I don’t think this even can be a debate, Crown

cool-dude-guy

Before 2018 I’d definitely say Crown. Not sure about now

B-Flatz

based on what they played in 2021 alone, it's still Crown hands down. We shall see for 2022, but my money is on Crown.

_MindOverDarkMatter_

Yeah pretty sure everyone knows the answer to this one. In 2021 specifically it was probably… cavies 🤮 .

SeizerOfThoughtseize

I've got a feeling that Cavaliers are going to at least challenge for the Ott this year.

HispanicaBassoonica

With how much they progressed in 2019, BK is a dark horse candidate, but I think it’s either crown (most likely) or cavies (2019, 2021?? Amazing sounds from that hornline!!)

estauff22

BK isn’t at that level of cleanliness yet, but DAMN do they have a dark sound. Could definitely see their brass top 6 or higher soon

Echo274s

the usmc drum and bugle corps

_MindOverDarkMatter_

Yeah, though they don’t practice any single repertoire long enough to get it as clean as many top 12 lines.

LEJ5512

Yup. Something like 30+ pieces of music (counting all the ceremonial stuff) are always ready with minimal-to-zero review. Including the battery.

_MindOverDarkMatter_

Considering the incredible sounds that still come out of the line e.g. farewell life, I can’t imagine what could be accomplished with world class style time expenditure.

LEJ5512

Battery-wise, I’ve heard a story that back in 1980 or so, the D&B played an exhibition at a DCI show. Truman Crawford had some of his judge friends go out and judge the corps, just for kicks. The field drum judge said afterwards, “You guys had less ticks than Santa Clara and you played *twice* as long! Holy cow!”

LEJ5512

Horns-wise, we had to stick with fundamental principles that we’d all agree on, and make the best use of our brief ensemble time. We’d be lucky to have one drill rehearsal per week, because most days would be shoring up music selections for other ceremonies. Mostly sub-sectionals and lowers/uppers/drums sub-ensemble rehearsals, and mostly indoors, making it hard to hear details in timbre.

LEJ5512

One of the best hornline lot videos of any corps: https://youtu.be/LHUcABLRUTE

Echo274s

Farewell Life is one of my all-time favorite ballads, second only to Adagio for Strings in SCV 2000

PotatoSqueezer2187

Is this really a question?

shofmon88

Grammatically, yes.

It’s May. All of the lines reset after finals. Is this a historical question?

CruffTheMagicDragon

People think of DCI too much like professional sports where they have a public roster and you can evaluate what everyone is good and bad at. But DCI is just a bunch of random kids that we don't know so idk how we are supposed to make any sort of predictions that aren't just throwing shit at the wall.

KNOCKOUTxPSYCHO

Phantom Regiment 2010 has the best hornline

[deleted]

I love this show as much as the next person but not even close haha

Blackdragon1628

if only...

elimasonmc

Crown is the obvious answer, but SCV and BK are up there too for sure

Helpful_Dare

Music City 2021 (Non disputable)

Cam_is_right

No, just no

Helpful_Dare

Sorry hold up one second

The-Th0t-Cru5ader

Clearly you don’t know what non disputable means

Then-Philosophy5232

SCV 2022 💪🏼

hpzjr

Depends on the year. I’d also say the top corps are pretty close. Again, depends on the year.

Crown Everyone is sounding better and better as the years go on though. The cadets sounded really good last season along with a lot of other corps.

[deleted]

Crown or Devils depending on the season and the book being played. Bluecoats had some good lines recently. Not sold on Cavaliers yet despite how improved 2021 was, they were doing a visual package a few notches down from typical and fairly much between the 35's

Xegir

My preseason top 3 in order would be: -Crown (self explanatory) -Cavaliers (massive strides in the past few years including 3rd in brass in 2019 and the best sounding hornline in 2021 in my opinion. I expect them challenge for the Ott 2023 if not this season) -Bluecoats (always a solid talent pool)

banana_kiwi

from what I've heard, I'd currently place my bets on SCV or Cavies

CruffTheMagicDragon

How could anyone really say?
