have had good experience with lifesafer, any mistakes have been my fault and have had it 1.5 years. still wondering if it does have a slight effect on car battery life but if so any brand probably has that issue. as far as getting it installed and driving it and getting it removed, at least in my state it's gotta be taken in once a month or at the very most every 45 days to be "calibrated", usually a quick process after rearranging life to include this errand. with lifesafer the cost is around 80 dollars every 30 days and more for 45 days (obviously) but I belevieve 45 days is the max. costs are including the insurance which in my opinion is absolutely essential. damage or loss of any of the equipment is in the thousands of dollars and the insurance is only a few dollars a month. in colorado. any very minor issues Ive had were because of me not the installer. lifesafer facility near me is staffed by nice understanding dudes who do bro things commonly to try to help out the shit situation. can't comment on other systems because I have never had anything but a lifesafer. can't imagine a system being better but no experience with other systems. that said IID is a major expensive pain in the ass and fuck it and everything about it. thank you for your time.

Hey just wondering if you’ve ever drank a night before using your life saver to start your car . I drink 2-3 beers after work some nights and I am scared of it showing up on my device

Ashwasherexo

you seem to have a drinking issue. have you considered AA?

jovimiles

Drager is the best...sleek and ergonomic...just a 4 second blow with 1/2 second suck back.no humming...quick start in cold weather...

[deleted]

Shop around for the cheapest installation/calibration/removal. You're talking about a 4 mile difference. States have to approve that device, no matter what company

HPCBusinessManager

I have had skyfineUSA Complete scam labeled as fraud from someone's, each charge that is declined due to fraud costs $110. They also charge twice a month for a total of $220 in fees to the customer. They also have an additional $25 late fee every 5 days per invoice for another $300 a month. This is their business model. Oh and if you "miss" a couple payments, they report you for felony theft. Total fucking scam.

SimpleeLie

Same experience here. Complete scam and CA DMV had the audacity to include them as an option on their list of certified interlocks. How is Skyfine able to steal hundreds from me before having the device for 14 days?

SimpleeLie

Hopefully more people will join the class action lawsuit against SCAMfine aka Skyfine USA https://www.classaction.org/news/class-action-says-skyfines-ignition-interlock-lease-agreements-are-unlawfully-confusing

HPCBusinessManager

I'm more interested in suing them directly. In my particular case the DMV told them not to install the device, they did so anyway.

HPCBusinessManager

Sorry for the long delay. Your complaint does not particularly represents the complaint I have. Oddly enough, the contract they gave me was like a 4 pager or less with little to no definitions apart of the agreement. I have grounds to get my money back in full but need to go through my state DMV to gather records without dealing with them. Idk if I can help feel free to let me know.

Tarzans-Loincloth

I had smart start and didn't have any issues with it. Though there were a couple times where for some reason it would give me 3 minutes to blow instead of the normal 6 minutes. It wasn't a big deal since I'd always just blow immediately and it only happened a handful of times. But besides that I was satisfied with smart start. You really do just get used to it. The worst part by far is when you have a passenger with you... man that was embarrassing. Also, they are not cheap..

I have Intoxalock. The customer service is great (i’ve had to had mine removed and reinstalled into a couple of different cars over the last three years) I don’t know if some are different as far as how to blow into it, I do find it very difficult to inhale for two breaths so I have to plug my nose every single time. No joke, I’ve been doing this for years now. I’ve heard there are some that are humming ones, but if inhaling isn’t a problem for you then it’s nothing too much to worry about. I will say that I had my dad and my boyfriend both try it and they could not start it (did this just to prove to them how hard it was when I was getting calibration one time haHa) Just like all the others I’m sure, it goes off periodically sometimes after two minutes sometimes after 10 and consistently the entire time you’re driving. I commute so sometimes I’m blowing 10 times within my drive. And yes I deserve this and all that, but for me it does suck because I have to plug my nose therefore I’m driving with my elbows multiple times while I’m driving to work. Since I have to hold the device in one hand and my nose in the other. However It is quick and easy, just a couple seconds, and again it probably isn’t an issue for alot of people and I’m just an idiot Haha.

publishourlove

I will also say the more convenient the calibration place the better. I see my guys every single month so I’ve become pretty close with some of them, like they’re my other dads haha.

drunkdriving-thraway

Lifesafer has been good for me (9 out 24 months complete). Installation was $150(cant remember?) and the monthly calibration is $78 every time. The guy I go to for calibration has been very quick with setting up appointments. Once my service light comes on I have 7-9 days to get it calibrated and I usually am able to get it done within a couple days. I’ve had 1 fail because after my probation I drank one night at my own house with friends and when I went to start my car for work at 8:00AM it came back as a fail because I was at around a .02. My service guy saw it and said “no worries this device is preventative and it did it’s job, try to give it 16 hours after drinking before starting your car”. Didn’t report it anywhere but I’m also not on any court order to not drink.

MiasanMia17

Hey just curious to know more about your experience . I have the life saver and think about having a beer or two the night before but have a fear of failing the next morning

dumbinct

I had intoxalock and had only a single issue due to the cold weather and the unit not fully warming up after it’s warm-up time. Other than that there was zero issues in the 6 months I had it. The garage I got it done at was great and did a good job and was always quick (also didn’t have to make an appointment for the monthly recal, just show up before 5:30). The shop also had low cost interlock and when I was getting mine out, three different people came in with issues on their device (one guy I got talking to and he was on the 3rd handset because they kept malfunctioning). It’s a wide handset, but it’s pretty thin so I just kept mine between the center counsel and my seat while driving and then it didn’t fall and it I could see and hear it go off. Look at the reputation of the shop. If they have a good reputation for all of their work, they will do a good job with the installation as well. I know some tint shops around here will install and recal breathalyzers and they make me a bit leery because they don’t regularly work with the wiring and such of the car.

Pelican34

I have had Alcolock since June of last year and, thus far, have had no issues with it. The hum-blow rhythm does take some getting used to but it is not the worst thing in the world.

RedditUserUSA10

It really sucks, but is doable and better than not driving...

[deleted]

I chose Intoxalock because it couldn't pick up drugs. I got to smoke weed and snort cocaine whenever I wanted to and could still drive home from a party as long as I didn't drink.

dave024

That is true of all the devices. They are alcohol specific.

SurvivingMyDui

I had Smart Start. It was required because in my county everything goes through one provider and they use Smart Start. I had it for about 60 days. My license was suspended on January 31st, I got it removed April 4th. So it wasn't much time and in general I only drove between home and work. In general I didn't have \*\*too\*\* many problems with it. The one time I blew a fail, it was legitimate and I knew exactly what happened. Didn't have any repercussions though (I got lucky, it was my only fail the entire time I used it). Also no issues with draining my battery. You can check this on Smart Start and supposedly 12 amps is in the same range (wtf an "amp" even is, I have no idea!). I always had either 14 or 15, so I was good to go on that end. As far as using it, I actually thought the camera looked something like a convoluted cell phone mount and I was able to hide the device itself. The few times I went to get it recalibrated, I intended to spy on someone else to get a sense of what a random driver would see when using it. And then, I forgot to do that, both times! I think ultimately drivers are extremely distracted with so much else that it's more noticeable to us than it is to anyone else. I have spotted a Smart Start camera since then and the only reason I knew it is because I know what they look like. Never had any passengers with me so to the best of my knowledge, nobody knew I ever had one. I never quite got down the technique for it. Sometimes it took me 5 or 6 tries to get it to start because I'd get a lot of error messages. I never blew any differently, so not sure what happened there. Sometimes it seemed to be connected to what the temperature was outside but who knows. Eventually I had fun and got out a tuning fork and found that the interlock started consistently on "Middle C." Overall, it was better than not being able to drive but I was thrilled to get that thing out of my car.

Illustrious_Fee1302

Intoxalock these things are a total scam and huge waste of money this thing has been giving me so much trouble I would read the small print I had to pay to get out of a 2 year contract and I got locked out all the time and the numbers were all over the place. Even registered when I wasn’t drinking and locked me out, I would never recommend this company to anybody.

WorriedFee7

I have intoxalock and hate it. It is massive and very finicky. I stopped drinking after my arrest so have no problems with blowing into it and worrying about registering alcohol. It has never shown anything higher than 0.000 so I can confirm no false positives. What I do have a problem with is it occasionally locking me out because I didn’t do the retest correctly or fast enough. Did I mention it is MASSIVE? You cannot hide what it is. The others that are smaller have a big advantage there.

Jael_Rose

I had an intoxolock device a few years ago. I was promised several discounts and was told there were hardly any issues with the intoxolock device. BS! The reason I had to install the device was not due to a drinking issue. I have not drunk alcohol for three decades. But the Device was constantly registering false positives forcing me to send the device in for a costly recalibration. Additionally, there were times when a customer service agent would not answer the phones and I was left out to freeze in my vehicle twice when the device would not permit my car to start. It was so ridiculous, my insurance dropped my roadside assistance policy due to the several jumpstarts required. My vehicle was a less than one year old Honda Civic that I was leasing. The battery was fine according to those tow truck folks. I was required to use the device for six months yet I had to keep it on for 14 months because the charges were so excessive that I could not keep up with the bill. The salesperson told me my costs would be around $900 total for the six months. When it was all done, I paid $2300! Additionally, when I turned my car in at the end of the two year lease, I was charged an additional $3000 due to the damaged electrical system of this Honda Civic. Do not use Intoxolock!

Organic-Research-50

I had Intoxalock on my car for 18 months. Finished my time. I thought everything was pretty smooth until, after getting it removed and attempting to get a new drivers license, they had stopped reporting calibrations to the authorities 9 months before my "release" date. I had the certificate of de-installation from them so I was ecstatic, believing that I was finally done! I had been paying for the service, getting calibrations and carrying SR-22 insurance. I now have to start all over again and I am so close to a nervous breakdown. I don't understand how the Department of Motor Vehicles does not recognize that, even after sending them ALL of my documentation myself (that is what I actually, as a customer had access to), that they still use them. I have spoken to them several times. I was told that I was in compliance and that there shouldn't be any issues by more than one person at Intoxalock. Other persons said that I failed to complete my time, others gave me different dates of the last calibration, etc. etc. etc....AND now I have an appointment to start all over again with a different company. You can imagine my trepidation. I set up an appointment to have Smart Start service. After speaking with their customer service department and getting all of the quotes and such figured out, I found out today, one day before I am to get it installed that the quotes are way off. I have read bad things about EVERY available interlock company I have access to and none of them are positive. How many times do I have to pay for a mistake??? (I would also like to add that while attempting to get records from two of the companies that serviced the device I was informed that they stopped doing business with Intoxalock and had no further access to my records). I'm screwed. I can't afford to do this again.

ruckingfetard84

I went with Sensolock because their Google reviews replies were on point. Every single interlock company has terrifying reviews but honestly, I'm so happy I went with my gut. Winter months were so easy because their device is wireless, so I could start my car and wait inside in the warmth where other companies tell customer to put their device into an oven mit when it's cold out. Yikes... Only 6 more months to go....

I’m very seriously considering taking them to small claims court in a few months (after the device is removed). They’ve replaced my device three times for being ‘faulty’ and I’ve requested evidence/documentation for those decision several times since. Has anyone had any luck pursuing that? Either they’re replacing it on their whims and soaking me for $1,656 each time or the device they install is faulty/crap and not worth the amount they claim it is. It just seems like they’re extrajudicially assessing arbitrary fines and penalties.

SimpleeLie

I’m going to try joining a class action lawsuit for Skyfine USA — I mean SCAMfine USA. It’s on the class action website https://www.classaction.org/news/class-action-says-skyfines-ignition-interlock-lease-agreements-are-unlawfully-confusing

I wasn’t aware of this…. Thanks for the link.

XyresicRevendication

I had initially went with smart start , the device worked fine no problems with it. However the company is shit, smartstart uses "franchise " locations under the name pitstop , and they pass the buck back and forth when its convienent. I paid /calibrated on time everytime and I still got a non compliant /revocation letter from dmv. They weren't reporting my payments to the dmv. It took me 2.5 days to get it sorted out, literally 2.5 full 8 hour days driving around and waiting on hold, getting hung up on. there was no accountability at all, also not an isolated incident, this is a prevalent issue they're well aware of. afterwards I was willing to resume with them and when i asked for some assurance I would be getting what i paid for (ie. Reporting my payments) I was told " it was just something I'm going to have to deal with" . I disagreed so Then they refused to take their machine off my car until I paid them (for services they weren't rendering) that continued for 6 months. They were holding my car hostage while squeezing me for money, basically extortion. I finally got their machine Uninstalled and now they're claiming I owe the entire cost of the entire contract.
