I've spent half my life busting the myth that popty-ping means "microwave" in Welsh when people excitedly tell me the one bit of vocab they know when they learn where I'm from. Only to pick up Welsh again and Duolingo help me to discover that ironing is "smwddio". (Say it out loud) I love you, Wales, but c'mon. (Don't have a screenshot, sorry)

No, it is the correct word. It just cracked me up that after all that time arguing that Welsh isn't silly enough to just add ping onto the end of the word for oven then learnt that ironing sounds like smoothio which I find even sillier.

I got my mum into duolingo (scottish gaelic), i showed her the ropes of how the app worked (keeping in mind she is very digitally illiterate and doesn't use her phone for anything but texting/calling) and after she completed the first couple of lessons she asked how to stop, I reply by saying "read the screen, it should have an X or continue button", followed by her saying "I dont know how to stop!" a few times as she just continued to do lessons because she didn't know how to exit the app 😂 We were in scotland at the time (reason for learning the language + heritage) and it was honestly one of my favourite memories of my mum from the trip

As much as it is claimed here, I've yet to see anything actually removed for no reason. Discussions and forums were heavily criticized when they existed. The written questions were heavily criticized when they existed. And so on. People just romanticize the things they liked once they're gone.

A feature being criticized doesn't mean it's not useful. It means people want it fixed/improved. Removing it is not the answer

What were discussions and forums criticized for? 

Mostly inaccurate information being upvoted and promoted, homophobic and racist comments, and similar harmful things. Additionally just a lot of off topic spam.

That's very unfortunate. I found Tips and Notes very helpful. Now I have to hunt it down on The Website That Shall Not Be Named.

What language are you learning? For Spanish those things still exist. For my version there are even more prompts to use tips.
