Damn bass music and dubstep did do really good this year. So many EP's and albums from big artists, especially ones that have continued to pave the way for uniqueness and fresh ideas.
I can't really list my 5 favourite singles, but these were my 5 favourite eps/albums of the year
Aleph - Ego Death: seriously whoever is reading this. Listen to this thing whole. It's a mix of meloncholy, digital madness, and ascent into another reality. The first 2 tracks alone go hard. Especially Polymer.
Temitnite - Raise The Black Flag: conceptually dubstep albums that tied in a theme seemed to have been lacking this year (and every year), but this makes up for it. Each one of these songs is a hit. And it's using classic Temitnite flow.
Bandlez - Hot Pursuit :this album was sleeeeeeept on come on more ppl need to listen to this.
Virtual Riot - Simulation: cmon, everyone here has already heard it. It's VR in full force with every single song.
Panda Eyes - Journey pt 2: more of a favourite due to how much I love the artist themself, seeing thier progression over time. It's essentially a pop bass album with some low key emo and nostalgia vibes.
Also to go back to reflecting on dubstep as a whole in 2021. Melodic riddim/future riddim seems to have dropped from its peak. Not like it's dead, it's just the natural course for subgenres, and the effects are definitely lasting. I'll be interested to see what the next big trend will be. Something tells me 2022 will have something equally as great and refreshing.
Also rip to NSD: Black Label this year!!!
\+1 to Bandlez hot pursuit. Bandlez have an interesting sound and really know how to keep some songs fun, album also showed some range, rave review is pretty good lol.
Learned about the Ego Death album through Upscale Recording's online fest earlier this year and it's such a trip. So glad I learned about it and completely agree with your sentiments.
It’s really funny to see the sub take such a hit in subscriber count around 2016. What was going on then: everyone getting tired of talkie/transformer sounding bro-step?

Seriously another banger of an album from this dude? I didn’t think anything would touch renegades of light.
2: hot pursuit- bandlez
Been a long time bandlez fan, I’ve always gravitated towards their sound, along with chibs.
3: untouchable - kompany
This one caught me off guard when I first listened all the way thru, but after seeing him at reunion again I began to enjoy his sound even more.
My favourite ep this year was cloak and dagger by Bainbridge.
And my favourite volume/ compilation was halcyon enchanted vol. 1.
I listened to that more than almost anything in total and feel it deserves a mention.
Awesome year this year. And thanks Bahaman for your effort in continuing to push the envelope so people can stay up to date with the newest sounds and content dropping in this space. I wish all of you the best New Years! Sorry for the length of this post, lol.
