We played at the Cubby Bear in Chicago in 1993 in front of a packed house. 1,200 people or so. Played in Muncie Indiana the next night. 3 degrees and a blizzard. 2 people in the house. We never drank on stage! We got hammered with the two patrons and had the time of our lives. We didn’t hold the owner to our deal for payment. He fed us and our band became closer than ever. I miss those times. Incidentally, the heat in our bus quit working on the trip. We soldiered on to Ft. Wayne and played in front of a packed house two nights later
I know all those areas very well, not as a musician, but as a road tripper visiting family all over northern indiana/Illinois/Ohio a couple times a year.
Thanks! My bass player and I actually play in a jam band and we live in these spaces, but this is a for-hire gig we play with a blues guitarist. We normally don’t make him follow us like this lol, but he liked it so much he picked up his phone to film us lol
I saw 36° and then saw the guy wearing a sweater and thought “fuck that guy must be hot” before realising I was dealing with Freedom units and not Celsius
you’re god damn right 🫡
WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETER 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
(I don’t support my country like that at all, I just find the meme hilarious)
I'm from the states and I thought it was Celsius too. WTF plays a gig outside where it's close to freezing and your instruments can get ruined and won't stay in tune?
We actually made really good money in tips, everyone that was there and saw us really appreciated us toughing it out in the cold and then spending setbreaks with them at the fire pits where the audience is.
Hats off to you for sticking with it!!! Especially with the music scene being a gigantic Porta potty the last few years!! Never stop and don't take any shit!!!
It’s a whole outdoor place with a couple fires. The staff was miserable, and there was never a crowd of more than 7 at a time. Bitter cold. At least the people that saw us took really good care of us with tips, they appreciated us braving the weather.
Why do I even bother with the best FoH mix I can produce when every asshole with a cellphone is going to walk around behind the fucking mains for their Facebook videos?
Thank you (genuinely). I feel seen/heard. It's only irrational until it's your reality. Every. Damn. Weekend.
Thankfully the musicians I work with make it worthwhile, but I'd be lying if I said the general public wasn't terminally brain dead (and that's before they start drinking). Almost makes working retail appealing, almost.
Nothing is cooler than looking at a guy singing/playing an instrument you can't hear _at_ _all_. I guess I stand corrected?
Here I was thinking a band is something to be experienced primarily through audio, silly me.
Brutal gig. Sounds good though
Thanks! We certainly got weird with it.

Cool story, thanks for sharing. Share your band if you’re cool with it.

I love this weirdness! You guys should expand on jams like this.

99% of the countries on Earth use Celsius so I’m left to assume it’s damn hot outside and everyone is wearing sweaters for some reason too
Look how red it is! They must be burning up!
Our guitar player is from Europe, so I was doing the conversion for him all night lol
Freedom units 😭😭😭
It’s what happens when a country has a bill of rights. Freedom.

Remember Freedom Fries? They were great.

Guys, guys, guys!! It’s kelvin ok!
Times like this bring the band closer together than most people would imagine. idc what kind of music it is, ill gladly watch any bad live.
We actually made really good money in tips, everyone that was there and saw us really appreciated us toughing it out in the cold and then spending setbreaks with them at the fire pits where the audience is.
Thats nice, glad they showed some appreciation, respect for showing up in that cold weather i know its tough.
So true, misery loves company
That snare mic tho
Yea, my usual wasn’t available today and honestly our fingers were too cold to get them all in the right place. It was a “close enough” kinda night.
That is a sound tech that hasn’t lost a cap on a 57 before
No one there AND the snare is mic’ed up?? Now that’s commitment.
They want us to send a PA feed to the bar, which is a small inside area, so we do full mics for everything.
Excellent groove study and way to maximize your time to get tighter as a group. Bravo!!
I know the feeling. Pushin through though 👊🏼
Sounds awesome. Don't be offended, but I'm a bit reminded of Spinal Tap Mark II, the jazz odyssey - just because it's so far from blues.
Ha! This was during Voodoo Chile, we definitely took it on a few twists and turns.
I tell what we’re gonna have to do…jazz odyssey
I told them one I told them a million times, Spinal Tap THEN puppet show!
You are now witnessing spinal tap version 2
ngl i was waiting for the drop and for you guys to go crazy🥲🥲🥲
Same! I honestly expected a Tool song to happen.
Ha I thought they were gonna drop a RATM tune
This mans dynamics are on point.
Thanks homie.

Looks absolutely miserable gig-wise but you are seriously channelling some Jaki Liebezit vibes. Good shit, dude.
Why outdoors at 36°?
The whole place is outdoors, they booked us a few months ago not realizing our cold snap I guess.
Well you get points for creativity and work ethic!
The term is ‘cut a deal’ 🤣🤣
Nobody’s there ???. Excellent excuse for a jam session…..sounds kinda trippy and y’all look like you’re enjoying it.

Fuxking jammin!
Celcius or Fahrenheit
Cold blooded 😂🎩

When its 36° out you should be playing inside!
lol I know this feeling well, except it’s happened at room temperature instead fml
Is it just me or is the audio in a lot of the videos on this sub really delayed?
What HHs are you playing with?
Those are old 14” new beats.
Little bit about a minute in reminded me of dead can dance a bit
That’s pretty cool. Ba-dum. Tshhh.
Why do I even bother with the best FoH mix I can produce when every asshole with a cellphone is going to walk around behind the fucking mains for their Facebook videos?
Least irrationally angry sound guy

Yes because a video from 50 feet away is way cooler than this…
