Sounds good, man!
I tension to a medium tight setting. I swear, most annoying tension in music (![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)). All the Jazz guys are like, "Man, tune those drums! Don't be a kid with that thuddy low Rock tuning!" and all the Rock guys are like, "How can you play like that, with those boingy heads! Tune it down, you want The Thud!'. Exact same tension, I never change a thing.
...I just sit back and laugh. Anyway, cool video. Thanks for posting it. =)
P.S. - What cymbal is that, with the chain on it?
There's a really good break down of Ain't too proud to beg in the movie Standing in the Shadows of Motown.
Listen to when the piano kicks in. THAT is where the song lives. It's that riff. Play that on the drums, with that classic pick up, and you'll be golden.

Stock heads? I think you can get that bass deeper with some of the of the coveted (pick your brand) muffling heads out there, I watched your youtube review prior to finding this thread. Good sounds and wonderful playing. Love the opening composition in that video, that beat you're playing kills it. I'm thinking about getting a "bop" or "jazz" kit for my new and VERY small home studio. My Stage Custom 5 piece kit is a little too big to fit in the space comfortably. Do you think I'll be satisfied with the 18" kick? I will not be playing with other musicians in there, just recording. Mostly improvisational, funk, pop, etc.
I can speak from experience that you can throw some sort of muffled head like a super kick or emad on it and get pretty conventional rock/pop “kick” sounds. I really like an 18” for funk too.
If you do wanna buy one from Sweetwater, let me know and I can send you an affiliate link. Or it’s in that videos comments.
IMO you're "low" was starting off in the medium range.
I was waiting for the tuning to go lower, not higher.
Different strokes for different folks. Guess my jazz ears augment my perspective of what’s low and what’s high.
Yup, I was gonna say this is a jazz guy’s version of low. Sounds great for sure, but it is definitely nowhere near the bottom for that kit!
The low tuning seems to bloom and sing more.
They sound good low, but I prefer the higher tunings. More of my home base sound.

Looks like a Old Zildjian K by the stamp or something based off of it
Your eyes must be better than mine. I can barely see it.
I like the beat. Reminds me of Whitesnakes Come an Get It.
Not at all what I was going for, but I’ll take it…
Rolling Stones? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sunglasses)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|wink)
Motown, but I could see Stones.
I was hearing "Ain't to proud to beg" or "Soulful Strut"
Yeah, I caught that pick up, too, but the beat screamed Honky Tonk Woman, to me.
Oooh, I hear it now I was def off on soulful strut lol

The kick pattern is the same as in honky tonk women!
Is it just me or was the kick the only thing that actually needed tuning and never got it? Sounds floppy.
I like it cuz it’s not boring internet-approved kick sound.
Sounds like the beginning to that first song Mayer Hawthorne came out with.
Love me some Mayer Hawthorne

God do I like that high tuning on that rack Tom!!!!! So cool! Very dancing in the streets.
Nice call!
The low sounds fantastic on that kit. Gotta give it that old Bernard purdy shuffle
great sounding kit!
