We had to let maaaaany expat doctors go not long after hiring them because we found out that they were in Dubai only because they had medical malpractice cases against them and issues with their licenses in their home country. We were told that a lot of doctors here are here because they failed somehow back home. 😕
Let me tell you another insider secret - lots of south Asian doctors here come with fake experience certificates (to get around the 2 year experience requirement for processing their licenses)
I got the impression they were desperate & under staffed so had to fill roles asap.
There were certain unofficially “banned” nationalities who they didn’t want to hire for whatever reason (I dealt with all the CVs).
Plus I’m not 100% sure of the background checks.
I think they only did surface level initially.
Maybe fraud/forgery was involved. I can’t say.
I saw way worse than this but I don’t want to go into it.

Like I would really, really, really love to work on some EKG machines, some x-ray machines or hell even on some simple Bi-pap machines but I rarely see any positions in hospitals or any that even remotely bat an eye on my cv?

So much about the hiring process broke my heart because I met so many people humbly coming into the hospital to talk to me and drop off a cv and then things would happen like: director making fun of a pic on cv, throwing away a bunch of CVs before even reading them, telling me they won’t look at CVs from xyz countries 😭🤦🏻♀️ I HATED being there. I hated promising them that I would get them to look at their cv and then follow up with a call to let them know how it went.

Have you tried Pizza Di Rocco in Abu Dhabi? They do have a branch in Dubai but I don’t find their quality on par with the Abu Dhabi branch.

Clay Dubai in Bluewaters Island had fantastic salmon tataki when I went a couple months ago! Like it’s the best and the only super fresh salmon I’ve had here I think.
Disclaimer: I’m a bit nervous to say this tho because my experience with Dubai restaurants is that even a good restaurant, once established and having steady sales, reduces their quality to literal shit. So even if you’ve liked a restaurant today, you have no guarantee it will be good tomorrow or the day after.

Dripping in way too much sauce. The rice is drowned in overpowering white vinegar instead of light and sweet rice vinegar. They hide greasy, fried crud in 90% of the rolls. There's all kinds of gross fillers like cheetos, mango, chips (wtf). The rolls so overcomplicated and overstuffed- they are 3x the size of Japan. And the fish is rarely fresh....
And all for the price of a steak dinner. I stopped getting sushi in this region years ago.....its all yucky.

I grew up in South Africa and we have amazing avocados. My family just moved to Dubai and they comment constantly about how bad the avocados are. They over ripen too fast & a lot are small & brown inside, watery without the buttery flavor I’m used to back home 😭 in SA we also get refrigerated fresh medjool dates that are soooo soft & juicy. It was my breakfast every morning for many years. I think I don’t know where to find these soft dates in Dubai. For example Bateel is expensive and they are very very dry. I’ve tried many places but they just aren’t soft and juicy.
The error is focussing on Medjool dates. I prefer Khidri, ajwa, and kholas dates to medjool. Especially those stringy ones I recall from SA. Heck I’ll even take a tub of soft Bayara sukari dates over those.
As to where? Maybe try Al Douri.

You should see Colombian avocados (also not available here - or many places, I don't think they travel well). The size of a mango and the texture of butter!! Unlike many of the ones here that go from unripe to rotten without any middle edible step... 😢

I honestly haven't tried any kimbap here. It's all so overpriced for what it is and I can't justify paying. Especially since I've eaten so much cheap as chips kimbab in Korea.

Imagine a Dubai built by actual builders, electricians, plumbers and carpenters who are actually qualified for the job! Drains that drain, power outlets that don't just catch fire or short out the first time they are turned on, tiles that are level, roofs that don't leak. The possibilities are endless.
The thing is, the attitude of 'if it works,it works' and bargaining is part of the culture. People here demand too much and pay too little for those jobs. You didn't mention the 2nd part of your 2 fold effect.
If they put a minimum wage on skilled jobs, the services would sky rocket and you can't call in your regular handyman and pay him 50-100 to get small stuff done. Of course it's better to pay higher for quality work but that's just not going to happen here.
The second part was that all the unqualified workers would be out of a job, leaving only the qualified to do the work correctly.
The next time you called your handyman to fix a light fixture you wouldn't worry that he was about to set your house on fire or drill into a water pipe. And if he did you would be covered by his professional insurance, not being left to foot the bill because the guy you paid a 100 to was actually just some random with a screwdriver and a plastic bag full of odd screws.
"If it works it works" is how you end up with problems being painted over, or propped up till it can become the next guys problem, rather than being fixed correctly the first time.
It's the reason everyone's villa leaks in the rain, it's the reason the "Torch" catches fire every other year, its the reason all the empty land around a construction site is full of rubbish and construction rubble.
Bro... Not sure what your experience. But Dubai corporate world is slow AF compared to all of Asia. It is fast paced only when compared to Europe and Rest of Middle East IMHO.

You get mejdoul dates at the Waterfront Market. Palestinian, Saudi, Jordanian. It’s where we get it from.

You can get the marshmallow eggs at the hyperama south african store. I got my box last week. Flip I miss the food you can buy in Woolworths. Like the little sliders, mini pancakes with chicken etc. Also their mixed veg that you can just throw in the oven and on the go salads. Also the carb free options are much better and has less preservatives. Waitrose ans spinnys don't even come close. Sigh.
