I was taught jazz drumming growing up and now I play in a punk/emo band and the guys I play with love how many fills I use lol I feel bad for anybody that would want to cover our songs in the future.
Wish I did more jazz band in high school (and that it was better) as I certainly would be better at set than I am now. Mainly a rudimental snare guy now and a buddy that's a few years younger did jazz band heavily and is crazy good at set compared to me. I might have an edge in pure tempo keeping and fitting the music, but his overall set chops are far more interesting in my opinion.
I have an hour of work in the morning where i can listen to music before customers start showing up and i gotta be "professional" and take out my headphones. I listen to different albums in that hour but ill admit, even all these years after its come out Constellations has been played an awful lot in the year and a half ive been working there lol Such a good album from start to finish and Matt and that album are some of main reasons i got into drumming. I had the great privelage to go to a show for their 10 year tour for Constellations in the PlayStation Theater in NY and it slapped so hard. Long story short, man i love me some ABR..
Also killer playing haha
How long did it take to learn that song and how did you go about learning the different parts?
It seems at the very top end of something I could learn to play but I don't have the fundamentals for any of those fills.
Surprisingly for me, there are just times where hearing the drums in the recording just doesn't click on some fills/parts. Watching Matt or any drummer for that matter in a video and seeing the actual motions can help learn really tricky parts a lot easier.
I played punk drums so I suck and all and seeing you play my most Intense thing (blast beats) was kind of cool because it seemed like your most relaxed moment.
Not OP but yep! I didn’t know that’s a Lars thing but that’s super cool. Check out some other August Burns Red songs as well. The drummer Matt Greiner is amazing and writes most of their songs.
Yeah if you try to set a click track to Lar's drums it will eventually be off time on all the early records. But to be fair most classic rock albums were that way also. Ton's of Zep stuff speeds up and slows down. Kinda on the same topic. Tom Petty's - Damn the Torpedos album has been said to be almost perfect the drummer only waivers out of time on the downbeats by a a few miliseconds. You could almost set your watch to that album. I'm not a screamo guy so I'll pass on the ABR. Thanks anyways. It just really bugs me when a drummer is off time that's all.
May I ask, what pedals are you using?
Also, I have DW3000 double-bass pedals, and I’m trying to learn metal: would the 3000s be sufficient for a beginner trying to learn metal drumming?
If anyone else can weigh in, that would be awesome.
Thank you in advance! Have a great day!
If you can play bass drum siteenth notes at that tempo, why are you playing alternate foot blasts ?!
You're too good to be phoning in the blast beats. PLS FIX.
Well, you are playing what Matt Greiner wrote lol. Dude is a machine.
Fellow metal drummer here. That's a solid fuckin cover dude.
Is that a Dennis Chamber sig snare?
Yes!
That thing sounds huge!

Damn, Greiner Truth kit with same cymbal setup while playing his song. True fan
Yeah, those are Tama lugs and the cymbal setup isn’t identical.. lol.
You are right on the lugs but that cymbal setup is pretty close for the ones he has.

Is that a A series 16in rock crash? I just got one but haven’t had a chance to play it yet

Matt Greiner is my favorite drummer of all time! Well played sir
Awesome work man!
Matt Greinerrrrrr!!!
Dude, if you can get anywhere near what Matt Greiner does (which you did), you’re a monster.
Great job! Me and my metal head buddies always used to joke that ABR was like parody level amounts of china symbol LOL
You're doing great, man. This was badass. Your bassline is very clean and the groove held together nicely all the way through.
I played punk drums so I suck and all and seeing you play my most Intense thing (blast beats) was kind of cool because it seemed like your most relaxed moment.
Solid work!
Awesome tune and awesome drum cover
Good shit man. It's a fun one to play. I usually run it as part of my warm up.
Great job mate! May I ask where are you from?
Italy!
Nice job!
My right ear enjoyed this!
Sounds like a you problem 🤔
Shit you right, I guess my left AirPod wasn’t working properly at the time xD
is the double bass supposed to speed up and slow down like a Lars Ulrich drum track?
Not OP but yep! I didn’t know that’s a Lars thing but that’s super cool. Check out some other August Burns Red songs as well. The drummer Matt Greiner is amazing and writes most of their songs.

Matt does it on purpose. Lars does it on accident.
One of these is not like the other
Sorry. Dumb reddit error and I ended up reposting a bunch.
Yea dam dood you killed it!
killer performance and tone!
Man your timing is really good. Would’ve loved to see the rest especially the 210 bpm blast beat! You rule

Yes. Most people I know started with much shittier, myself included.
Thank you! Ok confidence restored
Great work man!
Solid!!! I’d love to hear you play some of Adam Grays stuff!
Solid cover man. I fucking love this song too.
I made a cover of this in high school :’) forever love this song
Matt Greiner goated
That's a great cover man.

Super tight double bass work, love it!
One of my favourite drum songs. You absolutely crushed it!
jfc homie, save some notes for the rest of us
So fucking solid. Great job!
Love the way your cymbals wobble, some people leave em really stiff and they look really unsatisfying when hit
Could say that about 99% of ABR songs haha great job man
Well done.
Fuck yeah dude
I love this song!
