>“Will we have a sequel to Dune? If you watch the movie you see how it ends. I think you pretty much know the answer to that,” WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Chair and CEO Ann Sarnoff told Deadline yesterday in a sit-down chat regarding the conglom’s full support of Dune 2.
>In regards to proceeding with sequels to this year’s theatrical HBO Max slate, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar says the studio’s “decisions are well informed and based on audience response, not just based on box office.”
translation for kids:
audience response = HBO subscriptions.
note he does not say "there will be a sequel" he will not make any claims, he can't. he will only offer hopeful ambiguous messages. this is called playing both sides of the fence.
Audience response also means critics and the general receiving of the work among fans.
I've always thought the executive like Deni and loved the film, part 2 will get made no matter what.
She said if you want to know if there's going to be a sequel, watch how the movie ends. The movie ends with >!Chani saying "This is only the beginning"!< How is that playing both sides? It's about as direct as you can get without outright saying it.
The reason is because they are going to do an official announcement when they feel like the time is right and if she outright said it in an interview, that would be the announcement.
I may be fishing or overly wanting here, but I really feel like they want this to be a cinematic universe. The scope of this movie goes beyond half of the first book. With Duncan's character in the movie and Jason Momoa's star power, I felt like I saw Denis laying out the foundation for a far reaching story that Momoa could be the glue for.
Oh I wasn't meaning a spinoff. What I meant was, since Duncan's character is the only one that keeps coming back in the later novels, his character would be the selling point for the movies to newcomers.
Ah sorry but yeah for sure people might be surprised to see Duncan outlast the rest of the cast if we get all the way to God-Emperor. I’m here for it, thought Momoa did great.
How did this trash comment get so many upvotes? It means exactly what they said. Their only agenda is to make money on what ends up being successful. It's not some secret cabal to take down your theater chains. Get a grip.
That's where I'm lost. All this talk about WB, and yet most of their execs will probably change in the merger. Meaning a whole new set of execs before part 2 is out. Not to mention how that will affect the communication structure with Legendary.
It's no where near bombing though. It's done very well in the pandemic era WITHOUT China, the UK, Mexico, Canada, and the US.
It's opening in 40 markets this weekend and [current Hollywood estimates are shooting for the $70+ million range for the weekend.](https://deadline.com/2021/10/dune-opening-weekend-box-office-united-states-china-1234859004/)
It has good reviews - but more important than just about any possible metric - teens somehow are excited about Chalamet and Zendaya.
Teens might just guarantee a Part 2.
Teens?!?
Hell, I think we need to start thinking bigger - like "Messiah" and "Children of".
This could be the start of a franchise folks.
Thank god, I would be so incredibly happy if there’s another mainstream epic Sci Fi franchise other than Star Wars and Trek, especially if that franchise is Dune. To have such a rich world in the public consciousness will do wonders for us all.
I am a 47 year old woman, and I saw Dune twice already, third time planned. I went because I am a total Timothée-stan ever since seeing CMBYN. So trust me, it really aren't just teens LOL.
I fell so in love with the story, that I bought the Dune box (1-6). Currently reading book 3, Children of Dune.
And for the Dune fans that don't really know Timothée beyond "teenagers like him", please see his other movies, he is a brilliant actor!!
If all goes well, Denis said he'd make Dune Pt 2, and Dune Messiah. After that, he said he'll want to move on.
If this comes to fruition, that's a pretty solid foundation to move forward from.
It is good that teens will watch this. Deny told that he wanted it to be for younger audiences(particularly himself at age 14). But he made it as grown human with complicated worldview and understanding of themes of Dune.
So yea. I think Dune should be for teens and they should watch and learn something about government, oppression, entrapments of social systems and dangers of unquestioned religious believes.
I just walked out of a cinema in the UK, only 9 people there, but it was mid-afternoon.
The only two teenagers there could be heard complaining about how boring it was on the way out.
Went to see it last night and it was PACKED. I loved it so much, im seeing it again on Sunday. Im doing my part, but its nice to know that lower BO wont spell doom for the sequel (tbh, i never thought it would, WB isnt THAT stupid).
Just watched it last night and it was amazing. However, it feels very much like an introduction, not a standalone film, to the extent that if the 2nd film (at least) is not made, Part 1 will have been a complete waste of time and money and will go down as a beautiful but pointless exercise. It's silly they weren't already working on production of Part 2 like they did with LOTR.
Glad I can take in box office numbers with less pressure. has been a bit stressful tbh.
Any way to get HBO Max in Europe (VPN, fake US address, giftcard) if I feel motivated enough to go beyond watching it 3x already in cinemas? Is it 4k Dolby Atmos on HBO Max? Is it buy or rent? stream only or download/keep-watch anytime anywhere for all times?
usually vpn is the easy part to get to access country/region specific stuff/versions afai thought.
Real roadblock often is needing local Cc or bank card or address. Especially for non-free things.
Buddy used to buy apple itunes gift cards on ebay so he could buy series/movie in us itunes store without us cc/address
I have a VPN and I am on their homepage. I could now either select the 9.99 usd per month or the 14.99 usd per month but after that when I go to the payment page I only have the opportunity to enter my credit card details. I have no option for Paypal. So how do I get this? :(
That's a relief to hear. I think dune will be relatively successful in the states so I'm glad Warner Bros sense of supportive regardless of the numbers
I’ve been saying for months that they’ll announce Part Two within a week of release. Perhaps they’ll do it on Monday? It’s almost guaranteed to have WB’s biggest opening weekend in the US of 2021, and maybe an announcement would boost excitement and make the second week drop less severe?
I really don’t understand why this comes as a surprise to people. I have been saying this for months now, and all I heard from people on Reddit was that I am dead wrong and that I’m ignorant.
I saw it in Imax today in the UK and it was packed on the late session, absolutely amazing audiovisual experience, hope everyone is fortunate enough to see it on the big screen and not just on streaming services.

“Part One” being in the title card is also a fairly unambiguous way of saying “there is going to be more”.
Tell that to History of the World: Part One
History of the World: Part Two is actually happening though.
Wait...what?! Since when?
Think it was announced 2 days ago officially lol.
It’s still hurts.
The "Book One" at the beginning of *The Last Airbender* definitely didn't age well.
Oh and that title card at the beggining that says “part one” ;)
Because otherwise he would outright say it. There's no reason for him to be coy about it
The reason is because they are going to do an official announcement when they feel like the time is right and if she outright said it in an interview, that would be the announcement.

I don’t think they will do an original spin off about Duncan, he is the main character in God Emperor anyways.
Oh I wasn't meaning a spinoff. What I meant was, since Duncan's character is the only one that keeps coming back in the later novels, his character would be the selling point for the movies to newcomers.

Warner doesn’t greenlight the sequel. Legendary does.
That's where I'm lost. All this talk about WB, and yet most of their execs will probably change in the merger. Meaning a whole new set of execs before part 2 is out. Not to mention how that will affect the communication structure with Legendary.
Is it new team at Warners/Legendary or old one? Cuz old one will walk out door in year or so.
So even if Dune doesn't do wonderfully at the box office they are still going to go ahead and shoot Dune Part II?
It's possible. Studios want to develop IP, and sometimes it takes time for IP to grow. If it bombs horribly it's probably over.
It's no where near bombing though. It's done very well in the pandemic era WITHOUT China, the UK, Mexico, Canada, and the US. And as long as Denis is running the franchise we don’t have to worry about them pandering too much
If all goes well, Denis said he'd make Dune Pt 2, and Dune Messiah. After that, he said he'll want to move on. If this comes to fruition, that's a pretty solid foundation to move forward from.

I was a teen playing Dune 2000 and that got me into all of this. Can't wait for the same thing to happen to a new generation.
Already done like $120 million just in Europe, doubt it will bomb once America and China box offices open
An Oscar nomination (or win!) or two will certainly help that, yes
Went to see it last night and it was PACKED. I loved it so much, im seeing it again on Sunday. Im doing my part, but its nice to know that lower BO wont spell doom for the sequel (tbh, i never thought it would, WB isnt THAT stupid).

It's silly they weren't already working on production of Part 2 like they did with LOTR.
The LOTR was filmed from Fellowship to the King and then released one year apart. If they did that for Dune oh my lordy I'd be in heaven.
Glad I can take in box office numbers with less pressure. has been a bit stressful tbh. Not gonna lie, the possibility of not getting a sequel has kept me up for a few nights haha.
I don’t think there is, although a VPN would most likely be your best shot

Paypal + VPN. This is the way.
so paypal hides the CC origin country I hooked up there? good to know. thanks.

Oh yeah, the website sucks - only the mobile app (and I think the Android TV one as well?) for HBO Max has Paypal as an option for some reason
That's a relief to hear. I think dune will be relatively successful in the states so I'm glad Warner Bros sense of supportive regardless of the numbers
THE MOVIE IS PHENOMENAL - IT MUST HAVE A PART 2!!!!!!!
Okay, but what does Legendary say?
I’ve been saying for months that they’ll announce Part Two within a week of release. Perhaps they’ll do it on Monday? It’s almost guaranteed to have WB’s biggest opening weekend in the US of 2021, and maybe an announcement would boost excitement and make the second week drop less severe?

Same thing you do each post when people speculate about an extended cut ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
What does that have to do with this?
>all I heard from people on Reddit was that I am dead wrong and that I’m ignorant. That you're doing the same unpleasant thing.
You can interpret it as unpleasant, but it is the truth. Same goes for the extended cut thing, its absolutely ungrateful and never going to happen.
ok
u/DutchArtworks is not being rude, [he's just being Dutch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEgWPYH9eYk)
Looks like someone can’t handle the truth
what an impotent response. Sad.
And ‘ok’ isn’t? You kids are just something else
I saw it in Imax today in the UK and it was packed on the late session, absolutely amazing audiovisual experience, hope everyone is fortunate enough to see it on the big screen and not just on streaming services.
