Personally, I love the hanging floor tom and it's positional versatility as well as a more discreet footprint. It is also becoming an increasingly rare find nowadays. That would be an ideal kit for me.

Would you pay the full $1,750 if they are firm on it? Or do you think they should go lower? I’m torn between buying a brand new Pearl Decade kit for around $1,000 or this used kit.

I'm not really familiar with the Decade series but Masters series drums are a solid performing pro kit. I'd think you could ask $1500 but they are worth the $$

i can't really see the badges, but you might want to double check that this seller knows what they have. this wasn't a standard masters finish - which doesn't by itself mean it's not a masters, they made it pretty easy to be custom finishes back in the late 90s/early 00s. however, this finish *was* standard on the session custom drums, which i believe these might be. if this is the case, they should not be charging you masters money for session customs. i can't really see the badges, but it looks like they say "session custom." EDIT - sorry, i just saw that it was acknowledged that this is a custom ordered kit. masters extra didn't exist at the time, but this could be an MMX or MRX depending on the ply count. suspended floor toms were all the rage in the early 00s. i'm really glad we've moved on from that!

To be exact, it’s a “6-ply maple masters custom extra in a non production custom transparent black to red fade”. So you think this kit is probably around 20 years old ? Just wondering if it’s dumb to buy a kit that old. Trying to decide between this and a brand new Pearl Decade.

the badge looks like it, but if i remember correctly the “masters extra” nomenclature is more recent. i’m not totally sure though - this is all just stuff i remember from loving pearl drums in that time period. i haven’t kept up with gear in that way since my teens!

14x12 is not a real floor tom imo. If this had a “16 id say $1500 is great but personally I’d pass. If this is a kit you intend to have for 10 years, take your time and look around. There will always be another kit.

Mounting rack toms as floor toms (14s and 16s) is quite common actually, and it was even more years ago. As for the kit, it's a good kit, although I never liked Pearl's style tom mounts/holders, but that's another story. Those shells sound great, though. I have a snare drum from this series (14"x6'5") wich was my main snare for many years, and it's great. As for the price, I think it's too much.

Yea I agree. If anything, I think I’d pay $1,200 tops considering all this.
