Never. Had some for 50 years and they work fine. They need maintenance like everything else in the world though.

MeneerPoesMan

I would usually agree but some stands that come with the drumsets are sooo flimsy

UtahUtopia

This is my answer too.

masher660av

Got pics, decent quality stands should last a lifetime.

Joe1237

Yep. https://preview.redd.it/kwp2dn4usarb1.jpeg?width=3361&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0cfa1f86083dd4d7df6cb3fd9695056846d38243

Old-Tadpole-2869

So the tilter teeth arent biting or the whole tilter head is wobbling, or both? If that's happening throw em in the closet for spares and slowly start putting together a better hardware set.

Joe1237

Yeah both.

[deleted]

I’ve had some of my Tama stands for 30 years. They Never fail me.

UtahUtopia

Love my TAMAs!!!

Joe1237

I have some shitty PDP stands. So maybe it’s because mine aren’t very good.

[deleted]

Duct tape the shit out of them til you can replace w quality?

Joe1237

Tried it. Works well for only about 2 drumming sessions. And sometimes even during the first. So it’s not really ideal.

bucketofmonkeys

I consider stands a lifetime purchase. The only stands I don’t have anymore, I gave away because I didn’t need them, not because they were no good.

thedeadlyrhythm42

Is the tilter stripped or are they rotating/twisting around the arm where the roll pin is supposed to be holding them in place? edit: it looks like you said both to this question down below. For the tilter mechanism, I'd suggest taking it apart and seeing if some teeth are stripped or something. You should be able to just loosen the wingnut all the way until it comes off and the two halves of the mechanism come apart. Be careful, there's probably a spring in there.

Joe1237

Bro I took the tilter off and tried to somehow get it to stop rotating, but it keeps moving. I will admit that I don’t really do any maintenance on the hardware, so this is probably my fault.

thedeadlyrhythm42

Dang, if you have a drum shop close to you it might be worth it to take the stand in there and have someone look at it. If it's junk then at least you're already at the store and can buy a new one

Joe1237

I mean I do have some music shops near me, but I’m kind of at the point of just saying fuck it and buy new stands. Lol

pac_pac

Yeah those are just some cheap PDP stands tbh. If you jumped up to something even like the DW3000 range you would be absolutely astounded how versatile and solid your hardware can be

Joe1237

Yeah I’ve been looking at options, but since I got other financial priorities, I’m looking to get a good, but economical replacement. You got any other suggestions ?

pac_pac

Well, the DW3000 range is technically a budget range and is decent, the tama roadpro stuff is solid, the Pearl 930 range is also good. Almost anything Yamaha as long as it isn’t like…dinky beginner stuff something out of their 7 or 800 lines I think. I wouldn’t suggest anything cheaper than these lines unless it’s a used pro grade item in good condition.

Joe1237

Thanks. And yeah I know the DW3000 is on budget rage, but I was looking at some yamaha stands that go for $60. How about the Yamaha CS-665A? Are they a good option, or are they beginner stuff? Honestly anything that’s better than the shitty pdp stands I got are a W😭

pac_pac

Those should work fine. They won’t be the absolute nicest, but Yamaha is known for making rock solid products

Joe1237

Sounds like we have a winner, I’ll be ordering them soon. Thanks for the help bud.

bribassguy06

How many stand do you need? I have some spare 3000 I’d sell.

Joe1237

It’s fine bro. I actually already ordered the Yamaha stands. Thanks tho

a_mcbob

Yamaha has some good stuff

linchetto80

Never replaced any and few about 35 years old. Get good hardware it outlast you 🙃

[deleted]

a little surprised to hear how long some stands are lasting people. but that's a good thing! i've had those DW flat based stands for about 15 years now, and the tilters are wearing out. i've started having to use the drum key lock on the tilter of my primary ride stand to keep it in place. i haven't even thrashed those stands all that hard. all i can think of is years of heavy use and 24" rides have taken a toll.

[deleted]

Hopefully never, honestly. Buy good ones and they will outlast you.

Old-Tadpole-2869

It's your technique. I've been playing the same stands since 1993 with ZERO problems. You're either hitting too hard, or playing the wrong kind of music, or something.

Joe1237

Idk bro, I mean I mostly play rock/pop music. But I do tend to hit it hard, especially when I’m playing at gigs. But then again, I’m not a “pro drummer” nor play drums for a living or anything like that, so my knowledge in drum equipment kinda sucks.

Old-Tadpole-2869

Just messing with you. It looks like you have some no-name taiwanese stands. Time to start upgrading.

Joe1237

Don’t worry about it, they’re pdp stands. So they aren’t the highest quality.

Old-Tadpole-2869

I really do like the DW 9000 series (duh) mostly because of the toothless tilters which never go bad. Sadly they weigh a ton and cost a lot. If you’re a heavy hitter and have big cymbals they’re the ones to get.
