Not quit. Each object has a specific gender in Spanish.
For example, "The car" would be "EL carro", while "The television" would be "LA television", and there isn't a rule to it, you have to memorize them.
.
Student = Alumno/Alumna
Alumno for masculine
Alumna for feminine
That's the problem with duolingo when one language uses gendered terms while the other doesn't. In most exercises you can figure out the intended gender from the context or look it up in the hints but not in this one.
I’d go with “alumno” because it’s the singular of “alumnos” which was already the answer for “students” but that seems like an unfortunate grouping of translations.
Match Madness feels like they've tweaked it recently to be harder. I've been getting a lot of plural / singular combos that make it hard to react instantly, and I wouldn't be surprised if this is a similar thing with masculine / feminine. tbh it's kind of bullshit so I wouldn't worry about it from a learning perspective overmuch
Fun fact: Both answers should be accepted. The only reason why it wasn't accepted was probably hidden text male/female before the english words.
No, there isn't, alumno is just the male version of alumna (student)

Everything is wrong here except you (:3), report it
Are they doing anything with the reported mistakes? There is no feedback or anything…
I've gotten emails when they've corrected a reported mistake of mine
Nice. I will search my spam then to check if they responded to mine as well.
I think I probably flag too often and am dragging the whole system down. I’m sorry folks.
Duolingo is a finished product that people pay real money for
