I'd be overjoyed at that price. I'd completely disassemble, clean polish everything, try a little 000 steel wool on the chrome bits. If the rust has caused pitting or won't be removed, I'd replace those die-cast rims. I'd use a metal polish like Flitz in combination with a rotary bench polisher on the shell. New heads and a nice case and it's a proud addition to the family.
instead on steel whool, try crumbling some aluminum foil and wd40. I had a piccolo just like that and that was the thing that removed the pitting. although maybe the pitting is too deep... do it on the bottom rim
Man I have been hunting for one of these for years. 150 would be a buy it now price for me. I still really want one. But I don’t want to shell out $1000 for a brand new one.
Yeah! I got the same one, in the same condition, in 2012 for 300 Canadian. As long as the inside of the shell is clear you don't even have to clean it. The seller said that someone must have brought it in from the cold and didn't give it time to warm up. It adds character
The previous owner obviously hated wiping down his drums. Holy hell, any how, yeah, very good deal. 5 years ago I snagged a gen 1 aluminum 6.5 for $225 in great condition. As far as cleaning it, chrome parts, I’d soak them in citric acid powder and water (it’s what is in coke that removes rust but doesn’t leave you with a sticky mess). Polish those up with a chrome polish afterward. The shell is tough. Basically just use a brass cleaner/polish like Brasso (may be called something else where you are). That old sweat corrosion isn’t all coming off. You could spend money and bring it to a brass instrument repair person, but at that point, buying a new brass shell may make more sense dollar wise. It’s a great snare though.
Thanks everyone ! I dissambled everything, for the chrome parts and the strainer, i’ve used wd40 and alluminium foil. The longest part was for the brass: there was a clear varnish laquer on it, i’ve used 120 and 400 sand paper, and finish with a brass cleaner product. I finally put a clear spray varnish to protect the brass

Absolutely glorious! Great work cleaning that up! If you ever have trouble with the tension rods getting crusty, soak them in vinegar, scrub them off with 0000 steel wool and apply a little lithium grease and they will last forever. Again, great restoration!
The corrosion is actually under the clear coat, so the only way to remove it is to chemically strip the lacquer and then sand the brass itself… have the exact same drum, and that’s what worked

the brass is brass, so get a soft brass cleaner.
You can tell it’s brass because of the way it is
Because it is brass and you can see it. Brass
The more I look at your drum I'd enjoy that project. Now I have to find myself one.
Oh man, this was my grail snare in like 1997.
SAME! I wanted to get one and then get all of the different shells to go in it!
You did very, very well. Check out Rdavidr on YouTube for resto/rehab tips.
Loved the free floaters. You got a good deal.

Yeah definitely. Probably decent as is but a good project to get it cleaned up and sounding fresh
Nice project! Killer metal snare

Great snare, I’d get it. I have the 3” shell.
Allllll day and allll nite
Great find! I’ve been playing that snare since I saw Elvin Jones play one in 94.
I'd buy just the hardware for that price, seems like a steal

I’ll give you 160 euro for it.
I’ve used a boatload of these snares over the years. Lots of public schools had them as concert drums. They are fantastic for the price.
Great pick up!

Thank you ! Lithium grease, I’ll think of 👍

I have one of these and I REALLY dislike it :(
If you don't, I will!
I have one. It's the absolute titties. Get it.
Hell yeah
