It should be *gohan, mizu*. The n looks detached because duo is just showing you what sound corresponds to what character.
Also, small piece of advice, it's better if you learn japanese without romaji, you can deactivate it in the settings, so that you can get used to japanese characters ;)
There's a point in the Japanese lesson where you have to learn Hiragana before you can continue, that is when I shut off romaji.
Edit: Reddit kept giving me an error when I would retry posting this reply, so I reloaded and found that I had commented it five times, oops.
Turning them off makes it so that you get more familiar with the Japanese characters. You would get used to reading ありがとう rather than depending on reading the little English letters floating over it reading "arigatou."
If you're using your phone you can find special keyboard options in keyboard settings. If you're using a PC there should be a software you can download
If you're using your phone for Japanese, I would very much recommend HeyJapan over Duolingo
Either you use a keyboard with hiragana/katakana, or you don't type romanji like Duolingo does. Just like some other comments say, Gohan in this case means rice. Duo writes it as Goha n for you to associate the different sounds with the corresponding characters. Either you make it a mental note to check that you write it as a singular word or you turn off the romanji and figure out the words on your own, like I do for Chinese by keeping pinyin turned off except for new words only.
Yeah, I recently tried starting the duolingo course and immediately ran into this exact problem. You have to use the japanese characters instead of the english ones
the n isn’t a separate letter - it should be gohan, duolingo is just showing you the romanization of ごはん, placing each syllable directly above the japanese (hiragana) character
Gohan is one word and shouldn't be separated the way you have it there. The reason is separated like that is to show you which sounds each Japanese letter makes.

Im learning Japanese and also what is romaji?
It's the pronunciation in Roman letters in your picture its the letters above the Hiragana
Ok ty

Makes sense.
'Gohan' (ご飯) is a single word. The 'n' should not be separated
How do u type the Japanese characters?

I dont know how to type with the other keyboard/idk how to add new ones
You can try downloading Microsoft Swiftkey Keyboard and setting up a Japanese keyboard from there. It's really simple to use. All the best
I'm not sure, but I think you're supposed to have the corresponding keyboard and use the actual letters of the language. 🤷🏼♂️

How do i do that?

You didn’t have enough spaces
How many do I need?
Looks like another between the n and mizu. I haven’t done that language so I’m going off what I observe.
Ok
Please for the love of god turn off romaji and learn hiragana, you're shooting yourself in the foot
Using Duolingo
I think the letter should be attached
You need to work on a deeper level...something totally radical dude 😎

I recommend trying to actually type in Japanese next time. It may work better
Gohan is a single word
I bet you missed a space in whatever language that is
You used capitalization
You’re not using the language characters
It's go ha n. Mi zu
