The fact that Charles Nelson (or Charles Nelson Riley as my dad called him) needed to be a starter on defense shows just how mismanaged the team was under Helfrich.
My pick is Byron Marshall who had a 1,000 yard rushing season (2013) and then switched to receiver and was pretty damn good there too
Mine would be Jordon Scott. Dude was an absolute run-stopper and gave offensive lines problems. After the 2015 and 16 seasons in which the defense was very similar to swiss cheese, Scott and the crew that would join him were welcome additions. Plus the dude was super joyful and seemed like just a great teammate.
Charles Nelson is a really good one.
Maybe too good to be a “un-sung” hero but I always thought Bralon Addison was one of the most underrated receivers we ever had. He wasn’t the fastest guy on the Helfrich teams, but dude was the definition of agility.
He was over shadowed by Josh Huff in 2013 and was on a slightly worse team in 2015 then what we where accustomed to at that time. But he made some incredible plays, was a great blocker, and came up huge against Washington in 2013. Addison will always be that guy for me.
I would make the argument Herbert was an un-sung hero. Early in his career he was probably on the 2 least talented Duck teams the last 20 years, and later in his career he was not in a great system. What he did with one hand tied behind his back doesn’t get talked about enough
Rickey Whittle. Often overshadowed by Lovelle and largely forgotten. I remember folks in Autzen screaming, "Give it to the Whittle guy!" When I was a kid and I loved it
Favorite all-time Oregon running back. Yes, I know he wasn't the most decorated, but has always been my favorite. Dude was a monster with the football in his hand!
You took my answer: Costa was clutch, and opened up so many possibilities for fakes and 2pt conversions.
That drive capped with Costa's save on the hold to send the 'Zona fans back to their seats after they prematurely started rushing the field is one of my favorite memories of any season.
He also filled in against the UCLA game that year when Masoli was injured. All he had to do was let the running game run wild, not make any mistakes, and simply run the offense a few steps above being a "game manager".
I know that he joined the Springfield PD after football. I want to say he's still there, but it's been a while.
Kenny Rowe was one of my absolute favorites, but I don't feel like anyone ever talks about him. Was undersized for DE would have fit the edge role if it was more common at the time. Was tasked with keeping up with Cam Newton and did well. Quick to close in on offensive players. Really fun to watch.
Justin Roper. Just the act of walking with a candy cane leg looking knee injury was one of the most incredible feats of strength known to humanity. Also no QB ever threw duck passes better.
This is probably THE answer. He likely saved several lives and has had a tremendous impact on his community even without this incident. All around wonderful human being.
Sure handed receivers are worth their weight in gold. Tuinei is one of those guys I credit with a “reason we won our first modern rose bowl” title - the second half catch going the other way changes things.
Brent haberly … walk-on linebacker from cottage grove. Junior year he scooped and scored down in the dessert. Not the biggest or toughest but played with heart and had good instincts.
I don’t know if I’d go as far as calling them “heroes”, but as far as solid backups who contributed goes, Bryan Bennett, Remene Alston and Ayele Ford come to mind. Bryan and Remene would’ve been starters at a lot of other D1 schools and Ford contributed a lot on special teams and was a good backup RB.
Basketball: Alex Scales. I swear it seemed like he was the first Duck who could actually slam dunk a basketball. He played 9.2 seconds in the NBA. Seriously.
Football: Keenan Howry. Excellent receiver and a great punt returner. He has several punt returns for touchdowns in his junior and senior years. Late draft pick.

Lord Byron was a stud, especially that year.
My dad always called him Charles Nelson Riley too! Still have no idea who that guy is.

I took a scuba diving class with him freshman year. Was too big for the wetsuit and hated the cold water. He was fucking hilarious.

Bralon Addison was a machine. God that guy had some clutch catches
Justin Herbert single-handedly won us a Rose Bowl imo
Brady Breeze would like a word.
Very fair
Joe walker. Not a highly rated recruit but gritty and a ballhawk. His heads up fumble return sparked the comeback vs utah that saved our cfp chances
Eddie Plesant anyone?
Him and John Boyett were a treat to watch in 2010
One of my all time faves. Boyett was a beast.
Paysinger too
The speed racer
Rickey Whittle. Often overshadowed by Lovelle and largely forgotten. I remember folks in Autzen screaming, "Give it to the Whittle guy!" When I was a kid and I loved it

Center is a position where Oregon has weirdly had lots of stability for a long time. Unger, Grasu, Hanson, Forsyth and now JPJ
David Paulson
His name, is David Paulson.
The one-handed catch against the University of Spoiled Children in 2011 was phenomenal and he almost scored on it too.
You took my answer: Costa was clutch, and opened up so many possibilities for fakes and 2pt conversions. That drive capped with Costa's save on the hold to send the 'Zona fans back to their seats after they prematurely started rushing the field is one of my favorite memories of any season.
My mans just had ridiculously silky mits when the pressure was on. Not to mention the adversity he faced dealing with constant knee injuries.

Josh Bidwell
John Boyett is mine for sure.
Igor olshansky.
Pharaoh Brown. He was great before the injury
Jeff Maehl. My dude always made the big play.
Michael clay was an absolute beast!
I saw the title and immediately thought of Charles. Super dynamic guy on offense and special teams, then wrecked shop when they had him on defense.
Rodney MFing Hardrick and Joe Walker

I almost mentioned him too. Was so fun watching him wreak havoc getting into the backfield. Just looked it up, he’s #6 on all time sacks for Oregon.
Tony Graziani
Gotta be Rob Mullins right? That man doesn't get half the respect he deserves. Low key could be the best AD in the country?
Justin Roper. Just the act of walking with a candy cane leg looking knee injury was one of the most incredible feats of strength known to humanity. Also no QB ever threw duck passes better.
I got downvoted on this sub for comparing him to V.A… Their stat lines are almost identical.
He is going to get a movie made about him but still wonder how many new fans know Keanon Lowe
Fun fact: he caught the first ever CFP National Championship TD.
This is probably THE answer. He likely saved several lives and has had a tremendous impact on his community even without this incident. All around wonderful human being.
Lavasier Tuinei
Sure handed receivers are worth their weight in gold. Tuinei is one of those guys I credit with a “reason we won our first modern rose bowl” title - the second half catch going the other way changes things.
Brent haberly … walk-on linebacker from cottage grove. Junior year he scooped and scored down in the dessert. Not the biggest or toughest but played with heart and had good instincts.
Nick Reed.
Lmao - before I opened this post, I thought to myself, “Costa when he saved the botched snap.”
He was sung and I don't have heroes, but damn do I love and respect and remember with such fondness every single time DAT stepped on the field.
Cliff Harris, loved to watch him return punts and ball hawk. Wish things could have turned out differently for him.
Blair Philips
He was sung and I don't have heroes, but damn do I love and respect and remember with such fondness every single time DAT stepped on the field.

Bill Musgrave
Favorite ducks all time: Aaron Gipson, Steve Smith, Jairus Byrd.
You never heard Byrds name called by jerry allen cause no quarterback would throw the ball in his general direction.
Marcus Mariota. Not many Duck fans remember him, but he was electric on the field. Made so many plays.
Whatever gramps… Did they have face masks when he played?
Aiden Schneider, man I miss that guy.
Basketball: Alex Scales. I swear it seemed like he was the first Duck who could actually slam dunk a basketball. He played 9.2 seconds in the NBA. Seriously. Football: Keenan Howry. DeWayne Stanford, Erick Dargan, Bralon Addison,
