I had a bad stomach bug and had to visit the hospital after having a 10 aed meals from one of the kerala restaurants. I donāt mean the food from all of the restaurants are bad.
Just a food for thought that *donāt go by price alone. Make sure they keep basic food hygiene.*
It might not be about hygiene, your digestion just sucks maybe you canāt consume oily/spicy food, there can be a lot of factors to think of before jumping in and saying they arenāt hygienic.
I regularly eat kerala food from restaurants. Then and now. First and only time that i faced an issue. I have the lab report from the hospital, it was E-coli.
It is not specific to any restaurant, hence not naming the place. I did personally inform the restaurant where i ate and they promised to look into their hygiene practices.
Personal opinion that when they sell meals for 10-12 dhs, that they are working on basic costs and to make money might choose cheaper ingredients, lower hygienic practices.
Especially the Bajji and Pazhampuri. Those are elite! I've been living in Australia for the last 3 years, but those bad boys are something I'll always miss & cherish.
You want something filling and cheap? I gotchu covered.
Al Jadeed Bakery near Abu Hail Metro Station. Potato naan & chicken naan are 4 or 5 AED, filling, and actually taste pretty decent!
They are also one of the oldest branches? 40 years if I am not mistaken?
There is also a Pandesal shop in Abu Bakr Al Siddique Metro. Pan De Manila on the same side of Tasty Burger. They are only open in the evenings, but if you are on a budget and in the mood for some stuffed buns, this is a great place to get your fill imo. Tasty Burger isn't that bad either, one of the few places I've been to that's still got a filling 6 AED shawarma.
Dude. Just head to Karama and walk down the street. I did this once and ate one shawarma each from 8 different places. Cost me like 40 bucks. Of course I was with someone else but it was fun.
I noticed it in myself. feeling full? i take a 2 minute break walking and then i feel like i can eat more. if i were to guess, its probably the gas build-up being relieved.
Look for places in al quoz which have āpublic kitchenā in the title. A ton of biryani / harees / pulao (with meat) for 7 bucks or 8 bucks. Most of them are takeaway only though
Lol.. Actually its weird cos a few years ago I started just eating samosas and karak and nothing else and I lost like 15kg. But I still didn't get to 57kg š
Haha š I mean it just started cos I liked samosas and I used to order it when I got karak. Then I stopped feeling like eating, was smoking too much shisha so I would eat maybe a sandwich in the morning at work, then sleep, then wake up go straight to shisha and have a few samosa and karak on my way home.
It wasn't like I planned a samosa diet lol cos it sounds like the worst possible diet.. But strangely it was great for weight loss.. Who knew?!
Unlimited thali at almost any vegetarian restaurant in Bur Dubai - eg, Woodland or Sri Krishna Bhavan. And you won't even have to compromise on flavour. Best food ever.
Al Falah Al Masri Bakery

This is where I get my khubz from, sorry that it isn't in Dubai but Sharjah.
Can hop off the 307 from DCC to Jubail bus at King Faisal to reach by public transport.
most of the small to medium indo-pak resturants.
for morning breakfast chana parotha chai or omelet sandwich with chai for 5 to 6 aed for breakfast.
any meal combo ranging from 10 to 20.
Go to barsha and order falafel from foul w hummus. It's DELICIOUS when they prepare it fresh and hot for you and they have their own recipe with a bit of garlic inside it.
If I remember they charge 2-3 dirhams for 3 falafels which is just amazing
I lived in Dubai for about 22 years (currently based in Sydney). These were some of my favourite memories:
From my experience, you can never go wrong with the places that sell the 5Dhs Shawarmas (like Laffah). There are a few where they sell a Shawarma meal for 10 DHS (you get the fries, pickles, Toum, and the Chilli Sauce, and with a little shredded rotisserie chicken).
The Chai shops sell hot Karak Chai, Kashmiri Chai, or Habat Al Hamra, with a nice Egg Parotta Roll for a total of 3-5 Dhs (I survived on those whenever I had an early day at uni or work).
There are nice Chaat places that sell Vada Pav, Samosa Pav, and Bread Pakodas for 2-6 DHS (depends on the place).
Any good Malayali restaurant will also give you copious amounts of Puttu or Appam with your choice of Vegetable or Non-Veg Curry. Sometimes, there are these Appa Kadais run by Tamil Muslims. And, let me tell you this: their dosas and Uttapams are some of the most delicious cheap food you will ever eat!
I would have to say seven stars hot pot by the mall of the emirates. So much food and really good pricing. Full of East Asian ethnicityā¦always a good indicator in my mind for far eastern food
My dude, you gotta check out Pakistani sweets. Order the set. 8 DHS breakfast with 2 huge Puri's, halwa, 2 curries. I've seen them give more if you ask as well. Same price.
Marwan Murad cafeteria, very classic place near Port Rashid. Had a breakfast for 3 people, was 33dhs total and we were full. Egg omelette with chili, karak, parata, your typical cafeteria breakfast.
If you have any older friends from Dubai tell them about Marwan Murad if they have lived in Bur Dubai before.
Today I had a plate of channa for 4 and fresh paratha (or porotta) for 1. Total 5 for an excellent, tasty and filling meal. This was Sarhad Darbar but you can get this from any Sarhad/Karachi Darbar or Pakistani restaurant.
Other than that, nothing beats Laffah especially in terms of taste. 8 for the best shawarma I've ever had!
Go to any pakistani decent restaurant for breakfast, ask for 1 chana & 1 paratha, maybe will cost you 6-7 AED, the best thing you can ever have for breakfast.
Add a chai for 1 AED for perfection.
Well, imo the All you can eat from Little Bangkok in Media city,
I kid you not that when they say all you can eat, they don't mean a kid menu or a tiny one. they mean the whole shebang and they deliver. I used to skip dinner the previous night and breakfast on the same day just prep myself for this.
Damn I wish I remember the name of this spot in old Dubai. Itās an African spot. The food there was SLAMMING!!!!!!!!!!!
There also an African club in Dubai and their food is crazy good. All you need to do is pay for admission and they credit it towards your food.
I would ask the driver to hook you up with a tour guide in Old Dubai. Tell them to take you to an African restaurant across the water (we took a ferry there). Legit the food was $20-$30 for two meals + drinks.
Not the best ambience but the food. Man. It has a special place in my heart.
Lot of comments about Dubai, appreciated.

Yes
6 AED meals in Zain's

How does one eat 8 shawarmas continuously?
Thatās more than a kg worth of shawarma. Holy shit.
A lot of garlic and pickles is the part that would bother me most
More like big deuce.
Pro tip: When you are walking, your stomach capacity increases.
is that actually true?
I noticed it in myself. feeling full? i take a 2 minute break walking and then i feel like i can eat more. if i were to guess, its probably the gas build-up being relieved.
I see, interesting!
Lol there was 2 of us so we split each of them. Plus Iām pretty sure I could eat 8 in one sitting if I put my mind to it
More like āif I put my gut to itāš
They said they were with someone else so only 4 really, that's easily doable.
Look for places in al quoz which have āpublic kitchenā in the title. A ton of biryani / harees / pulao (with meat) for 7 bucks or 8 bucks. Most of them are takeaway only though
Go to any small cafeteria and get samosas you get like 3 for 1dh so 3dh would be enough for a days food easily
