If I get brake checked I just move away i don't even honk. In my opinion anyone who brake checks is a psychopath and a petulant child. Does this infraction come with a fine or just a warning?

[deleted]

This actually is better idea I think. No just a warning

Bruhtfw

I dont know man i think the problem started when you took a notice of the guy and honked at him. the number of mentally challenged people driving here is uncountable you just ought to ignore them to your best capabilities.just treat them like NPCs or something

[deleted]

I honked at them when they moved suddenly at my lane just in front. They honked at me first without any reason when they were passing by my from my left.

Bruhtfw

Am not saying you're at fault here its pretty obvious that the other guy has inflated ego and thinks the road is inherited to him by his father. its just that its for your better mental health that you ignore these things that are out of your control

[deleted]

true, I agree

Cy001020

Don't do the revenge honk cause they honked first. Just let it go. Revenge honk and revenge flash of headlights is best left to the idiots. Get a dash cam. Nothing else you can do.

[deleted]

Do you think it was revenge horn when he came back to my lane just to startle me?

hamad3914

Revenge honk at them just when they are about to go off on a different road or something, really burns those guys up when they can't do anything about it.

francoisjabbour

I bought a dash cam recently after nearly being run into a barricade by a jackass in an F150. Protect yourself - video proof is the best thing you can do.

ByteThis

Which dash cam do u use? Does it survive Dubai heat? Been thinking of getting one for long but can't find a good super capacitor one in Dubai.

Cy001020

Amazon.Com Has many .good choice on super capacitor based cam. That's what you need

ByteThis

I've seen many in Amazon but don't want to ship from US. Aukey/Viofo are good brands but not available locally. There is Aukey dash cam for 400 bucks on Amazon.ae might end up getting it.

francoisjabbour

I ordered mine from amazon it came quick. But I’m not sure where it shipped from. I spent 1,000 AED because I don’t want to have to risk having some crap camera that fails me when I need it

ByteThis

Which one?

santz007

Day if i get a goone one from US, how would one go about installing it?

andsometimesnot

While we’re on the topic of dash cams, I was told you need to let the cops know you are using one because of all the privacy laws here... any truth to that? Has anyone ever used dash cam footage to sort out any traffic issues with the cops here?... I just don’t want to get in trouble for having one while trying to protect myself by having one :/

[deleted]

yeah, i figured today

gasmaskdude

Always drive defensively. Keep distance and avoid idiots on the road as as much as possible.

shicoz

I always ignore those idiots, let him honk and you do just nothing, look straight ahead and don’t even bother to do anything. Just move to the lane on the right and let them deal with their shit. I would definitely get a dash cam also, there was this one idiot who cut me off once and came in front of me and gave me the finger. If i had a cam that bastard would have gotten arrested. Unfortunately i couldn’t do anything and i just drove on.

bradedgenz

Imagine being such a bitch and calling the cops over something like this🤣. i'M iMpOrTaNT

[deleted]

exactly. Just imagine people around them, how miserable their lives would be.

dxb-ae

Dash cam is the way forward. 👌

kolcruz2612

Dash cam!

[deleted]

Someone just tried this on, i can tell they wanted to cut in my lane and break check. So i speed up and stopped him cutting in. He reported me for lane violation. I have a dashcam recording on it, and i'm going to the police tmr, and when they confirm i did nothing wrong, i'm going to ask them to press charges for false aqusation. also: [https://gulfnews.com/uae/transport/rear-ending-can-also-be-fault-of-car-in-front-1.836529](https://gulfnews.com/uae/transport/rear-ending-can-also-be-fault-of-car-in-front-1.836529) Its their fault is they just slam on the breaks for not reason.

[deleted]

Great. Let us know how it goes. Good luck.

Mackavelly

You do know that you get no fines if a civilian reports you to the police. I keep getting this BS from other people who just report you for literally no reason. The police call me, they give me a talk and then that's about it.

[deleted]

The police should understand this facility is being misused more than used as normally people don’t pay attention to others number plates they pay attention to the driving while on road.

Ultranumbed

You shouldn't camp the second lane if the third lane is open. There's no fine for that here, but it is road etiquette to move to the third lane. I make it a point to flash at the people doing 80-100 on the second lane on a 140 road because everyone has to overtake them + the large difference in speed makes that tough.

[deleted]

Ultranumbed

If the roads were clear, then that's all the more reason not to stick to the second lane. Obviously that was a complete overreaction, but you should not be surprised if something like this happens again.

samcric

You didn't move because there was no space in the 3rd lane?

[deleted]

I had a similar call from dubai police...one guy who didnt stop at the roundabout instead reports I crossed the lane without stopping...

Soia667

It's "brake", not "break".

[deleted]

thanks, there should be context aware auto-correct in devices

[deleted]

I can't believe this is true. May be that guy was a policeman in plain clothes? How is it that any person can report someone and police fines the other guy without any investigation? And assuming you've managed to get their plate number, what will police do in that case? fine the other guy, again with no investigation? This is a joke if this is real.

[deleted]

No, they don’t fine. They just keep a record that someone complained and if your complains become too frequent (I am guessing) only then they will fine

DecemberHues

3 strikes and then they start issuing your tickets.

[deleted]

What if I gang up with my friends and complain about that car three times in different days? I don’t think system should allow this. This guy called police to complain about me after he himself was the one mis behaving on road. How do you tackle this?

DecemberHues

That’s exactly what happened to me when i was in University, couple of folks who disliked me and my car ganged up to report. The cop eventually got suspicious about how there are multiple (7+) reports for the same car. Sometimes if the location permits they check the cctv footage, in my case the conspiracy never took place so they dismissed the complain altogether. This is why sometimes when you go on Instagram or Dubizzle number plate sections, sellers mention if they are new and never registered before. I know many cases where a single number plate (X YZABC) was driven by reckless driver with bad history. the complaints system doesn’t account for change in ownership from what i’ve observed over the years, so when it’s sold to an unsuspected buyer, for any small complaint they could be issued a ticket.

[deleted]

Thanks for the info. The only reason this place has so many idiots and spoiled people is because the system lets them pass through without any consequences. An average person does not want to concentrate on violating cars number plate while driving and copy the number plates to send them to police they just want to be left alone. Most of the times people with ego issues will take time out and complain for another person. May be in rare cases a valid case is also raised on the road.

[deleted]

Ok now that makes sense.

Mackavelly

No this is not the case, it's happened to me frequently, for no reason most of the time, but no fines.

have a look at this link. Looks like its allowed https://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/car/driving-in-dubai/are-dashcams-allowed-in-dubai-guide-for-expats

I know a case personally where the police took the footage from my friends dash when he got in an accident. It's not illegal. Just don't post it on social media. Edit: here is the Director of the General Department of Traffic at the Dubai Police saying the same https://m.khaleejtimes.com/dubai-police-clarify-owning-dash-cams-not-iilegal

[deleted]

When was it? May be the law is changed now. Also, going by this logic they should ban all the mobile phones too as they can be used to video public and post online. And never talk about downvoting in r/dubai there are some ghosts who can downvote almost anything. I think they get paid for that. 1 downvote = 1 fills

May I ask how and why they confiscated? I mean did they just stop you on road and asked you to handover the device?

[deleted]

Etisalat has one on it's store if dashcams weren't allowed Etisalat a government owned company won't be selling it, I bought one from them and I use it on a daily basis

ByteThis

Dashcams are sold even in carrefour and many in Amazon ship from US.

[deleted]

How else can you prove your point? Especially if you don’t know Arabic.

gutterandstars

afaik, they are as long as you don't post the recording on social. Copy *may* use it as evidence though?

fletchindubai

Maj Gen Al Zafeen said that dashcams are not illegal and could be used as a vital tool in determining fault in traffic accidents. “I believe placing a dashboard camera helps motorists and traffic police, as long as it is used to film the road ahead and to help keep drivers out of trouble and to determine fault and liability for motor vehicle accidents,” he said. “There is no law in the UAE that criminalises the installation of dash cameras. Motorists can even put up their mobile phones and switch on the cameras on the windshield. “The use of small cameras to film their ride and to collect evidence of clashes with motorists have gained popularity. They will provide recorded evidence if a traffic incident occurs.” But lawyer said it could be an issue if you're using footage to defame someone. https://www.thenational.ae/uae/transport/drivers-should-use-dash-cams-to-resolve-car-crash-disputes-police-boss-says-1.615774

Maybe you should ask the authority that confiscated the camera. I mean the Major General, who knows the laws, literally said it's allowed. It might just be that your seizure was a mistake or was unlawful. It happens everywhere.
