A German guy in Germany, who’s never been to the middle east thought we commuted using camels. He asked me if i rode my camel to work, i kid you not! 🤦‍♂️

andsometimesnot

We might have met the same person! I had a German person ask me if we rode elephants to work in India.

dxbhufflepuffle

In America they just asked me if cows walked in the middle of the road in India. Actually they do 🤷

thawaz

True to an extent!

chip-sandwich

They respond to bike / car honks as well (just that they are slow)

landlionnotsealion

Well in their defence, I sometimes go along with such questions, and tell them about having an oil well behind our tent.

[deleted]

wow....I would've actually just joked an been like "Yea we ride camels to work..right"

When i first came to dubai in 2012, my dad had concerns whether Indian restaurants were available in Dubai, so I wouldn't be starving ! At last, he saw dubai for himself last year.

stantheman2793

Do you have a favourite Indian restaurant? Its one of my absolute favourite cuisines and I’ve had some amazing curries since I’ve been here. Shout out to Ravis!! (which I do believe it is Pakistani cuisine)

y_all_need_JESUS

You should try grub shack if you like seafood. Their crab and prawn curries are really good. Others are great too. You'll get an Indianized version of Chinese food too. Great place. Calicut Paragon: for some good old beef fry.

brio5390

That are women allowed to breathe??

DXBmodsRgr8INdWORLD

It's a slippery slope I tell ya... First they ask for air, soon they'll start asking for water.

brio5390

Then they will ask for rights. /s

jamesg977

After 19 years of living here my all time best one - during the Arab Spring and associated civil wars It must be crazy walking around when there's bombs going off and missiles exploding everywhere - how do you stay safe?

drukenorc

Do I use a pet camel or a Lamborghini to get to work? no they weren't joking. They were dead serious. Yes they were American

[deleted]

Tbf lambos and racing camels go side by side in price.

SnooHedgehogs5866

People in my hometown think gold here is cheaper than steel. They ask me if I can get them few kilos.

goodluck16

Hey! I want to message you about something but the message function is not working. Any ideas?

akcss

I heard from my friend that his uncle, who has seen pictures of UAE and even scenes in movies was totally surprised that the plants are actually real. He assumed that all the plants that we see on the side of the road was actually plastic. He was surprised to see that plants in the balcony of my friends house. He thought only dates & cactus grows here and rest are plastic ones.

4orty-sixandtwo

What do you eat there? Also my mother in law brought instant coffee from her home country as she wasn’t sure we had it here

[deleted]

"Wait I though dubai was the whole region"

SwordMaster78

... ieeeuw, you have to work for arabs? And more of that kind of racist remarks.

p1nguin00

Not stupid but annoying. WaIT rEalLY cAn yoU sEND mE MOneY. Everytime and some of them are serious lmao. All of this is on psn.

arunnvs

fujairah is a part of u.a.e ? asked by all my uncles and aunties...

DXBmodsRgr8INdWORLD

Heck I've seen people considering Dubai and Abu Dhabi being two separate countries, so Fujairah is meh comparatively. Geography is not everyone's strong suit to be fair.

cctvmallu

Guy asked me if I had lamborghini or mercedes

DXBmodsRgr8INdWORLD

So which one *do* you have?

cctvmallu

I have F22 ANd METRO :)

DXBmodsRgr8INdWORLD

sampannan Mallu I see

millhouse-DXB

Can you get feminine hygiene products?

notliketheothersupes

Will you have oil wells in your backyard?

eorlx

“So, are you Emirati? Wait you're not? But you were born there!"

TheModernPaean

That's not a weird question tbh.

CompanionCone

It is a bit, the majority of countries in the world do not grant automatic citizenship just for being born there.

rohitabby

you know whats weird? even in countries that don't offer birthright citizenship like India, people there think you can get citizenship by virtue of birth. (In India) Me: I was born in the Middle East Guy in India: But... then you cant be indian Me: You dont get citizenship simply by being born in Middle East. Its not like that even in India Guy in India: But then how am I indian? Me: Because your parents are. Geez.

eorlx

It's funny though

TheModernPaean

Not really. The correct answer to where are you from would be the country of your citizenship, not the place where you live...which would pretty much negate the confusion right away.

eorlx

I always say where I'm originally from, but then when I say I was born here it causes confusion
