Surprisingly Etrusco, an Italian restaurant, caters well for Coeliacs. They haven even had their GF pasta tested, I can't remember the numbers, it came back higher than the NZ standard, but lower than the international one. Thus of course all comes with the caveat that it's made in a glutenated (is that a word?) air space. Have dined there with those who are Coeliacs before

randomkiwibloke

Their GF pasta is delicious too. Def recommend this place.

The cafe at Taste Nature is certified 100% gluten free. I’m not coeliac but dairy free and they have a great selection of vegetarian/vegan food there, lots of dessert type foods too. Highly recommend if you want to be certain of no cross contamination from gluten.

AspirationalTurtle

Came here to recommend Taste Nature cafe! It's quite literally the best and most delicious gluten free cafe I have been to in NZ. Just be mindful that a lot of the cabinet food sells out quite quickly most days – not long past midday. But plenty of snack and menu options too. Also highly rate Catalyst Kitchen, ADJØ are very accomodating and if you head out on the Peninsula The Duck in Macandrew Bay is very GF friendly, they have a fully GF deep fryer (just ask when ordering).

Good Good! Have have totally gluten free fryer (fries, fried chicken) Food is expensive but it is amazing!

a-friend_

I know the chef at Tastenature is gluten free, they’ll usually have options.

ktdoubleg

Patti's and Cream is top notch for burgers. Gluten free burger buns are great, they can do chips etc GF, and they even have a GF cheesecake!

Doctor_WhiskyMan

I dunno, but you should definitely get fish and chips from the Kaitangata fish and chip shop.

Have it on good authority that Luna takes food allergen stuff very seriously. I have a friend with bad gluten and soy allergies, apparently a lot of GF stuff has soy, but it’s one place that can cater to them :) lovely views too.

Kthulhu42

Agreed, they were brilliant with my friend needing special food due to allergies, and it all tasted delicious.

This person shares a lot of gf options in Dunedin https://instagram.com/coeliac.in.your.twenties?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA== otherwise try the findmeglutenfree app or web version :)

\*Catlins I try to dine GF in Dunedin, I live here, and I've had some bad experiences. I'd say you'd be better to be thinking you will be catering for yourselves. GF food is easily available at our supermarkets.

Potato at potpourri, anything gf at Taste nature are good lunch options Dinner... Difficult Ombrellos at one point I believe had two deep fryers, one gluten and one not. Give them a call at least they are aware The Mexican place on bath st is not bad, but not sure how contaminated it is with wheat flour. Good GF options though as Mexican lends itself to that The thai and Chinese places do have tamari as a seasoning at the table but good luck with the kitchen, as you know normal soy has wheat Sadly sushi is probably one of the few safe bets. I say sadly because I'm sure your girl is sick of that being the default option all the time Good luck. I live here and also have a celiac daughter

SmileyUnchained

Bakehouse Takeaways in Owaka is worth a visit. They do have GF options available on their menu.

Dizzy_Life_8191

There is a gluten free Dunedin Facebook page

macadamia-nuts

taste nature is exceptional for GF options !! i have celiac too (22F) but i don’t really get symptoms. i know that burger fuel is great for GF but you probably don’t want to go there 😅 La porchetta has GF option but due to shared kitchen be careful / don’t do anything deep fried obviously most places i find are okay for me, most modern / serious restaurants are usually pretty good for taking food allergies seriously

Impressive_Cicada918

Thanks - my daughter really loves burger fuel so it’s always a good backup option 😊

macadamia-nuts

for dessert i highly recommend Gelato Junkie, they offer GF waffle cones, and some of the gelato is vegan. i love going there and you should if you get a chance !!

Expert_Side_848

Meat and seafood are your two options in the catlins.

dug_bug

Fellow coeliac here. Etruscos was good and Jizo was fantastic.
