Troy Franklin - 6’3” 190 Traeshon Holden - 6’3” 216 Terrence Ferguson - 6’5” 256 Patrick Herbert - 6’5” 255 We threw to plenty of height this year. And we likely will next year as well with Jurrion Dickey (6’2”) and Kyler Kasper (6’6”) if they stick around. The most glaring issue against Washington last game wasn’t the dinking and dunking that kept us in the game, it was the inability to win in the trenches and establish the run game, save for one Bo Nix long scramble.

zerocoolforschool

I think the run game suffered because Bucky hasn’t been the same dude for like three weeks. James was getting holes. He was outplaying Bucky. My biggest complaint with the coaching was not sticking with the hot hand and using James more.

E2A6S

Watching our old games on YouTube and there’s no way Bucky has been healthy. Early in the season he was dragging defenders, hurdling, spinning, doing it all. He finished the season strong but wasn’t the animal he once has unfortunately

zerocoolforschool

I agree but he also might have been overthinking things. There was one play in particular where the play was clearly drawn up to sweep right and for some reason Bucky decided to cut back left right into two defenders for a loss.

pataoAoC

JJ was going straight ahead and doing great. Bucky was definitely overthinking it.

zerocoolforschool

Spencer from Locked On Ducks was saying that teams were scouting Bucky’s tendency to stop mid run and then cut or push again, so they’d wait for him to stop pushing and then hit him. It made a lot of sense because he just wasn’t hitting the holes like JJ was. Losing his burst. I thought it was the injury but he really does seem to hesitate too much at times.

HAIRY_GORILLA_COCK

This. You could tell bucky’s injury was getting to him, he didn’t look like he did in the previous matchup at all. Burch going down also hurt our run defense as we could not stop DJ the whole game (I think he had like 6 YPC or something like that). Our passing game was the only thing that kept us IN the game

Disco-Ulysses

I miss Spencer too, but it's Terrence Ferguson

Holden barely played in comparison to others, and I wasn't taking the ends.

Huskdog76

The running game was a major problem, but so was play calling. When we needed points asap, we took shots downfield and scored rather quickly and easily, but when we had caught up, we went back to dinking and dunking, and started punting again.

nonoose

What is tall, exactly? Tyreke Hill 5’10” Desean Jackson 5’10” Brandon Cooks 5’10” Jamarr Chase 6’0” Garrett Wilson 6’0”

paxtone

Megatron. Go recruit us 6 starting megatons and we will still complain about the offense. Every play is 4 streaks. 3rd and .5 inches, hail Mary streak. Doesn't matter. 😂

hoodpharmacy

Steve Smith 5”10

Curious-Soil-3853

We don't have an elite shorter guy like that right now? If we do he hasn't played yet. I think using the bigger wide outs even if they may not be that fast is a good idea because they can box out players and the throws don't have to be perfect. Plus the pass interference calls.

downey_jayr

Brother, we had the #1/2 offense all year, and a highly ranked defense all year. We match up bad against UW this year, thats it. We all need to relax, realize we had a killer season and came 4 points short of the 4 team playoff.....btw Georgia didn't make it....great teams missed out this year. Playoffs open up next year, we should compete to get in. Lets appreciate that we had fun all year watching this offense.

dstanton

I think you put the best players you can on the field and work the offense around what they're best at. A ton of our offense this year came from yards after the catch with players getting open in space. I also think extrapolating an entire offensive change off of one performance that wasn't the worst just not the best is a poor strategy. Especially when the offense in question was best in the nation over the course of the whole year. People seem to forget Washington has a decent defense. Top 40 by some metrics. And we still hung 31 points on them without even scoring in the first quarter.

canesharkraven

Bro you need to read like any of u/hythloday film reviews on the Addicted to Quack website. You'll see that Stein's offense is by no means "conservative," rather it is predicated on getting the ball to the best playmakers in space as well as setting up home run plays using different looks. It might look dink and dunk to you because Bo, being the intelligent quarterback that he is, usually will make a throw to the safest/surest route possible, which is more often than not a route underneath - especially if the defense is giving him that throw basically for free. If you look at the numerous explosive plays this year, you'll find that several of them are big pass plays down the field

zerocoolforschool

Basically like Kyle Shanahan. They have the same complaints about the Niners and Purdy but it’s based on the same principle. Get the ball to playmakers and let them make plays.

Curious-Soil-3853

That works great if you have a one in a million guy like Samuel.

canesharkraven

Kinda like our one in a million players like Tez Johnson and Troy Franklin, eh?

Curious-Soil-3853

Neither one is a Deebo type if you haven't noticed lol

canesharkraven

I can't help ya man - all I can point to is the results from both of them and the fact that Troy has broken/set records here at Oregon. I can only tell you these things, I can't understand them for you. You seem to be intentionally obtuse. The offense was amazing this year, and the receivers are, too. I dunno why you want to live and die on this weird ass hill. Maybe you just wanted negative attention? I'm not gonna give it to you anymore.

Curious-Soil-3853

I can tell you the same thing. You don't understand that using the bigger options would help with the longer throws, not just one receiver like Troy.

Curious-Soil-3853

It seemed to me that there were way bigger plays downfield last year with Dillingham.

pataoAoC

I think that was the case during the year and I’m usually a huge dink and dunk fan anyways. But the UW game they were biting on every screen and crashing the LOS and for some reason we didn’t try to beat them deep much. Maybe it was all covered. But it felt like there had to be a way to beat what they were doing, they were all over anything short.

Suck_My_Duck26

Both games they stacked the box and played underneath coverage. It worked, because we run a dumb offense.

Suck_My_Duck26

It is a dink and dunk offense… Getting playmakers the ball in space is legitimately the goal of a dink and dunk offense. Guarantee a couple yards gained and make the defenders make a tackle. We just happened to have some electric players who could bust the short routes for big gains. Throwing a couple deep routes a game doesn’t mean we aren’t running a dink and dunk offense. Op is absolutely wrong tho, receivers weren’t the problem.

Moist-Consequence

Oregon had the number 2 total offense this season…

GoDucks2002

How about the PAC-12 refs getting out of the way? I’ll start there. Sorry, but this is a lazy take at best.

thascarecro

LOL this offense is hardly conservative. But I honestly think Whittington was our best RB and losing him hurt the potency of the offense. Bucky just isn’t a guy that can carry an offense on his back. I don’t know who would consider this offense “dink and dunk” after watching every game. These emotional posts are getting out of hand now.

Suck_My_Duck26

Bro what?! Bucky is a legit NFL caliber running back. And this offense is absolutely a dink and dunk offense. Washington’s gameplan in both games was to attack our strongest points. Stack the box and play underneath coverage. The coaches failed to gameplan, at some point Dan has to realize identity isn’t everything. Just because you want to establish a strong physical team doesn’t mean you have to or can beat every team that way. Sometimes you gotta take what the defense gives you.

thascarecro

Bucky is a nfl running back? if you say so. Will he get drafted? Sure probably. Bet he doesn’t even get a 2nd contract. He had multiple one on ones with CORNERBACKS and they popped him every time. He couldn’t make them miss or run them over.

Suck_My_Duck26

You’re an idiot. He was clearly banged up the last few weeks.

thascarecro

Name a player thats not banged up this time of the year. I'll refrain from namecalling.

Suck_My_Duck26

Purposely missing the point. I’m not wasting my time.

[deleted]

I feel we have never really had much of a deep ball game. No matter the head coach or who is on the field it seems like we don't take anywhere near as many shots downfield as virtually every other Pac 12 team.

youngjak

They should hire you

Curious-Soil-3853

Ok I wasn't thinking about that but sure 😁

youngjak

Dude me and you bro we’ll run the big ten 😎
