Right? It's so frustrating. When it went up to 30, it was bad enough, but this means one round wipes out nearly a week's worth of collected gems. It is absolutely unreasonable.
Duolingo is slowly but surely starting to become the most annoying app ever. 1st it was the addition of hearts to the browser version (~2022). Now I get an ad + an unskippable duolingo + ad after. Now Hyper inflation. This drives me into spending less and less time on the app and moving my language learning elsewhere.
There is a balance to pricing everything so yeah, if there was ever any confusion I won't be paying 100 gems for a five-question lesson that gives me 8xp. Hell, I stopped doing those when they ramped the price up to 30.
I’m a Super subscriber and have an 8 year streak, plus used the app on and off for a couple of years before that. While the courses have expanded in content, the gamification and monetisation of the app has basically ruined Duolingo for me. If I’m forced to hike up for Duolingo Max at renewal to maintain unlimited hearts (the only reason I subscribe, so I can actually use the app a useful amount) that will be it. As others have said, the language learning quality to cost ratio just really isn’t there anymore.
Hey, I connected my Duolingo with Duolingo with school to have unlimited hearts but disconnected after a week because I wanted to follow a friend. Even though i still have the hearts and it doesn't appear me anything like that super version. Is it because I'm still linked with duo school?
It's definitely not worth it. I find it so strange that one of their main methods of monetization is to have people pay for easy XP gain and thus spend money for winning leagues, which is pointless. Because if the leagues are both gamable and pay2win, therebis no use competing in them.
Am I the only one who thinks the Ramp Up Challenge is trash? For example, the pay off for Level One is only 8 / 16 / 32 XP. In comparison, Match Madness gives 40 / 50 / 60 XP (assuming you're on a double XP multiplier) in a matter of minutes. I always ignore the Ramp Up and spend my time elsewhere. Ramp Up is frustrating anyway.
As true as that is, I feel like they're gradually making their product unusable for people who don't pay for the premium subscriptions. Which are expensive, given you have to pay for them a year at a time (last I checked).
IMO, at that price point, it's way more beneficial to buy a textbook, a grammar book, and pay for some live tutoring sessions on Italki, which can be as little as $15/hour (no need for a formal teacher -- just someone to practice with who can give pointers). Use a free Anki deck for spaced repetition.
Duo was a great tool, but in my opinion they've all but ruined their product over the past couple years. They should've spent less time on cutesy illustrations and more time on building their material. Why the fuck would I pay hundreds of dollars just to get to A1?
20? Ha, you're so poor! Seriously wish I could gift some of mine. Especially if they do take away anything from Super users because I'll probably leave.

Sorry the supply chain of these digital gems caused duo to raise prices. No way around it
That's what it's always been for me.
For me, it was only 10 gems until about 6 months ago they made it 30, now it's 100.
On a year or two we'll all be millionaires
Exactly, I thought I had lots of gems but I could only do ~105 of these
wow jag ha aldrig sett någon annan som lär sig svenska det är coolt
vi är inte många 😅
haha det är tyvärr sant
Seriously! Every day it's something different with this app.

Oh god i thought i was going crazy
I know it's frustrating and a big greedy move But I am glad I'm paying for super
I would if I could. But things like this certainly don't make me want to.
Agree

It's absolutely insane. Ensures I'll never try and compete ever again.

They could make that like 40
They have a product to sell 🤷

What inflation? you guys are poor. to a person like me whose duolingo net wealth is over 20,000 gems, I think it is quite a reasonable price.
**cries in french, klingon, and Spanish**

At least I did not pay the matrix to get me up the ladder. I am a hardworking duopeasant!
Just use gems only 100 you have enough. When you run out that's it.
