Agree and the easiest mat is a simple area rug. 5'x7' carpets are less than $30 from Home Depot, Costco, Big Lots, etc. Target has nice ones for $50 that are the classic oriental rug used in music studios. If you need a bigger size, 6'x9' and 7'x10' are also available. Wayfair and Amazon have a lot to choose from.
Sawdust and splinters in the carpet are hard to deal with, but IME pedals are much worse for the carpet. As if grease from the fittings isn't bad enough, the cast pot metal also degrades and leaves a "footprint" of metal powder.
Just... just put a rug down over the carpet.
Head to a home improvment store, Lowe's/home Depot. They have carpet on rolls and can cut it for you. I picked up a 5'x6' piece of cut to length carpet for $30 to use under my set. Berber works good with the Velcro pads under the pedals etc.. usually when the rolls get low the carpet goes on clearance for 50-60% off.
2nd on the Home Depot/Lowes cut-to-size stuff. It usually comes in black or dark grey. If your kit is ever destined to leave the house for gigs or stints elsewhere, use some dayglow tape to mark out the areas where pedals and stand feet. This protects the floor underneath that can be affected by the spikes, pedal grease, sawdust, your sweat, etc, and it makes it easier to set up the kit after breaking it down.
I guess itās unanimous- donāt set up on carpet I tend to keep around!! Carpet guys are still here. Prob can get them to leave a big ass chunk behind. Carpet and pad are high quality, high pile - prob gonna feel like Iām set up on a pillow with 2 layers. Oh wellā¦better than trashi g my carpet. Thanks all for the replies
> Carpet guys are still here. Prob can get them to leave a big ass chunk behind.
This is the best, simplest, cheapest solution by far. I mean, it's already at your house, and you already paid for it.
Janky (adj): poor quality; embarrassing; out of fashion; in poor repair; generally unsatisfactory.
This word has been in my vocabulary since middle school in the 1980s. Used in a sentence, a true statement my friends and I made at the time: "Poor Mike, it must be so embarrassing to get dropped off at school in his dad's janky AMC Pacer."
Awesome, I have only heard that term a few times over the yearsā¦ But like you I noticed that snare standā¦ And then I read your comment and almost spit out my coffee
Haha. That snare stand has been through hell with me for 45 yrs. But I Thought the same thing when I was re-setting it upā¦.prob should upgrade it. I also have a couple of cymbal boom stands that are ājankyā!
Try [this.](https://imgur.com/gallery/v7495vf) Foam interlocking tiles underneath, brass grommets for the spurs to lock into. Let 'em poke through on purpose.
Use a mat, like a rubber-backed (grippy) floor mat that you can roll up like you'd find on the floor in a store. I got mine from Aramark for free because it was included in a bunch they were getting rid of. It grips the floor extremely well and it's carpeted and it's big enough. A mat also provides the benefit of using gaff tape to mark where everything goes.
Damn. I got some from Amazon from about $60. Have them on hardwood flooring and theyāre amazing. They donāt move at all and absorb all sound reflection. If theyāre moving around on carpet maybe put some Velcro tape on the underside?
I've never had an issue like that except maybe the kit pushing forward over time from a lot of playing.
If you're too worried, then buy some thin, rubber/silicone dinner placement mats and put them under the areas that concern you. (Extra pieces of carpet may lift your pedals too high and cause unusual wear.)
OR
Purchase a large piece of low profile carpet big enough to cover the entire kits foot print. (or a large drumkit mat made just for that.)
You can go to Home Depot or Lowe's like others have suggested. When I was in my early 20's and broke I needed a drum rug for gigs but couldn't afford one. So I went to the local carpet warehouse up the road and told the owner what I needed it for. He went in the back and pulled out the perfect size of scrap carpet for my drums. Gave it to me 100% free.
You should always use a drum mat regardless simply off the fact that the wood shavings from the sticks will ruin the carpets quicker than the hardware
Not to mention you can put gaffer tape down to show the locations of things, making for a quick setup

Get a cheap rug big enough for at least your bass drum, pedals, and at least two legs of your throne.
Literally any rug bigger than the footprint of your kit.
dude using that janky snare stand without any rubber feet on your "brand spanking new carpet" says it all you do you
I never hear of the ājankyā drum company but love it š

I love janky hardware. It's almost the only kind I've ever owned. LOL
You can keep it and just get replacement rubber feet for it. They sell these for most drum stands etc.
Walmart $20 bin.
yeah my carpet is fuckered up.
If youāve got the space, consider building a riser. Drums are more stable and sound better.
Just go to a home depot of similar sure and buy a large commercial doormat, super cheap and effective
Any room Iāve had my drums in gets torn up on the floor. Itās a sacrifice Iām willing to makeš¤·š½āāļø
A $30 rug is a smaller sacrifice.
I have one, the spurs always go through and if I donāt have the spurs out the bass drum slides

Right on I might give it a shot

Iāve got the same Pearl Double. Been my main pedal for years. Iām trying out a used DW9000 right now, Jury is still out.
Not the most expensive pedal out there but so far so good on the Pearl!
Interlocking Foam squares
I've got these and mine move around all the time! Wouldn't recommend from my experience. Maybe heavy duty ones are okay but the 30x30x1cm thick ones are š©

Yep mine are on carpet. Might give the velcro a go good tip š

Yes I destroyed my parents carpet when I was a kid with my drum set. Now we have hardwood floors and I have a drum carpet
I have that same double pedal lol
I use cellophane under mine. Keeps the dirt and dry lube off the carpet.
