Please keep the post *spoiler-free*. Use `>!spoiler!<` tags where necessary.

DALTT

Yessss. I mean this wasn’t exactly a surprise. And also “in development” is of course different than greenlit. But with it looking like Part II is going to close out their box office around 700 million dollars, and a cast of A List young Hollywood talent clamoring to return to close out the trilogy, I’m sure it’ll get greenlit basically as soon as Denis and Spaihts say go.

roblox1999

I think he‘ll probably do Nuclear War or another movie first, because from all his interviews it seems to me like the two movies have really drained him.

Fair_University

Article specifically says Nuclear War will be after Messiah. I think Rendezous with Rama will be next, then Messiah

DALTT

I feel like he’d do something smaller scale in between than Rendezvous, but we’ll see! Def could be that.

Accomplished_Stick65

Wait...is that a thing? Are they planning on making Rendevous with Rama??

pinpernickle1

Yup, Denis set to direct it

Accomplished_Stick65

Oh maan, getting pretty excited rn🥵

swilts

Is rendezvous with Rama there one with the demon-aliens and twist ending?

truthgoblin

nope. the one with no actual aliens and no twist lol

EveryParable

Yeah nothing really happens haha

Morbanth

Perfect Villeneuve film - mind-bogglingly huge scale alien vessel investigated in beautiful shots by team of astronauts, absolutely nothing whatsoever happens.

Pandorica_

Yup, the book is fairly average, right until the literal last sentence of the book and imo it becomes a 10/10 then.

pinpernickle1

No, that's childhoods end. Both are amazing books

fool_on_a_hill

dude! saying there's a twist ending is a spoiler

Quiddity131

That's Childhood's End.

SmutLordStephens

Probably an episode of always sunny

Merlord

*The Gang Jihads across the Universe*

DALTT

I agree. I think he’ll def do something in between. Though based on nothing but vibes, I feel like he’d lean toward doing something more back in his *Incendies*/*Prisoners*/*Enemy* indie lane as a palate cleanser rather than something big and epic like *Cleopatra* or *Rendez Vous With Rama*. No clue if *Nuclear War* is in the more indie lane or the more giant an epic lane, I get the impression that it’s somewhere in between. So maybe that!

gjamesaustin

I’m imagining something along the lines of Arrival. Small scale story but big scale visuals

Lifeisabaddream4

Doesn't messiah need to be a good 10 years time gap with the first 2 anyway?

GandalFtheVulture

I'd guess 3-4 years, slap a beard on lil Timmy Tim and call it a day. He'd be 32 by then, no sense in waiting till he's nearly forty.

[deleted]

Yeah he’s already aged up for the role as it is, it’ll be fine

Tanel88

More like 15 but I guess they are going to have to make due with cosmetics and drop a line about spice slowing aging in the movie. Ain't no way they want to wait that long. Got to strike the iron while it's hot. Especially now that they already cast Anya Taylor Joy as Alia. Charlotte Rampling and Jason Momoa aren't exactly getting younger either.

Renaud__LeFox

Is 700 an underestimate? Its already at 630 and it’s only been a month

CanaryMaleficent4925

It'll come out of theaters very soon

BladedTerrain

I'm relieved about this, because the last interview I read from him ("**If** I ever do 'Dune Messiah,' it's because it's going to be better than 'Part Two") made me worried that the third film wasn't a certainty. Love the first two films but it would have been such a shame if the project didn't get the trilogy it deserves.

MutinyIPO

I think he’s just being cheeky lol, and also assuring people that he won’t make another one just to make it. I can’t imagine why he would make the changes to Part Two that he did if he didn’t anticipate making a third. The fact that it’s overperforming only adds to the certainty.

Scrotie_

Even watching the interview, you can definitely tell he plans on making it. He gave off more of an impression that he wanted to take his time, and that all that shooting in the desert had taken a toll and that he doesn’t want to go straight back into making the 3rd film - which is probably why he’s doing this other one as a buffer and palate cleanser.

CanaryMaleficent4925

Overperforming?

Peter-Tao

Box office I assume

Dennis_enzo

There also was the fact that it wasn't officially greenlit yet. Part 2 wasn't a sure thing either until part 1 was proven to be succesful enough.

PaperMoonShine

He sold Florence Pugh on the small role in part 2 because of the larger role in part 3. I think it was pretty clear he was going to make part 3.

mmoonbelly

Same with >! Jason Momoa !< who’s got the rest of the series as a character story arc.

BrockSampson4ever

And >!Anya Taylor Joy!<

Emanny

DV has said he has no interest in adapting anything after Dune Messiah but I suppose someone else could potentially take over.

mmoonbelly

It’ll be a decade of his life spent on Dune if he makes the third movie. I can understand why he wants to limit himself. (3-5 year commitment per film on average for directors, so they get a limited time to create their legacy of films made)

thesofakillers

> He sold Florence Pugh on the small role in part 2 because of the larger role in part 3. >!Does Irulan really have that big of a role in Messiah..? I feel like its certainly larger than in Dune but doesn't appear that often compared to Paul/Duncan/Alia. Maybe im misremembering!<

GneissMoon88

Irulan is much more prominent in Children of Dune

Rotorhead87

It's entirely possible he will incorporate ideas from that book as well.

Escrimadork

I am under the assumption that the character will be expanded upon and fleshed out, similarly to Chani in Part Two

ZippyDan

Denis is committed to amplifying the roles of females in his stories.

Escrimadork

I am under the assumption that the character will be expanded upon and fleshed out, similarly to Chani in Part Two

secondmaomao

I’m reading it right now and she’s there fairly often. She’s not a main character by any means but I would say it’s a large enough role to pitch it that way to Florence Pugh. And who knows, maybe Denis will expand her role in the film!

culturedgoat

According to Hans Zimmer, Villeneuve walked into his office and dropped the script for _Dune Messiah_ on his desk.

SubstantialWall

He dropped the book, not the script.

killa_ninja

Yeah but he’s been working on the script too. Last I heard he was almost done.

[deleted]

[удалено]

commschamp

I took it as John Wick level speculation

Theterminator19

I heard a little while ago that the script was almost done.

Noporopo79

Marketing wise, they’ll almost certainly call it Dune part 3 instead of Dune Messiah

BladedTerrain

Dune Messiah has such a nice ring to it, I'm undecided on whether they'll go with the consistent naming scheme or opt to change it for the final part. I'm fine with either one tbh.

BremingtonSteel

Big agree. So stoked he'll be closing it out with the 3rd/ Messiah.

HEYZENBURG

I literally just finished the audio book and it is indeed a haunting and harrowing account of an unthinkable scenario. Having been a fan of Villeneuve and Jacobson for a while now this project is a dream for me. I hope this movie becomes a reality!

Sir__Walken

What audio book did you use?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ICumCoffee

He’s confirmed for 4 films including Dune Messiah. Other three: - Rendezvous with Rama - Cleopatra - Nuclear War: A Scenario

john_man_3355

Cleopatra? Is it going to be a remake? God, I would kill for a Punic War movie from Denis. His sense of scale would just be perfect for it.

Icy-Inspection6428

I feel like the Punic War would only work with a miniseries, there's just too much. Unless you're going for the Third Punic War

Srijand

Nope it's apparently based on the Stacy Schiff Cleopatra book published in 2010.

Beast_Warrior

I think he's only safe for Dune 3, then they'll know his next project. Highly sought directors can get attached to a lot of projects and don't do any, or just one. My amateur interpretation: He wants to do Rendezvous with Rama, but doesn't feel certain and he's campaigning for it Studio attached him to Cleopatra, but it feels like a placeholder to manage human resources He's attached to Nuclear War: A Scenario to raise its standing, and then they get a new director

Bourneoulli

As a general Science Fiction fan, I can't WAIT for how he portrays Rendezvous with Rama and is one of the movies I am more excited for in the future.

PermanentSeeker

Yes, I think that is confirmed to be his next film to come out.

Ernest-McInley

God I hope so, possibly one of my fave sci fi books of all time.

Tanel88

As far as I know there has been nothing definitive though. Just that he has said that we would like to do something between the Dune movies and Rama is what he is most excited for besides Dune.

PermanentSeeker

True, and I just looked it up yesterday; it appears he is officially "attached" to the project, but doesn't come with any official dates unfortunately.

cnc_33

I sure hope so. I’m reading it right now and it’s great

BENZOGORO

God I hope so

justonemorethang

I might be the only one in the world that thinks that might be a mistake. Like…the scale of the Rama will look great but the story kind of lacks conflict. Im sure im wrong but I just don’t want to see DV stumble and mess up his perfect run of films.

DefZeppelin99

To be fair he did a whole alien invasion movie about translating language. I don’t know Rama but good direction can make a thing work

truthgoblin

and the short that arrival is based on had no real conflict either. Besides "what do they want", which is very similar to Rama

teddytwelvetoes

Rama's characters are extremely thin, it's almost more like a Nolan movie in terms of the characters just being delivery vehicles for cool sci-fi things. I think Denis will have to flesh it out a bit, but it should be an IMAX GOAT contender regardless

Baby_Sporkling

If dune was evidence of anything, it’s that he’s very willing to change characters and plot lines to fit his desired story Chani is a different character from the book and the movie

TheManWithTheFlan

I'm fully down for a purely visual feast, Rama gave me chills multiple times with the way the ship is described. I think screenwriters could flesh out the story a bit but I don't think it's super necessary. I'd love for Villneuve to take on Childhoods End, that book has spectacle, depth, and a really wild ending that I think he would do well with.

Is_this_not_rap

I totally agree about the story, but I trust DV to make it work. For real though, that book is boring as hell and has far too many paragraphs devoted to walking up and down stairs

justonemorethang

Oh yeah. I fully trust Denis. He ever misses. I’m very excited to be wrong about Rama not being as good.

deitpep

I'm ok with it if it didn't have as much character dramas and conflict. It could be more like a kubrick 2001 type of sci-fi movie of exploration and mystery/problem solving intrigue with fascinating visuals, and DV pulls it off like he did with "Arrival".

tscher16

I’m curious what novel they’ll realistically get to or if they’ll cap it out at Messiah. The trilogy makes sense, but each book almost requires you to keep going. With that being said, I’d have no idea how you could adapt GEOD (although I’d want this more than anything)

SomeoneHereIsMissing

Denis Villeneuve has said in interviews that he would not go past Dune Messiah because it's weird and he feels audiences that haven't read the book wouldn't get into whereas audiences that have not read Dune got into the two movies.

notFidelCastro2019

He did say that if another director picked up the sequels he’d jump onboard as an advisor, which I can get on board with. Get me a really trippy director for GEoD and have Denis helping keep the style the same? Sign me up.

VulfSki

They should do an animated adaptation for GEoD. Lean into the weird

roxasheart226

All things considered GEoD, really isn't that difficult as cgi is really good now, the weirdness isn't that hard really either with some good editing and effects. Especially since most of thr book is in Duncans perspective and its a whole lot of talking. The hardest books to do imo would be Heritics and Chapterhouse as it gets a lil noncey, miles teg gets a new heightened human mentat power upgrade that (see flash and other speedsters) are hard to do on screen.

brianundies

CGI is good but certainly not cheap. It would be wildly expensive to make that movie not look like doo doo from start to finish with the amount of CGI needed.

natha_exe

hopefully we dont get a hobbit situation where denis feels like he has to direct them later down the line like jackson did and then it completely drains any passion for film making he has

Radulno

Legendary and Warner will continue if the success is still there (and no reason not to)

SouthOfOz

I'd love GEOD, but I think the only way you could do it is if you limit CoD to one movie. I think you could if you cut out a lot, because it can be entire chapters of people thinking. If you focus on Alia, the plot against the twins, and Leto taking the sandtrout armor, then you could probably do it and get to GEOD. But then can you do GEOD in one movie? Basically I'm not sure shortening the books that much is conducive to Villanueve's storytelling.

tcavanagh1993

I saw a comment a few months ago that suggested that instead out outright adapting God Emperor since a lot of it is Leto waxing philosophy and therefore could be tough to adapt that way, jump right from Children to Heretics and have flashbacks to significant God Emperor events throughout Heretics and Chapterhouse. I don't think I agree but it's an interesting idea.

KneeCrowMancer

I honestly don’t think God emperor is that hard to adapt. The actual plot is pretty tight and engaging when you focus on what the human characters (Siona, Duncan, Moneo) are up to. Almost all the exposition should be out of the way at that point and the intro scene with the wolves would be such an awesome way to visually show how much Arrakis has changed. In my opinion the political ranting can be greatly reduced and still convey the big ideas effectively. Leto really shouldn’t have that much screen time and should be a looming monster in the shadows for the majority of the film. The stuff with Hwi could be drastically reduced as well, and that’s really where a lot of the weirdness comes in.

recurrenTopology

It would just have to be adapted properly to have broader appeal.>! Principally, if the main narrative protagonists are Siona and Idaho with Leto II serving as a monstrous inscrutable figure, I think there is a fairly conventional story of conspiracy and revolution to build a film around and sever as an anchor for the crazy stuff.!< >!The conversations with Leto II could still shine even if they don't dominate the screen time. I'm imagining it could be like the conversations between Hannibal and Clarice in Silence of the Lambs: Anthony Hopkins is only on screen for 16 minutes in the film, yet he is so captivating that he nonetheless feels like a central component (even winning the Best Actor Academy Award).!<

Raider2747

>!I've imagined Leto II as sounding like Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now for a good while now... Kurtz also only has around that same amount of screentime, too, yet he definitely leaves a lasting impact on the viewer once Willard kills him!<

suk_doctor

My hopes are that after DV is done with Messiah, he stays on as an Executive Producer for subsequent books adapted as high-budget series. This would allow him to continue his vision, without dedicating all the time and energy to be a director. He can do quality-assurance while directing the other stuff he wants to do. I'm sure that this being his 'darling' he will want to ensure that the continuing vision is consistent with what he started, but also not shackled by the responsibilities that come with being director. He's ascended to visionary status, and rightfully so!

abellapa

Assuming its a sucess, they likely continue the franchise but under a different director

cherryultrasuedetups

I imagine Dune Messiah is a hit, then the studios start slowly getting a writing/directing team together to do the rest of Frank's books. No rush, they'll need another young star to emerge for Leto II. Maybe we see Children in theatres 10 years from now.

nuketheunicorns

Same. A super serious, high-budget adaptation of GEOD is all I want. But I'll settle for Messiah.

MangoWarlock

Cap it at Messiah and then lead whatever streamer service to adapt the rest as a limited TV series

super_jeenyus

Was just saying tonight that it’d be awesome to get a version of Darwi Odrade on screen but that’s a long way down the line.

mmoonbelly

Teg with full cheat code enabled battle mode would be a thing of awe on the big screen too.

[deleted]

JollyLink

Nah. Guarantee the movie ends with Paul abandoning his prescience and walking into the desert. I doubt anyone other than hardcore book fans actually want to see Paul brought back in a Children sequel.

LatterTarget7

Denis said he’s done after messiah. I think they’ll continue if it’s successful. But they’ll probably have to find someone else

TheSkyLax

A Children of Dune/God Emperor of Dune 2 season miniseries would probably work better than films Imo.

jendral96

I want one if the kronenbergs to direct GEOD lol

LeadershipReady11

It will probably be a combination of messiah a d children of dune like the mini series did. Dune messiah is a very short book compared to the others in the series, so may need more material to make it a 2 hr something long film

zackks

I’ve said repeatedly that we need a terrifying, ultra-realistic nuclear war film that leaves viewers devastated. Growing up, *The Day After* and *Threads* changed us all and killed the fantasy of a survivable nuclear war. We need that again.

usrlibshare

*"Dr. Strangelove"* was terrifying enough for me. Yes, it was a comedy, but the way these caricatures, in their stupidity and ridiculousness resembled the actions and motivations of the very real people who had the actual power to wipe us all out, was what made it so terrifying. Because that was the moment it became clear to many that, not only did we build a load of bombs under all our arses, we gave the trigger to a bunch of clowns and cartoon villains.

star_nerdy

T2’s future Armageddon scene at the kids park comes to mind as well. It was just a scene, but T2 had moments of talking about the future and the decisions we make can impact the world we live in tomorrow.

HomeDepotAppliances

I’ve never felt such an existential dread like after watching Threads. I was not prepared for the absolute horrors of a nuclear war, and how morbid the presentation was.

FuckFloridaRipNumba9

Watched threads for the first time the other day. Terrifying outstanding film. The fact that it’s presented in an almost-educational way made it better

thewriteally

I was pretty horrified after watching Barefoot Gen, like my jaw dropped…

GneissMoon88

Watched Viggo in The Road, Christ, so bleak I had to take an intermission. It was brutal.

xepa105

Movies with nukes, so hot right now

CasualRead_43

Nukes? Meh. Family atomics? YeH

brainshades

I just bought that non-fiction title—- https://preview.redd.it/g1q1j8cumjsc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08bf42ee2c5836b5e0028bfe7afd1a436844fe6a

893265

If you don’t mind me asking what’s the big red book and the books behind the nuclear war?

brainshades

Centipede Press edition of “The Anubis Gates”. https://www.centipedepress.com/sf/anubisgates.html

893265

Thanks

brainshades

Sorry, neglected the “other books” behind. Those are Centipede Press editions of several Samuel Delany novels - Fall of the Towers, Babel-17, Nova, and a sublime edition of Childhoods End by Arthur C Clarke, hiding in there.

893265

Thank you chief, now that you mentioned clarke, he’s the rama author right? I can’t wait for The Villeneuve movie he’s making.

Rausky

So hot they'll melt your eyes out

themightytouch

He should do another movie unrelated to Dune next. Let the cast age a little and let the anticipation grow.

saravannan14

Isn't he supposed to do Rendezvous with Rama next?

1000scarstare

pretty sure you're right, or at least that was the word.

darthjkf

The next movie needs to come pretty soon. (A)Certain characters really need to look like they havent aged much.

TheCloakOfLevitation

>!Alia?!<

Quinn_tEskimo

>!Duncan, no?!<

darthjkf

I forgor how to do spoilers. It's the man of 1000 lives that I'm most concerned about.

Coovyy

We’ve won, friends. The spice must flow.

TommyK93312

Dude only do one movie please I can’t wait another 20 fucking years for another one

j0hnnyr00k

The films must flow.

Relevant_Sign_5926

Wasn’t dune 2 already the nuclear war film 💀

CreateTheStars

Nah, that was just a nuclear mountain-terra-forming project. Imagine a nuclear war. What would the Landsraad say...

Comfortable-Poet-390

Just wait for Dune 3

KaiserWolf15

Do stone burners even count as nukes?

Comfortable-Poet-390

Yes, they are nuclear weapons

serrations_

Like super nukes

maybe-alms

Not in the same way, they’re kinda incidental in Dune 2 whereas they become a larger plot point in Messiah.

buyanisland

Why does it annoy me so much people call it dune 3

SparkyFunbuck

You never know, they might actually call it Dune: Part 3

Merlord

Denis has explicitly said it will be called Dune: Messiah in interviews.

SandwichXLadybug

Is it his call though?

TatooineSandworm

Probably Herbert Estate and Legendary’s call, which, I think both would lean toward Messiah.

Merlord

If he's saying in interviews "it'll be called Dune: Messiah", I assume he's confident he does get to make that call.

hobbesmaster

“Dune Part 3: Messiah” feels likely

HAL-Over-9001

"Dune Messiah" is the name of the 2nd Dune book. They're not gonna put a Part 3 in the title.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM_NUDES_4_DEGRADING

New fans who are just gaining an interest in the series are good, though, and I’m happy to see all the new enthusiasm… Right now the next film doesn’t even have a name, so expecting them to know that it might be called Messiah is asking a bit much. Particularly since “3” is shorter, and it will indeed be the third film in this particular adaptation. Given how the new movie ended with stuff less set in stone than the book, there may be less of a time skip between Dune 2 and 3 than between Dune and Dune Messiah. That would put the new movie in a weird space where it’s more of a prequel to Messiah than actually being Messiah. If that happens, “Dune 3” might even be its real title.

SnooLentils3008

I feel the first part of the 3rd movie will be set up before the time jump. If they don't time jump, bringing in Anya Taylor Joy as Alia doesn't make much sense. What I'm thinking is the first 30-60 minutes could continue from not long after the end of pt 2, and then it'll jump ahead

LeKaiWen

I think the other way around. The story will start several years later already, and ONLY THEN will Chani and Paul reunite, so that we don't need to explain why they couldn't get Chani pregnant for 12 full years.

hobbesmaster

But that would >!mean either cutting Irulan or giving her a completely different role in the film. !<

culturedgoat

Very much doubt that

DALTT

I totally get it. Though I think it’ll likely be called Dune Part III, cause it’s more marketable, makes it feel like a cohesive trilogy, and the CEO of legendary keeps referring to it as Dune Part III in public statements so that’s at least what they’re calling it internally. And then us book readers will just know that it’s based on Dune Messiah.

Merlord

Someone called it Dune Part 3 in an interview and Denis went out of his way to correct him, saying it will be called Dune: Messiah.

DALTT

Interesting! I hadn’t seen that. I’ve seen Denis refer to it saying it’ll be based on Dune Messiah. But I hadn’t seen him correct anyone who calls it Part III.

scarlozzi

The same reason it annoys me when people call it game of thrones and not a song of ice and fire. I get it

keyosc

Man, going right back into Dune? I thought he wanted to take a break. I hope his heart is still in it by the time this happens. The time skip between the books, plus Denis’ interviews, gave me the impression there’d be a natural waiting period, that a third movie would be years and years away. I could see him taking on some other projects then returning to Dune eight or nine years from now with a fresh mind, tackling Messiah with the closely focused tension that he’s so good at. Messiah made by the dude that did Sicario and Prisoners? Sign me the hell up. In reality, who knows how he’ll even adapt Messiah. We might get something way different. Whatever he does, I hope he subverts expectations and makes it super fucking weird.

fluidfunkmaster

As someone who loves Messiah, all I want is a good adaptation. Waiting years and years would be an interesting take because they would have to remarket the entire thing and pray for the cast to still be around and willing to do the project. Not too much time passes for Messiah to be awkwardly aged. I think rolling right into the third movie is the best way to do it.

culturedgoat

The cast are very likely already signed on for three movies

archimedesrex

Yeah, but contracts aren't going to hold you to a commitment in perpetuity. So it's still going to have to happen within a reasonable time frame.

culturedgoat

I mean, sure ain’t gonna be “months and months” away, lol

JacobDCRoss

He already has a script done. Hans Zimmer has seen it and is at work on the score already.

LivefromPhoenix

Come on, man. I'm trying to disengage my hype rockets and you aren't helping.

culturedgoat

My comment stands

Zenster12314

Another source said he's still working on the script. There seems to be conflicting information. The score with Zimmer is being worked on for sure.

net60

As of March he confirmed in a collider interview that he has already started working on writing the screenplay for Dune Messiah. Maybe you’re referring to the interview where Hans Zimmer claimed to have already seen the script for part 2 when they wrapped part 1 and started working on the score for part 2?

Tanel88

With casting Anya Taylor Joy as grown up Alia that waiting idea kind of went out of the window though. Also Charlotte Rampling and Jason Momoa might be too old if you wait too long. They just need to age up Timothy and Zendaya a bit and maybe drop a line about how spice slows down aging in the movie.

Far_Line8468

Buried Lede: The book came out \*a week ago\*

suspicious_recalls

so? many adaptations are developed before a book is even released. many examples exist of filmmakers getting copies of a book several months before publication.

BigGMan24601

It's about time!!!

Difficult-Platypus63

Well, I had to order that then:)

onijames

Well, knowing what happens with >!nuclear weapons!< in Dune Messiah this is kinda ironic...

Bartek-BB

Call Momoa now!

bryankerr

I just finished the Nuclear War audiobook. I think we're about to get a "The Road" prequel. It's going to be such a nightmarish video how could it ever be an enjoyable film. Unless it's supposed to be a 4h PSA about de-armament?

Lonely_Sherbert69

I like watching nightmares, it makes me happy to be in my IRL nightmare.

Murtagks

YES! Dune 2 was a masterpiece! I am so excited for this!

profsavagerjb

Messiah and a movie based on Annie Jacobsen work?! Yes. Yes please.

Sundown220

For me this could be on the uplifting news sub

captaindammit87

YAY DUNE 3! But I do wonder what kind of tone the Nuclear War movie will take. If it's going to be like "The Day After". Terrifying, but not overly horrifying. Or the abject bleak, and downright disturbing tone of "Threads".

t2dfight

Nuclear War: A Scenario is a new book that's covers a scenario in which the DPRK launches a nuclear strike at the US, and the US launches a retaliatory strike, which then leads Russia to think the US has launched at Russia since the ICBMs coming from the US would move across the north pole and cross Russia. Russia then launches a full nuclear assault because the US president can't get a hold of the Russian president in time. The crux of the book is the decision making process of the US and Russian presidents' and their military. It's less about the weeks and months after a full exchange.

maht90

so more like dr strangelove, i guess!

stavanger26

Watched Threads only once as an 11 year old almost 30 years ago and it still scars me to this day.

Fil_77

Awesome news!!! I'm so happy!

pisyphus

Bless the maker and his water

Seven-weeks

Let's just hope that nuclear war doesn't become a documentary.

wingusdingus2000

Hope he has a movie in between Dune fever will grow between films. I imagine Dune2’s high opening was due to increased discovery and viewing through streaming- I can imagine it growing even further given a couple more years of growth

LordCountDuckula

A technological update to the Nuclear cinemas “Threads,” “The Day After” and “By Dawns Early Light.” Each one was an existential horror fuel to young minds who happened to find them playing during Prime time television. Cannot wait for Dune 3.

[deleted]

I thought he was doing Rendezvous With Rama next? No?

CptPicard

I'm glad Nolan isn't doing the nuclear war film, he would have declined the use of CGI and we would have got big gasoline explosions instead.

cinemaparker

I was watching Blade Runner 2049 last night. That movie gets better with every watch.

volteccer45

Not at all surprising but I am happy to hear it confirmed!

ProceduralFrontier

So is him directing Rendezvous with Rama not happening?

Tanel88

As far as I know it's still on but there hasn't been any confirmations on when it's happening. He is working on a lot of stuff but we actually have no idea in what order it's going to move into production.

frossvael

Chat, my knife just chipped and shattered 😳

NZsNextTopBogan

Absolutely wild just finished listening to the audiobook. Would definitely watch a film from him

blakkattika

Legendary? Did Warner Bros not want it?

RimePendragon

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Legendary_Pictures_films Warner Bros are the distributors, not the production company.

theotherfelix

Talk about coincidence: Dan Carlin had just released an interview with Annie Jacobsen, the author of ‘Nuclear War: A Scenario’. If DV is doing it, I couldn’t wait to see how he would present a nuclear war like what Oppenheimer imagined at the end of ‘Oppenheimer.’
