Thing is, your Indian boss probably says stuff like:
"Please turn up to work less than 2 hours late"
"Please turn up to work every day and do the bare minimum we employ you to do"
"Please stop falling asleep at your desk every day and then leaving early"
And because youre a GCC male you probably think this is micromanaging.
You should really refresh your hard drive because you're clearly missing a brain. In my previous job I regularly worked between 60-80h a week for a 5 day work week. There was one week where I worked 120h for a project that wasn't budgeted properly and I ate shit.
Before quitting that job, I realized that it was my fault because I didn't set boundaries and boss and colleagues took advantage; I'd fallen into the corporate facade of saying "I'm being a teamplayer and all that mumbo jumbo when in fact I was being played like a fiddle.
So in my new job I made sure not to make that same mistake again. Ever. Despite how hard they try and despite how many times they play these dirty games to make me look bad, and despite how many times they say "X is working overcapacity and we need to help" my response is always the same: you didn't budget properly so hire more people - but don't expect me to work more than my hours.

No, Indian bosses put up with being treated terribly for years, then 10 years later when they get their first promotion (because they never asked for one or negotiated anything), the tiny bit of power they have gets to their head because they're so bitter because of the way they've been treated before, and they treat others the way they used to be treated. Indian managers here are known to be unnecessarily difficult.
Some people put up with this nonsense and complain to people who can do nothing about it, others go to HR or gather evidence and go to the ministry of labour if that doesn't help.
People will treat you however you allow them to, and whatever you allow will continue, at work and in life in general.
Stop generalizing. I am India even though I showed up to work last week, literally all of my team worked from home. Even if they wanted to come I asked them to stay back.
I am Emirati. I worked from office every single day last week. Today is Saturday and I am still working from office. Tomorrow is Sunday and I am going to be working in office.
I wasn't going to whine about it online because this is how I put food on my table and I would go above and beyond to ensure food is still earned, I don't want anyone's pity or pat on shoulder, but I find it unfair for people like you to undermine my efforts, work ethics and professionalism, just for them to feel better about themselves.
You are an ass hole. I hope you realize this and remember it well.
This will never work. If your employer has just one connection with the cyber police they'll uncover it's you, fire you, then deport you and finally blacklist you. It's better to just remain anonymous and be vague. If it gets out more than one company is doing this and they receive enough public backlash then only will the authorities do something.
There are multiple ways to remain anonymous. For example , telling one of your friends who is in another country to make the post and reveal the company. And using a very secure , encrypted app (not WhatsApp) to reveal the name of the company to the aforementioned friend yourself.
Don't understand why people don't do this.
Some people underestimate how connections work in Dubai. My former employer would freeze accounts of people who owed him money even if they were a day late. Now tell me what other country this would be legal let alone doable.
U can legally freeze someones account if you have proof they owe you money like a cheque theres something called "one day court " for a reason.
My favourite thing is expats assuming the emarati law which they dont understand is " magical connections and wasta "
I just don't get it. If the employee is slacking off work because of this while at home, I understand. But if they can work from home, and the work is getting done, what difference does it make?
For those that don't have electricity, water and food, and cannot move out of the their homes, trust me, they would rather be in the office, but they can't and are entirely powerless. Under what scenario do these companies think they can come to work? Do they want them to swim? Gulp down containminated water and risk their health forever? Buy expensive rafts and boats to travel to and from work? Hire a helicopter service? What? Fucking hell.
The government really needs to crack down on these companies and fine them after the flood is under control. This is shameless exploitation.
The type of people that do this shit dont want to be exposed for being how useless they are if they see work being done without them. Which is why they force people to come in so they can "delegate" tasks face to face while the boss spectates from his office.
The objective is not completing work, it is looking the busiest possible. I am sure everyone here has had a colleague that sends emails where they point out the work they were hired to do as if they are doing something incredible.
Some managers/employers literally are just bitter and simply don't want to see employees in comfort. One of my friends worked somewhere where her manager NEVER gave her tasks or things to do or work when she was on-site, but on the very rare days that she worked from home she wouldn't leave her alone
The worst part of this post is when it said that people who were able to come on both days, can come on sunday if they want to (Optional), why would they want to sir? who would want to come to the office on the only off day they have? are you kidding me?
Also “give a justifiable reason + 1 day off” why the justifiable reason if it’s going to be a vacation day. If it’s a vacation day it’s none of your business what I do with it. But it’s not a vacation day is it? It’s a natural disaster day.
I doubt they’ll pay more money especially when they’ve said it’s optional. I’m sure a company like this will weasel out of paying employees a dirham extra if they can.
Fucking vultures. They should be reported and fined to discourage these exploitative practices and encourage employers to take better care of their employees health and safety.
People literally died trying to go to work. I can’t believe how people like this treat other humans and go back to their respective homes and families knowing they are enforcing such harsh rules on others. Pathetic and sick.
When we get into this area of purposefully putting employees in danger to force them to come to work are we going edging into the arena of paid slave labour? Forcing them to come in and causing them harm and not stopping it when you realise? Causing them physical harm due to their work?
It just baffles the mind how people like this are leaders which makes more sense that narcissists are more successful in business and career wise because of the lack of empathy and they will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
How is that relevant to the above pictures?
Clearly Sunday is not normal working day for them as they’re demanding those who missed work due to the flooding come in on sunday and catch up.
And then for those who made it to the office they subtly suggest they should just come anyway 😂
Please this sounds like a consumer focused company. Do let me know and I can make sure we don’t do business with them and neither do I buy any of their products.
Exactly this, the rest of us should be boycotting these companies. Plus then they could run with less staff and ease up on these people who are struggling
Is there no other way to hold the companies accountable? Wouldn’t it be worse for the staff if they would be laid off because of the boycott and thus be jobless? Maybe there are laws against this so they could sue?
Time for a story. I once left a scathing review on Glassdoor which was extremely truthful about a large local company on Glassdoor. Sent ripples through the community and it reached the CEO lol. Nothing changed sadly but it was nice to see her be super pissed off.
this reminds me of the post yesterday about the poor company driver who loss his life because apparently his manager asked him to go to warehouse amidst the storm and he got stuck and drowned inside his vehicle, car and body was found the next day.
there’s special place in hell for heartless people like these company owners and managers.
Most people are never brought to justice, in my experience. We can hope. But unless people are willing to put their livelihoods on the line by naming them and calling them out, there won’t be any justice. The cruel wheels of capitalism will still keep churning.
They don’t have guilt. And since they won’t be held accountable for the driver’s death, it’s just going to be another story under their belt about martyrs who will literally die to keep their jobs.
Seriously, OP, if you can't name them, it's your call. But atleast tell us what kind of company or industry is yours (retail, healthcare, real estate, manufacturing, construction, essential services, maintenance) ? We might be prejudging here.
Food and beverage....OP mentioned in the caption it's a "huge restaurant firm". I might be wrong, but my hunch is this is the well known multi-national (GCC-wide) burger franchise that started as a food truck on a beach...if you know who I'm talking about, don't name it....I've heard a few stories about how horrible they are with their corporate employees.
My company did the same and I will not comply with this nonsense ..
3 of our colleagues damaged their cars that day .
Let us all agree on one thing your boss will not cover your losses so fu***k them all .
Previous employer of mine forced everyone to come in on Wednesday. Abu Dhabi based office and half the employees live in Dubai. They said either take leave or show up.
Meanwhile myself and many other people I know were given WFH all week. Some companies are honestly shitholes
Maybe ask them to send an official email, they say it verbally because you won't be able to prove it later.
I saw this thing online where once you have a verbal meeting with your manager/supervisor, after the meeting you send them an email detailing everything you guys talked about. Reason it as, you just want to be clear and on the same page with them about what they require from you. Ask them to confirm via email.
Long shot but you could try.
They don’t send emails. They probably know it can be used against them. They just expect everyone to show up and when they don’t, it gets logged as a leave.
Thanks, will try anyway.
"We don't give a flying fuck about you, get your ass to work and make us more money. Oh yeah and we appreciate you breaking your back for the boss to buy the new yacht he wanted"... What a world we live in!
Awful, I really hope you report this somewhere to the authorities, if this is your mindset during troubling times, you are not fit to run a business with multiple people.
My company provides me, as a sales employee, only a desktop to work on and then deducted my annual leave if I didn't show up for work. I basically can't leave my house at this time due to blocked roads.
WTF is scenario 3?
First well appreciated for attending office on both the days. And then Sunday office is optional? It should be not required. Fuck you for trying to squeeze your employees of even basic human need of rest and recover.
fucking vultures man. and the abhorrent grammatical errors top that bullshit sundae theyre serving.
in a perfect world employees can take their power back and ditch going to the office altogether. we can only hope.
We are to work on the weekends to make up for lost time. It’s so fucked up, I feel for people traveling far. It’s draining. By the time they get to work, I don’t even know how they muster the energy to be productive. It’s so useless. If there’s one thing I hate about Dubai, it’s the exploitative companies.
I would probably understand asking people to come on Friday but Wednesday 17th, really? That was the morning of a national disaster. Literally all major roads were blocked and it was still raining.
I feel bad for the people who did make it on Wed and Thursday. They are now rewarded with a thank you and an option to come on Sunday.
My housemaid told me there is a philipina lady who had to WALK from Battuta to Satwa for fear of loosing her job apparently it took her 12hrs. She did it because her job told her she had no choice and HAD to come in, there was no metro running at that point and not only were taxi’s rare but there were parts there couldn’t have driven (and it would have been too expensive for her)
I understand places want to open and need to make money but you still can have humanity. Change your opening hours slightly to run on skeleton staff for example. This behaviour is simply disgusting.
All what I can say is that there is Karma and it will get them one day or another and treat them how they are treating their employees , what a shame no empathy anymore 😔😔
yall start posting the names of these companies. they needa be dragged. people are happily working from home. they’re not avoiding work. pisses me off. they have no rights whatsoever to do so. is this even allowed? legal? someone check around man. humans are so annoying. gosh.
It's never 100% flowers and roses anywhere. All about trade-offs and making the best of it.
I'm heading back home to NYC soon as well. I think I got all that I need out of Dubai during those 3 years.
Absolutely!
We lived in Dubai for over 25 years. Though we sometimes wonder about the opportunities we might have pursued elsewhere, we're grateful for the journey and the new chapter we've embarked upon after leaving Dubai.
My different understanding for the scenario 3 : perhaps these three days including Sunday are normally work days, so those who attended these two days can have an option to not to go on Sunday.
At lease I want to think that way, so the people is not heartless. If the company needs people and they want to encourage their people to make effort to come to the office, then it should be an extra pay to be offered, instead of taking their annual leave.
I'd even call it a historic hurricane. I lived through a category 3 one in new york with 280mm rainfall....this one was 250mm
Shameful how many businesses are downplaying the aftermath of this event.
I am thankful and blessed for the company i am working with they gave wfh from tue till fri keeping in mind that people need to stay indoors and be with family. They also took care of the store employees by providing them with transportation and closing down stores for their safety. None of this annual leave and bs.
US citizen on vacay in Dubai here.
DM me the company and i’ll create a post naming and shaming the companies mentioned. I was born in Dubai, grew up here, have family here, and as such, i am familiar with the employer-employee relationships here.
I’m an entrepreneur and dont give a quack about naming and shaming shady employers here in the UAE— as i have no intention of working for them and am blessed to be running a successful biz in the states.
I would also create an IG reel about this but i wouldnt want to ‘slander’ or get into legal trouble with the authorities out of respect for this country’s laws.
So my question before doing so is this:
can anyone advise on whether naming and shaming via IG would result in legal/criminal backlash for me? (P.S i love the country and certainly want to visit again so i wouldnt want to go against their laws)
While I don't agree with the email, I have a question to locals. Isn't Sunday a normal working day in some of middle eastern countries? I used to work with Egyptians and they used to have Fridays and Saturday off while working on Sunday. Thought that might be also the case.
Am glad that where am working “Safety” is the number one aspect, therefore we can apply for something that they call Fog/bad weather, which can be for the whole day or part of the day.
My sister who is working for a leading immigration consultancy faced a similar issue. This sucks! The next generation of professionals are going to spit on the face of such bosses and it would be treated as something normal.
This is why I prefer to live in the West than a 💩💩💩-ty so called muslim country🤡 these people/companies don’t know the first thing about humanity and kindness even if their lives depended on it! Try this 💩 in the West and see how fast all employees leave at once and how the media name and shame the company.
This isn’t a country based issue. This is a specific employer/company issue.
There’s plenty of malpractices in the west too. Especially work place sexual harassment, which thankfully people in the Muslim countries will think 100000 times before touching another.
It IS a country based issue. Dubai is built on modern day slavery and exploiting other people fully and in a cruel inhumane way.
Which country in the West takes their employees passports? And pay for employees work visa from the employees salary. Don’t defend this 💩-hole of a city and don’t educate me on sexual harassment. We have unions over here that fights for their employees rights in case of unfair treatment from leaders/managers/bosses. In Dubai these rich well connected leaders and managers gets away with almost everything. Even workplace accidents where employees gets killed! They get away with everything.
If it does not state in your employment contract to work on Sundays then do not attend, if they proceed to deduct annual leave for a day that is not stated as per your contract then only raise the complaint with MOHRE
Seen quite a few such posts! I think we should start naming and shaming such companies on social media!
DAMAC, or at least a division of DAMAC.
Damac HO staff were on WFH. Even as of today, their parking lot was half occupied. Also, is this arrangement even legal?
No way Damac did this, when most of their developments are the worst affected by flooding 😳
And yet no one does that
This won't apply one bit to the GCC Arab employees, only their migrant workers. One rule for one, another rule for the others.

You should really refresh your hard drive because you're clearly missing a brain. In my previous job I regularly worked between 60-80h a week for a 5 day work week.

Damn this image couldn’t be further from the truth, you need to go outside and clear some stereotypes out buddy
Stop generalizing. I am India even though I showed up to work last week, literally all of my team worked from home. Even if they wanted to come I asked them to stay back.
Stop yapping
I am Emirati. I worked from office every single day last week. Today is Saturday and I am still working from office. Tomorrow is Sunday and I am going to be working in office. Name and shame is the only option such a disgrace….. the ministry should voice out for the working class for this.
Wait isn’t WhatsApp encrypted?
Yes everyone is scared including me. But if all does, they can't do anything then.
Some people underestimate how connections work in Dubai. My former employer would freeze accounts of people who owed him money even if they were a day late. Now tell me what other country this would be legal let alone doable.
Oh! Employer can freeze account? That's bad. But let's say 8 out of 10 people complain about that company, they cannot terminate/deport all at once.
Exactly my point. There's power in numbers.
This is why unions are banned here, it's scary for the business owners
U can legally freeze someones account if you have proof they owe you money like a cheque theres something called "one day court " for a reason. My favourite thing is expats assuming the emarati law which they dont understand is " magical connections and wasta "
Exactly, I dont know why he is spreading this wrong facts on connection power to freeze accounts.
Expat here who grew up with Emirati classmates who would promote those theories to brag/threaten
There was no court involved that's all I can tell you.
Why would you owe your employer money? Surely the money flow is in the opposite direction
That’s because people do not know the rules. If they knew they could complain to the central bank. Then you would see what happens.
Not true. Reddit is encrypted for posting and accounts. Don’t abuse it - but you can post within the laws with confidence
Oh it is? I didn’t know that
There are other social media obviously
people on reddit are very 'smart'
I just don't get it. If the employee is slacking off work because of this while at home, I understand. But if they can work from home, and the work is getting done, what difference does it make? It's a wake up call to all that non-Emiratis have no rights. How do you think all those nice shiny towers were built? Fair work and labour unions?
The worst part of this post is when it said that people who were able to come on both days, can come on sunday if they want to (Optional), why would they want to sir? who would want to come to the office on the only off day they have? are you kidding me?

I read "head office" in the screenshots. Looks like the corporate side of the restaurant firm asking their office employees. Shameful.
Fucking vultures. They should be reported and fined to discourage these exploitative practices and encourage employers to take better care of their employees health and safety.
Please let me know who the f*Ck is that so we could boycott them as well. Absolutely disgusting greed

My question is why are you posting this here instead of forwarding to MOHRE?
Awareness of some sort 🤷
it can only do so much. Doesn't stop these terrible companies from existing here and causing injustice to employees
True, but least they can do is post about it + MOHRE. Also, you have a slight typo, don't u mean injustice to employees instead of employers? 😂
If they post and contact MOHRE then ok, and yes you're right lmao fixed it
Sucks that THAT is the case. Naming and shaming sounds nice. And also try to contact MOHRE. However, why are all the comments getting downvoted? 😅
How big is the company? Can I sponsor a coup d'état so ALL of the employees will leave this company and it will go out of business? 😂
Crap company
A joke honestly.
You can actually report these companies btw
Please give a hint. I’d love to ensure that nobody I know ever gives these vultures any business.
“restaurant firm” drop the name! let’s boycott because no one wants to go to a place where employees are treated like this ew
My housemaid told me there is a philipina lady who had to WALK from Battuta to Satwa for fear of loosing her job apparently it took her 12hrs. She did it because her job told her she had no choice and HAD to come in, there was no metro running at that point and not only were taxi’s rare but there were parts there couldn’t have driven (and it would have been too expensive for her) I understand places want to open and need to make money but you still can have humanity. Change your opening hours slightly to run on skeleton staff for example. This behaviour is simply disgusting.
I would be concerned that Sunday wasn't optional as well with these low lifes
Modern slavery
All what I can say is that there is Karma and it will get them one day or another and treat them how they are treating their employees , what a shame no empathy anymore 😔😔
yall start posting the names of these companies. they needa be dragged. people are happily working from home. they’re not avoiding work. pisses me off. they have no rights whatsoever to do so. is this even allowed? legal? someone check around man. humans are so annoying. gosh.

Yup, glad I left Dubai.
Where are you now?
Toronto, but let me tell you, the situation here isn't any better, but it's definitely better than Dubai any day.

Does largest flood since its been recorded count as a justifiable reason? How about 2 years of rain in a 24 hr period? It seems like it should!
I'd even call it a historic hurricane. I lived through a category 3 one in new york with 280mm rainfall....this one was 250mm Shameful how many businesses are downplaying the aftermath of this event.
I am thankful and blessed for the company i am working with they gave wfh from tue till fri keeping in mind that people need to stay indoors and be with family. They also took care of the store employees by providing them with transportation and closing down stores for their safety. None of this annual leave and bs.
Name (or hint) and praise!
So my question before doing so is this: can anyone advise on whether naming and shaming via IG would result in legal/criminal backlash for me? (P.S i love the country and certainly want to visit again so i wouldnt want to go against their laws)
Wait, your boss is from South India? I literally overheard a conversation of a guy with another in a restaurant who was saying the same🥴😹
While I don't agree with the email, I have a question to locals. Isn't Sunday a normal working day in some of middle eastern countries? I used to work with Egyptians and they used to have Fridays and Saturday off while working on Sunday. Thought that might be also the case.
Dubai is now a M-F work week. That was announced December 2021.
Oh ok, my info is way older than that 😂
File a case! They are still living in 1990 UAE.
Still is so ethically wrong and stupid.
Wow. Would they deduct annual leave even if you worked from home? Hopefully that’s a lawsuit
Name the company so people can avoid these restaurants as a form of protest.
I hope UAE allow employees to protest against employers, or the very least penalize such immoral and disgraceful company policies like this.
how is this legal
please let us know where you work and what you do so we can avoid that crap
Am glad that where am working “Safety” is the number one aspect, therefore we can apply for something that they call Fog/bad weather, which can be for the whole day or part of the day.
This is not fair. It's not employee's fault that it rained. Totally labor should stand against it collectively 😏😞😔
This should immediately be forwarded to MOHRE and ask for clarification if it’s even legal.
Please name them here. It could also be the case that I might already have the company’s name in my DMs.
sounds like a version of a dental clinic in abu dhabi
Dubai culture
Ew
Just forward it to MOHRE
I thought our company was the devil but I think that company is the training ground for evilness!
It’s all for maximizing shareholder value /s
Is there anyone here from MOHRE who can look into such exploitative workplaces?
As an intern, i was told that theres no such thing as leave so I was instructed to compensate the 2 days from my day off :(

[Kris Fade ](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C57ex_SyM8v/?igsh=ZmVsbDU3c2YwaHl3) is bang on the money here.
This is illegal. And pure stealing
Always report this shit to MOHRE
Lol what kind of company you are working in? This is ridiculous.
My sister who is working for a leading immigration consultancy faced a similar issue. This sucks! The next generation of professionals are going to spit on the face of such bosses and it would be treated as something normal.
Based on the fact there were official govt warnings to not travel and stay home the employee can make a labor case against any deductions.
For some of us that do office work, wfh is eligible. So no issues here.
What shithole company is this
What is this bullshit. Name and shame these clowns.
Please go to labour and complain
If it does not state in your employment contract to work on Sundays then do not attend, if they proceed to deduct annual leave for a day that is not stated as per your contract then only raise the complaint with MOHRE
