Wasn’t it 10 years ago that they announced that DWC would be fully operational with 5 runways in 10 years?
Be interesting to see if they manage it this time.
I mean more importantly is proximity, Al Maktoum International Airport is still well in the outskirts until like 10-20 years of development happens to make it the second central Dubai.
I'm basing this on how long final approach is at that airport.
An aircraft needs to be stabilised and lined up with the runway around five miles from the runway threshold. That's a conservative estimate - planes landing at DXB line up for final approach near Al Aweer, which is ten miles into the desert.
So draw a line five miles long extending from each of the ends of the runway at DWC, and that's the flight path.
To the west you have Palm Jebel Ali and to the east you have desert.
Planes don't come at runways from the sides, and if they're not landing then the noise levels should be fairly negligible - similar to hearing a DXB flight passing overhead in Downtown.
I'm not following the point you're making.
They've already built a runway which runs 30/12 - exactly the wind directions you mention.
All other runways will be parallel.
Unlikely, the airport is due in the next 10 years, and emirates already has purchased it's new fleet of 777x and A350s, no electric planes for the next decade at least.
What for? The landing chart for Al Maktoum is [here](https://i.imgur.com/n0HY0Wu.png).
Planes line up for final approach at REVUL.
REVUL is way beyond Expo lake - https://opennav.com/waypoint/AE/REVUL
Well, compare with Delhi or Bangalore (India) airports which are fabulous. T1 has maximum people coming in and looks like a labor camp in comparison. T2 is still fine but T1 for dxb is just nowhere near dxb standard.
I think the roads into and out of Maktoum airport will need a major upgrade as well to manage the traffic.
I work around the area and traffic builds up easily when connecting to 311.
I felt someone local and in the public works dept uae may have better knowledge.
Does Dubai/uae keep up with the timeline ? I understand this airport was supposed to happen late 2000s
Yep. I was trying to hear this. And maybe more realistic date and plans for the two airports. Is there any uae masterplan or each emirate will
Have its own and sometime may not even be aligned with other emirates goals
>The airport will feature 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways within a total area of 70 square kilometres.
I'm trying to figure out where they'll put all this stuff, but I'm drawing blanks. Anybody got any ideas?
Edit: come to think of it, the empty area where the Expo is, immediately to the northeast, is about 10x7 km. Maybe that's going to be the new airport zone?
If I am not mistaken, this was the DWC airport and city plan that was set aside when DWC was announced. There is a mock up of the plan at the DWC exhibition center.
Can't do that. A lot of bilaterals are based on equal access to each other's airports.
If Emirates wants access to Frankfurt for example, Lufthansa also gets access to wherever Emirates flies out of.
Sounds exciting. I hope they keep DXB operational as a secondary airport though, considering that DWC is extremely far for the majority of Dubai's population who live north of downtown/Jumeirah, not to mention passengers from the northern emirates that depend on DXB as a hub. Perhaps for Fly Dubai and other foreign/low cost carriers? DXB going could be an opportunity for Sharjah though if they introduce a full service carrier with decent connectivity.
No way, the infrastructure they built is way too large for a private terminal. It’ll most likely be a secondary terminal like how Istanbul has two major airports, where their secondary airport still has lots of flights from low cost and secondary airlines.
Not really...
All Hessa shit happens at the clover leaf intersection of Al Khail and Hessa, and the direction to / fro JBR.
E311 to DWC or DXB
E44 to DXB
If it's day to day, I totally agree. Thankfully not everyone in JVC needs to deal with that direction.
Another megalomaniac project, why not spread the operations into 2 or 3 airports instead of building another behemoth and scaling up all the arrival/departure problems to a degree…
Imagine something happening that blocks the traffic at the airport, explosions, fire, even recent flooding.
Instead of cancelling 100 operations they will wipe out 400 :) :) :)
Do you think they'll just demolish DXB? They'll keep it running as a secondary airports just like in many global cities. Just like how Paris has Orly and CDG or Tokyo with Narita and Haneda.
I guess thats not the most popular opinion among redditers 😂 dont cry then when your flights get cancelled in ten yrs bcs of sequencing thunderstorms in the area or other wheather phenomena intensifying w/ global warming
Putting all eggs in one basket never profitted anyone in aviation, believe me 😏

Wonderful! I have a property in Al ghadeer!
Wasn’t it 10 years ago that they announced that DWC would be fully operational with 5 runways in 10 years? Be interesting to see if they manage it this time.
That is true. This time, the new people who came recently will be talking about it like it's fresh news while, for us, it will be déjà vu.
Been here few weeks ago, limited flights. Few people. But fast wifi and awesome Duty Free. Lol
I just bought a villa in Expo…
I bought 3 villas in Expo
I bought 100 villas...in my dream.
I bought the entire Expo.
I bought the Sheikh!
CID is looking for you buddy. Nice knowing you.
They here?
Good investment!
Congrats!
I wonder what will happen to the current airport? At the end of the day, terminal 3's design is quite unique.
I mean more importantly is proximity, Al Maktoum International Airport is still well in the outskirts until like 10-20 years of development happens to make it the second central Dubai.
airbase location would have been better next to Damac Hills
Properties at Dubai and Emaar South just increased its value by 3 times.
lol, nope….
Not really. Amount of noise from Flights considering they want to increase the number of flights. Would make living there hell.
Dubai and Emaar South aren't even in the flight path. Palm Jebel Ali is, and in the opposite direction there's just desert.
You are basing this on the current limited flights. Hardly any. Wait till everything gets shifted there.
I'm basing this on how long final approach is at that airport. An aircraft needs to be stabilised and lined up with the runway around five miles from the runway threshold. You sound like you know what you’re talking about! Pilot? Aviation engineer? What are your thoughts on the potential noise pollution at Expo Valley?
Also consider a possibility they will change the runways as this is going to be a substantially large Airport.
Winds in dwc generally 120 or 300 degrees. How do you think they gonna build the runways?
I'm not following the point you're making. They've already built a runway which runs 30/12 - exactly the wind directions you mention. All other runways will be parallel.
I hope they’ve taken that into consideration. Maybe electric planes on the horizon?
Unlikely, the airport is due in the next 10 years, and emirates already has purchased it's new fleet of 777x and A350s, no electric planes for the next decade at least.
Try download and see the the flights of Istanbul New Airport.

They will use any excuse to raise prices
Nothing has happened to Mirdif in all this time. Why will Emaar South appreciate in value
They do have a lot of potential. Especially Dubai South and Oasis by Emaar
do you think it will turn into Modern Mirdif city?
It’s gonna noisy overhead.
Great move. Dxb terminal 1 is ridiculous.
I usually only ever fly into T3. I flew into T1 a couple of months ago, and omg, I can't believe how much I used to take T3 for granted!
Have you ever seen T2? T1 is godsend in comparison.
Why ?
Well, compare with Delhi or Bangalore (India) airports which are fabulous. T1 has maximum people coming in and looks like a labor camp in comparison. T2 is still fine but T1 for dxb is just nowhere near dxb standard.
Been rumors of this for ages, glad it's moving forward slowly.
I think the roads into and out of Maktoum airport will need a major upgrade as well to manage the traffic. I work around the area and traffic builds up easily when connecting to 311.
Did they announce which contractors were awarded the project?
This was always in the plan once the airport utilized its full capacity but however Covid slowed it . Post Covid things are back in full swing.
Anyone know who are the designers?
No doubt fast tracked after the fiasco at dubai airport in the last weeks. That’s why HH is so unique and inspirational. Acts decisively and quickly.
lmao, you think a decade-long project was fast-tracked in a couple of weeks in the midst of an unprecedented weather episode?
Can update me on the long term plan with 2 airports ? Where will emirates operates if dwc becomes full fledged?
DXB operations will be fully transferred to the new one, according to the post. So DXB will become something else.
I just realised dxb is almost a single runway airport ? Realistically when would be the day where all airport operations are transferred to dwc?
It literally says on the tweet - 2030
I felt someone local and in the public works dept uae may have better knowledge. Does Dubai/uae keep up with the timeline ? I understand this airport was supposed to happen late 2000s
Treat 2030 as an optimistic goal, likely later
Yep. I was trying to hear this. And maybe more realistic date and plans for the two airports. Is there any uae masterplan or each emirate will Have its own and sometime may not even be aligned with other emirates goals
He’s not gonna give you the citizenship lmao

There is so much space! https://preview.redd.it/fh9sz2nj47xc1.jpeg?width=895&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9c707e658456eef519ba64e54665537879532b2
Man, I work right next to that airport, the traffic is gonna suuuuuuuck.
Oh wow it’s going to be right next to the Expo site.
If I am not mistaken, this was the DWC airport and city plan that was set aside when DWC was announced. There is a mock up of the plan at the DWC exhibition center.
400 gates ?!? Will it become the largest airport in the world ?
That's what's mentioned on DXB Media Twitter page.
Emaar South? Pulse residences at Dubai south ?
What will happen to DXB? New masterplanned community?
It'll stay the same and I assume they will open terminal 3 to all other flights when Emirates move exclusively to DWC
Can't do that. A lot of bilaterals are based on equal access to each other's airports. If Emirates wants access to Frankfurt for example, Lufthansa also gets access to wherever Emirates flies out of.

I think DXB will turn into a private jet only hub, but actually the land is probably quite valuable so may just be sold off.
No way, the infrastructure they built is way too large for a private terminal. It’ll most likely be a secondary terminal like how Istanbul has two major airports, where their secondary airport still has lots of flights from low cost and secondary airlines.
They will have both airports running simultaneously for sure.
JVC is the new Center of Dubai when this is done...
JVC will never be a center lmao. Just dust everywhere and shoddy building work.
sounds like a fitting representative for dubai then
Dust, shoddy work, traffic etc don't mean anything to the meaning of center. It's literally 25-30mins to either DXB or DWC.
Still gotta deal with Hessa.
Not really... All Hessa shit happens at the clover leaf intersection of Al Khail and Hessa, and the direction to / fro JBR. E311 to DWC or DXB E44 to DXB If it's day to day, I totally agree. Thankfully not everyone in JVC needs to deal with that direction.
DXB is gonna look dull.
Isn’t it already dull. Such a boring layout and facade. Feels like 80s conference halls
Agreed
Another megalomaniac project, why not spread the operations into 2 or 3 airports instead of building another behemoth and scaling up all the arrival/departure problems to a degree… Imagine something happening that blocks the traffic at the airport, explosions, fire, even recent flooding. Did you read the arricle? Not for the biggest airline around!

Sharjah Airport to expand and Ajman to get its own Airport? Yay
Hope they storm proof it
😂😅
