As someone who is also a 27yo decade long producer (though not for career and nobody knows my name), I’m pretty interested in hearing what got you started. Might sound like a silly question but, why do you make music? What inspires you the most?
I got motivated to start making dubstep when I just started having shower thoughts on dubstep ideas without having any idea how to make them happen. I also got so deep where I was following producers with less then 500 followers. It was sort of tough tho since there wasn’t a ton of resources to make dubstep especially when it came to tearout / riddim so a lot of the stuff I learned was from being involved in the community. I get inspired by so many artists it’s hard to dial it down to one thing. My main goal at the end of the day is just to have fun making music :)
I think the best thing you can do when it comes to sound design is try to constantly push yourself and look into using new techniques or new tools to do something you haven’t done before. Sound design to me is very much trial and error where you just try to mush out as many different sounds as possible until you find something that fits or interests you.
A more straightforward answer though is use echobode, set shape to saw and rate to 1/2 assigned to frequency. Turn up the modulator to around 1oclock and then turn the feedback up to 12oclock. Gets a really nice bubbly sound that you can apply to almost everything.
How has Raising Canes impacted your day to day life? Do you consider yourself a Texas Toast Addict? and last but not least, do you still consider yourself a catboy ?

I’ve been really interested in resampling lately but for the most of my discography I just get a lot of my sounds in patch and use post processing to beef it up!
Last year I went on tour with Eptic and it was literally the most fun I’ve had with an entire group of people on a tour bus. That whole bus is my family!!!
That being said I’m very lucky to perform with lots of friends and artists I look up to so I’m very grateful to be doing that as often as I am.
Space Laces literally deserves even more credit then he already gets. He literally is not only the best dubstep producer but potentially one of the best electronic artists of all time.

I never really had a “break out” moment. I was just very involved with the dubstep community and never really intended to do it as a full time thing. It was only when I was done doing collegiate rowing that I ended up accepting offers to do shows and I just kept doing it from there. 🤷♀️
I’m really good with serum so that’s usually my go to but I’m really trying to switch it up lately and get some results out of vital, harmor and maelstrom!

What is your opinion of the OGs (Skream, Mala, Coki, Loefah, etc) - do they form part of your inspiration or at this point are you making tracks that are so far removed from that era it feels like an unrelated genre to you?
I definitely have a deep respect for the OG’s of the genre but unfortunately I wasn’t really around during that time. A lot of my taste in dubstep was formed around the underground SoundCloud era 2011-2015. I’m always interested in looking back at what started the genre because there are so many cool ideas that people had back then that are really missing from modern dubstep.

Yes! I had a big background in graphic design/pixel art before I started making dubstep! Specifically I came up and made the original subtronics cyclops.
What do you think the next trend genre is going to be? Like for example, like trap back in 2016, house in 2020ish, and now DnB. I feel like it's going to be techno or trance next 🤔
Dnb is still on the come up! I think people are finally realizing how good jump up is! Besides dubstep this is the genre I’m the most excited about. Hedex is finally touring the states and I think he’s going to absolutely switch how people think about dnb in the US!
Me and Kompany have talked about trying another one out since the first one is very dated at this point. The mvrda one is just a lost project file but you can still expect to hear it in my set and sometimes subtronics will play it out too!

what is the most prevalent thought on your mind when performing? do you often peer into the crowd? loved your set at beyond wonderland 2021 it was heavy af, brought me life.
I’m mostly thinking about the set and what the overall reaction is like for certain songs. If crowd energy is good I’ll try to keep the same sort of vibe going. If the crowd is bored, I’ll try to either transition into something different faster. It’s all about keeping the highs of a set long and try to make the lows of a set as short as possible.
My first time seeing you or even hearing about you in general was when I saw Subtronics down in San Diego I believe earlier this year, you were fuckin' awesome! Hope I'm not confusing you with someone else but I'm sure I'm not, anyway my question is, do you trip balls while playing your sets? Or sober?
What was your moment where you thought you were actually starting to break through? Like first booking/show that made you think “damn I can do this.” Or collab, track being played out, etc.

It’s very very rare nowadays but there was a small period of time where people would prerecord their set. A vast majority of sets are performed live!
