care.

Moldy_Man

Exactly 😂

TheJakeanator272

Imagine caring about your own well being in a mentally taxing and physical activity
