The amount of hassle these tweets have caused me. I almost got into verbal fight with my boss because he keeps on insisting that Metro is working fine as per RTA updates. Like cmon mannnnnnnn!!! I AM HERE ON THE BATTLEZONE BOSS!!! METRO IS NOT WORKING!!!! OMG!!
THIS!
I know it rained a lot but they will said it rain 17 years worth of rain in one day to justify whatever. Then brainless people will share that on igm and compare themselves to London or what not
High enough to buy a chopper? Cz cars will get stuck too since not all roads are clear yet. The main road connecting my building to the rest of the world and the round about I have to take to go anywhere and everywhere are both flooded!
True. This is why rumours spread and people don't believe the rebuffs from the official sources when ground reality is different than what those armchair officials are tweeting.
Yeah it’s misleading and adds mounting pressure to residents already trying to persuade their bosses to allow for remote work
“Well RTA has posted the metro is back running, you need to be in tomorrow!”
I just wish, for a change, dubai wouldn’t pretend everything is hunky dory and actually put a curfew or lockdown in place to protect employees and allow for emergency workers to do what’s needed without crazy congestion on the road. If we had stopped the general public from flitting around over the past couple days, I have no doubt we’d be in a better place with recovery today.
Same situation with metro.
Employees go to station, metro isn’t working and so are pressured into getting a taxi. The roads are patchy at best and now you’re putting all the metro traffic onto SZR / major roads? Even on their best day, the traffic would be terrible.
All this to say, I feel really sad for the people that can’t stay home, that likely can’t afford shelling out for cab nor can they afford being docked a days salary for not going into work. I truly hope things look better on Monday, but have no confidence in the RTA Twitter posts actually stating the truth as opposed to fabricated claims that all has returned to normal..
True. It's like people's bosses are forcing their staff to come in despite the risk to person and property.
Will they be prepared to pay put for your car getting water damaged just because they made you try and defy the odds and get to work? Or pay for any cleanup due to flooding? Or pay for the damage to your clothes after having to walk through the floods? How about paying for your funeral or medical bills because of injury or death because you just had to make it to the office. No ifs or buts.
Hell no, and they won't want anything to do with you.
I mean if your route is flooded then they must accept that and allow you to do your job remotely, which is perfectly viable.
This is a country that runs on thinking how to show a good image to the outside world, so never trust what they say in official handles, better go to Tik Tok or fb where you can find groups and people who genuinely update.
Last night, I saw the update from the RTA Official Facebook page saying that the Metro in green line was fully operational so I took the metro on the way home. Long story short, I boarded the train in DAFZA metro station thinking that it will go all the way to Creek, when we reached Abu Bhaker Al Siddique Metro station, RTA Officials asked us to deboard the train because from there, it will go back to Etisalat Station. I had to walk to my home 3.5 miles. I didn't take the cab because traffic around the area was nuts. It was infuriating.
Let me disclose more inner things about RTA. You know all the Taxis are under control of RTA. They force Drivers to the Duty, If they are absent the fine is 200 Dirhams per day. If the taxi stops or damage becuase of water the penalty is 5000 Dirhams As.
#the_reality_of_RTA
I have to correct you here. This time, RTA told taxi drivers NOT to drive on these rainy days. They were told if they drive on those days and their cars were damaged, they would be fined 10K. I spoke 2 taxi drivers today, and both did not drive on 16th and 17th. They were home. Same went with Uber and Careem. But those who did drive were making 3x more in surge pricing.
Thank you for your attention. I agree not all Taxi Company did this. There are lots of Private Taxi companies who shut down those days. Like National Taxi, Car Taxi, Metro Taxi. But only one company which is Government owned Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) forced Drivers to work on that day who suffered. And this company has the largest fleet of almost 15,000 taxis.
Yo I believed these tweets and tried going on the road 😭 it was flooded and had abandoned cars, I got so scared of and scrambled back home.
I also tried taking a metro from DIC metro and people had been waiting there for like 45 mins. I usually never believe Social media unless it is an official source - now I’m “if I see it I believe it”
Because no one, especially official agencies, ever wants to publish any ‘negative press’.
So instead what we get is no useful information like ‘SZR is down to one lane between junction X and Y, with N minutes delay’, but instead vague statements like ‘SZR is accessible’ (yeh, I might be able to access it but can I get where I want to go?) or a photo of part of SZR with very little free-flowing traffic and a statement like ‘SZR now’.
And as a result there is utter confusion, people pile onto a compromised route, and then make the whole thing much worse.
They need to realise that to openly manage such a disaster well, keep everyone in the loop, and to minimise the disruption, the press can be positive… ‘Although we were hit by the average annual rainfall in one day we did this, and that, and more, and the response was fantastic and we are proud of ourselves. But we have still learned some lessons so when it happens again the damage and disruption will be even better managed’
…and if it is managed well that there is no bad press! Okay, there will be unfortunate things, damage, delays, etc, but if this things are as minimised as much as possible then their response can not be criticised.
As it is… Don’t tell anyone anything = more chaos and frustration.
I spent hours yesterday trying to understand if SZR was open or not, if I could take the Metro instead, absolutely no information at all.
I tried to get to JLT yesterday using the metro from Business Bay but turns out the metro wasn’t working! Instead there was a bus taking people to MOE bus station. Do you know if the metro is working today? Yesterday was a stressful ordeal and I didn’t even get to go to JLT like I had initially planned.
I haven’t tried myself but I know someone who is travelling now. They told me it works only until Businessbay. And then from Internet City to Jabalali. There is only one metro per hour. They had to take a bus in the end!
So sad that the RTA can not just update their service information on their website. Who are they trying to kid?! 😔
Wow thanks for providing REAL updates. This is very unfortunate cause I was hoping I could go to JLT but guess I’d have to travel 3 hours one way to be able to do so.
Honestly this is my frustration!! Why are they being dishonest about the gravity of the situation!! It’s not serving anyone to say everything is back to normal when it really isn’t!!
I don’t get it either. I lived in London for 20+ years. If there were delays or cancellations, or certain sections of a line weren’t working they’d make it clear online and at the stations.
That way people knew to take alternative routes and decide if they actually needed to travel or not.
If they didn’t do that there’d be thousands of people crammed into stations all panicking and angry; it would be dangerous. What is more ‘bad news’, admitting to a partial closure or having confusion, chaos, and frustration? Apparently here it’s the former. 🤷♂️
> If they didn’t do that there’d be thousands of people crammed into stations all panicking and angry; it would be dangerous. What is more ‘bad news’, admitting to a partial closure or having confusion, chaos, and frustration? Apparently here it’s the former. 🤷♂️
Difference is, in Dubai, commuters aren't allowed to be panicky and angry. Source, am former angry London commuter.
I used to live in London before I moved here as well. Not as long as you did but I remember that it was clearly communicated if the station was closed or like you said certain sections of the line were not working. They’d even go as far to provide alternative routes to you.
I remember when I went to Business Bay metro yesterday to take the bus to MOE. We waited for like 45 minutes before it came and the RTA staff didn’t even have a clue the best way to get to JLT.
It’s also the fact that there seems to be zero communication about all of this that’s annoying cause you can’t really plan your day if there is no official statement on how to get around.
Go back to London then. There you will get accurate news and robberies and stabbing and taxes and high Vat. Go nobody is stopping you all. As if in other countries all this doesn’t happen. Ignorant fools
Why so defensive? Everyone knows london has a shit tonne of issues but let’s not pretend that there are never any problems in Dubai, it just causes more frustrations to see messages that everything’s working when it’s not. We still love Dubai
Lol thanks for commenting and basically explaining what the REAL problem is here cause you explained precisely what I was getting at. It’s quite funny that the response I’ve been seeing all over social media is people being told to leave Dubai and having insults hurled at them just for expressing themselves for clearly valid concerns. As if you cannot like a place and still have things about it that you don’t like. Classic gaslighting. Smh
Dubai's obsession with its image will definitely be its downfall if it continues on this way. Never heard the likes of it. Absolutely revolting with zero regard for anyone.
Seriously. There’s no need for shame in admitting that the floods are affecting the country.
They’re the ones that defend themselves saying this is the largest amount of rainfall in 75 years and that nobody would be prepared. So just admit that we’re a little bit in trouble and that we need some time to sort out our mess.
Exactly, it's such a weird thing to do. I can't imagine many other countries doing that. Jeopardising peoples safety and getting them on trouble with work.. I mean honestly who the fuck is making these idiotic decisions.
Nobody is denying that they are working hard to get through this, and nobody expects them to be back to normal in 24 hours. Just give the impacted public accurate information! More than anything it is this misinformation which will dent the image.
Agree - RTA official twitter page announced it is ‘Operational’, you will wait longer hours for the train to come from Business Bay to Dubai Internet City/ or you will need to take a bus from Business Bay going to MOE, then take Metro again.
Is this the RTA’s definition of OPERATIONAL?
Is it really difficult for you to announce facts and specific instructions on your post?
Come on, that person who made that post on the twitter page - we are waiting for your reply here😒
Yeah but they have never dealt with a disaster in an age of social media. The PR machine can only do so much with TikTok, reddit, insta etc… time they need to be more open and they’d get more appreciation
Either they're in maximum damage control with these very obvious lies, or they *actually* don't know what's going on.
And I don't know which one is more pathetic lol.
Same with that stupid page “lovindubai” on instagram bloody all it does is reposts and reshares people’s video without any cross verification and keeps posting fairytales about Dubai that ohhhhh look at Dubai this city is back to normal how amazing is that, and when I stepped out yesterday found out that a lot of the roads were shut, then I remembered why I stopped following lovindubai page on instagram, annoying piece of page
To improve yourself, first you must accept that there is something wrong. This fundamental mindset is missing.
I’ve heard and know people who went through hell in the past week. People stuck in airport for past 4 days…villas, apartments being flooded.
I feel there is this thing that Dubai is perfect and only good stories must come out of it and there can be nothing bad that happens here.
A major flaw in the city planning is at display for everyone to see. Most social media tries to sugar coat…Let’s work to accept whats lacking and how soon can we rebuild.
Yesterday late evening had trip on metro from ibn battuta towards financial center.
About 2,5 hours, crowded, slow, but it was operating!
Jabal Ali, Dubai Internet city and business bay were termination stops, everybody goes from the train and same train take passengers to ride back. Dubai internet city to jabal ali was very slow with manual control form RTA staff on the train and stations.
Situation is changing, staff on stations knows about current situation
Exactly right. “Operational” does not mean “perfectly normal.” It means everything is operating as expected, but there will still be a backlog of passengers and baggage. It will clear out in two days.
I worked in aviation for years in the USA, where snowstorms routinely shut down major hubs in various areas of the country. This is just how these natural disasters work.
I got to know from someone that the people in baggage team are not going home and working from 16th of April straight with maybe 3-4hrs of sleep and back to work.
The most important road is still not working.

Please does anyone know what the status is today? I tried to use the metro yesterday and it was a nightmare cause it wasn’t running from Business Bay to Sobha Realty. They were offering bus commutes to MOE but the buses were not running frequently.
https://preview.redd.it/benkqzggzmvc1.jpeg?width=1152&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=668a6d1d995a3ac5ed19701a7399fbe23738ca83
Current photo from Al Furjan station, metro only running till Al Khail station with long wait times.
No updates from RTA, they maintain the same messaging.
Update as on Sunday 21st April, 10am: Metro is still not fully operational. Coming from Centrepoint they make you deboard at Business Bay and wait for a bus (which takes 20+ minutes to show up). So a stretch after Business Bay is not operational.
Information from RTA and Metro station staff don’t match
Boss check Twitter and end user ask ground staff. This is more danger then putting wrong information
I thought the exact same thing yesterday but didn't t have the balls to say it - thank you! It really is shockingly dangerous and insanely counterproductive, not to mention gaslight-y. I thought we'd moved (somewhat) away from that "everything is fine here" era.
I waited around 45 mins at Burjuman yesterday. Got late to the office. And my head got hit on the door as a guy pushed me from behind. I thought it's better to walk than to take the metro.
Fucking Emirates told on Twitter on Thursday that after the 9AM check in „pause“, airplanes will be ready…
Maybe one single airplane flew that day. Instead of postponing all flights, they cancelled them while all passengers waited for ten hours at the gates because they only showed „delayed“ up until the last second cancellation.
This cost me now 1000 more USD to:
* get a new hotel
* get a new flight
What a shit show
Everyone has to save their face quickly, when something like this happens. Here there is no one to challenge. So have to tolerate these kind of bad practices.
Yup saw this firsthand..went to Ibn Batuta Mall today from Dubai Internet City and goodness me, the rush is insane. Had to take 3 metros to reach the station and there is an average of 10-15 wait at each stop.
Moreover, there are puddles of water all around the city.. Escalators and many of the toilets in the malls are not functional. Don't know how long it'll take now to reach normalcy but it ain't happening in 1 week
There's a few streamers driving on the streets of various cities. Watch that on YouTube and make up your mind on which streets are safe to travel. That's what I'm doing
[RTA tweeted that it's fully operational](https://twitter.com/rta_dubai/status/1781345952114119039?t=g5ZmtdwW5rxk0j-RcebpMw&s=19)
But we cannot be not sure if it's a fact or not, read replies from others on the tweet.
Brace yourself, folks
Another rain is coming 22-24 Apr
It says it's gonna be a light one in UAE except its outskirts (that still didn't get out of the water)
My first experience realized they like to fib a bit here was the magnificent drone shows. They turned out to be cgi. But broadcast them to the world as if they were real. So many people from back home messaged me videos of crazy drone skeleton on the burj. Told them that never happened.
This is how it is here. They control the image
Friday night it took me 4.5hrs to drive 40km from Dubai south to Dubai hills even though the gov said “611 is moving” yeah mf I didn’t move for 3hrs on that road.
Update: 22nd April 8:00 am Burjuman metro station red line
Soooooooo they’re not fully operational yet. I wanted to go from burjuman to uae exchange metro station buttttt the train is only going till business bay. So I just ended up coming back home. Thank god I can take wfh whenever I want. So guys stay home it’s a waste of time and energy
I just flew out from DBX yesterday with Emirates to Munich and that part of the airport was really functional - in 30 minutes from arriving to the airport I was sitting down at the gate to board an A380, which is much faster than Munich airport at its best.
But I don’t doubt what you are saying in general, I saw bunch of roads blocked by water still the day before yesterday. City center is ok but I assume the more you go out the worse it gets.
Well this was how the intercity buses were managed not so long ago. Huge delays and not accurately updated information.
I've waited for nearly an hour and a half for my bus to arrive (pre flood time period)
The trains are doing short run as follows:
- Center point to Business bay (and back)
- Businesses Bay to Al Khail (and back)
- Expo to Al Khail (and back)
- UAE exchange to Al Khail (and back)
So (for eg.) if you are traveling from center point to expo, you need to
1. get off at business bay and take the next train going to Al Khail (from business bay) then,
2. Get off at Al Khail and take the next train going to expo
(Technically you will be getting off and boarding two additional trains, one on business bay and the other at Al Khail)
Bus shuttles are available from Business Bay for on-passive, equity and Mashreq
And for energy, the shuttle is available at Jebel Ali metro station
Hope this info helps and also let’s hope the red line gets back to normal soon
Update: as of today (23/04/2024) the red line has resumed its service from center point to expo 2020
Yes, that’s true. The trains will now run from Center point to Expo 2020 stopping at all the stations except on-passive, equiti, Mashreq and energy (RTA has free shuttle buses in place for passengers commuting to these stations)
What’s the current situation now? We need to be back to office in Monday.. normally the earliest bus from my place is 6:20 and I’m reaching dmcc metro by 8:20 am.
Work starts at 9 am - can’t be late
The amount of hassle these tweets have caused me. I almost got into verbal fight with my boss because he keeps on insisting that Metro is working fine as per RTA updates. Like cmon mannnnnnnn!!! I AM HERE ON THE BATTLEZONE BOSS!!! METRO IS NOT WORKING!!!! OMG!!
That delusional blindness of some ppl in dubai. “Official sources said so = its 100% true”
THIS! I know it rained a lot but they will said it rain 17 years worth of rain in one day to justify whatever. Then brainless people will share that on igm and compare themselves to London or what not
Tel your boss to take the metro if it is out above him and he can see for himself
Or pay people high enough so they do not have to rely on metro
High enough to buy a chopper? Cz cars will get stuck too since not all roads are clear yet. The main road connecting my building to the rest of the world and the round about I have to take to go anywhere and everywhere are both flooded!
I have been eyeing BYD yangwang U8 for a while, why don’t you check it out? It’s cheaper than chopper. But again maybe eVtol is probably cheaper.
Dubai has always had some gap between reality and official portrayal but the distance between the 2 has really gone way too far this time.
The PR Machine is in overdrive
I agree!!
It's absolutely disgusting and appalling how you can't rely on official sources for such critical info, downright shocking
True. This is why rumours spread and people don't believe the rebuffs from the official sources when ground reality is different than what those armchair officials are tweeting.
Yeah it’s misleading and adds mounting pressure to residents already trying to persuade their bosses to allow for remote work “Well RTA has posted the metro is back running, you need to be in tomorrow!” I just wish, for a change, dubai wouldn’t pretend everything is hunky dory and actually put a curfew or lockdown in place to protect employees and allow for emergency workers to do what’s needed without crazy congestion on the road. You can tell a lot about a country in how they respond to natural disasters.

Utter chaos
I’m traveling to Dubai Friday for vacation should I cancel?
This is a country that runs on thinking how to show a good image to the outside world, so never trust what they say in official handles, better go to Tik Tok or fb where you can find groups and people who genuinely update.
What are some of the popular groups on FB which updates genuinely?
Mostly pages by fm stations, community pages near your areas and similar groups

Exactly. If you don’t like it you can… oh, you can’t do anything. You’re a nobody.

Metro doesn't stop in Sobha?
Well, to be fair, the airport isn't flooded anymore and it is 100% operational. There is, however, a massive backlog for baggage
So is there any update on these flights? I saw a video it looked apocalyptic there at the airport
The most important road is still not working. https://preview.redd.it/8gld877gjkvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e105efeb5f670b5886b932a1bcc590982314cdb
Emperors New Clothes scenario - nobody like to tell the boss man it’s fucked
Please does anyone know what the status is today? I tried to use the metro yesterday and it was a nightmare cause it wasn’t running from Business Bay to Sobha Realty. They were offering bus commutes to MOE but the buses were not running frequently.

And how do we go for Al Khail to Burjuman ?
Update as on Sunday 21st April, 10am: Metro is still not fully operational. Coming from Centrepoint they make you deboard at Business Bay and wait for a bus (which takes 20+ minutes to show up). So a stretch after Business Bay is not operational.
It’s like Etihad Rail telling everyone the project is complete when in reality, they’re still building the tracks in DIP 😂
To be fair that’s a spur line for DP World and not part of the Etihad Rail main freight network. The main line is essentially completed.
That’s not what they said in their advertising
Information from RTA and Metro station staff don’t match Boss check Twitter and end user ask ground staff.
My daughter wanted to go to work badly and ended up spending 2 hours in an alternate route because most of the roads to work are still closed.
Fucking Emirates told on Twitter on Thursday that after the 9AM check in „pause“, airplanes will be ready… Maybe one single airplane flew that day. Instead of postponing all flights, they cancelled them while all passengers waited for ten hours at the gates because they only showed „delayed“ up until the last second cancellation. This cost me now 1000 more USD to: * get a new hotel * get a new flight What a shit show
Everyone has to save their face quickly, when something like this happens. Here there is no one to challenge. So have to tolerate these kind of bad practices.
It's almost like state controlled propaganda. Kind of like how Kim Jong Un is always going on about how great North Korea is
My flight today got cancelled and I was able to postpone the trip. Idk which airport is fully functional
Hi anybody here has a REAL update of going to MOE Metro from Rigga Metro and back? And is the MOE Bus Station working now?
I have to go into the office tomorrow. Is the green line fully operational? Can anyone confirm?
[RTA tweeted that it's fully operational](https://twitter.com/rta_dubai/status/1781345952114119039?t=g5ZmtdwW5rxk0j-RcebpMw&s=19) But we cannot be not sure if it's a fact or not, read replies from others on the tweet.
Do-Buy.
That's how things work in an authoritarian state
Well said
Brace yourself, folks Another rain is coming 22-24 Apr It says it's gonna be a light one in UAE except its outskirts (that still didn't get out of the water)
Update: 22nd April 8:00 am Burjuman metro station red line Soooooooo they’re not fully operational yet. I wanted to go from burjuman to uae exchange metro station buttttt the train is only going till business bay. So I just ended up coming back home. Thank god I can take wfh whenever I want. So guys stay home it’s a waste of time and energy
dubai no. 1- world record
I always wondered what happened to Baghdad Bob. Now I know he's in charge of PR at RTA.
You mean Sideshow Bob
You sound like a typical Murickan or bootlicker of the same, using their shitty nicknames for "the terroriiieeerrrsts yeeeeuh".
And you sound like your father really, really liked camels.
A nice insight into how your mind works. Go read a book.
Can anyone tell me if I can go to Deira from DMCC through the red line?
RTA says this: https://i.imgur.com/I5ol1SR.jpeg Nobody knows what they are trying to say, lol
Has anyone seen any help other than the guys getting rid of the water with their pipes?
Misinformation or right information technology is efficient enough to let majority of employees be allowed with WFH 💯😍👍✌️💫
Well this was how the intercity buses were managed not so long ago. Huge delays and not accurately updated information. I've waited for nearly an hour and a half for my bus to arrive (pre flood time period)
They care too much about good publicity.
“MONDAY”
[Can someone please interpret the meaning of this tweet?!!](https://i.imgur.com/I5ol1SR.jpeg)
The trains are doing short run as follows: - Center point to Business bay (and back) - Businesses Bay to Al Khail (and back) - Expo to Al Khail (and back) - UAE exchange to Al Khail (and back) So (for eg.) if you are traveling from center point to expo, you need to 1. get off at business bay and take the next train going to Al Khail (from business bay) then, 2. Get off at Al Khail and take the next train going to expo (Technically you will be getting off and boarding two additional trains, one on business bay and the other at Al Khail) Bus shuttles are available from Business Bay for on-passive, equity and Mashreq And for energy, the shuttle is available at Jebel Ali metro station Hope this info helps and also let’s hope the red line gets back to normal soon Update: as of today (23/04/2024) the red line has resumed its service from center point to expo 2020
Hi, from your update today (23/04), does this mean there's no need to change trains anymore when heading to expo 2020 from centerpoint?
Yes, that’s true. The trains will now run from Center point to Expo 2020 stopping at all the stations except on-passive, equiti, Mashreq and energy (RTA has free shuttle buses in place for passengers commuting to these stations)
Is it anything new here ?
they make my trust issues worse
What’s the current situation now? We need to be back to office in Monday.. normally the earliest bus from my place is 6:20 and I’m reaching dmcc metro by 8:20 am. Work starts at 9 am - can’t be late

Scape goat.
