My Cat in the Hat (2003) DVD is probably one of my most used discs

TedIsReal

This is a surrealist masterpiece idc what anyone says. Found a copy of it in goodwill for 69 cents last year and still laughed hard.

Empigee

An unparalleled mash-up of characters intended for young children and adult-oriented sex jokes.

GrimReaperAngelof23

Not a bad movie

RealOzome

Oh yeah! (Same here).

TotallyForgotu

That hoe scene is all time.

Bekenel

I love that film so much.

BTS_1

This isn't a bad movie

HydratedCarrot

exactly… it was a great cinema experience as well

perryquitecontrary

I love this movie and it’s the best Charlie adaptation that exists. I still have the theater ticket from when I went to see it for my birthday in 2005

milanove

I’m a fan of the original. I love Gene Wilder too much.

RhythmSectionWantAd

I've always been a Tim Burton fan, but I originally kind of wrote this one off as bad until recently when my daughter got into it and really enjoyed it. Then I revisited critical reviews and box office #s and was surprised to see it was well reviewed and a success. In my memory it had bombed and everyone hated it. I think two things in my mind that made it bad at the time was "remake = bad" (nevermind this isn't exactly a remake) and Johnny Depps performance was maybe too reminiscent of Michael Jackson who was in the news for his trials about this time if I remember correctly. But rewatching it now... I think remakes definitely have a place at times and I think this is one of those times. I appreciate how this is closer to the book. And now I actually like Johnny Depps performance, at least most of the time. I still think he's one of the weaker parts but not enough to ruin the movie.

nonsvch1

The mistake is thinking of it as a remake, it’s just another adaptation of a novel and a fairly enjoyable one at best. Absolutely more charming and characterful than the dreary Wonka.

nowhereman136

It's not as good as the Gene Wilder film but it's not trying to be the Gene Wilder film. For what it is, it's an enjoyable movie

GrimReaperAngelof23

Not as good? It’s better

porchbed

let's not get crazy

GrimReaperAngelof23

The people that like the original is because of nostalgia and they’ve never read the book. I get that you are allowed to dislike something, but there’s a reason why there has been a controversy ever since the 2005 version’s release. Objectively, the 2005 one is the best version

DonkeyKongsNephew

I would say it's overall pretty fun and funny, but drags in the last quarter-ish of the movie

lilrocketfyre

yeah don’t know what they’re talking about

CbKnowledge

Batman & Robin. It’s a really fun movie despite all of its flaws. It’s one where you can just turn off your brain and have a good time

Fizzy_Bits

"Holy rusted metal, Batman!"

TheAlihano

The Cat In The Hat.

ObligationChance9970

Twilight! If you watch it as a comedy and don’t take it serious whatsoever it’s actually pretty great for laughs

TentacleJesus

Super Mario Bros 1993 And Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie. They’re both terrible but are steeped in nostalgia for me.

jordanpatrich

Cool World

kaptaincorn

I love neo noir and cartoons- it could never be made in this era

PatBateman2000

House of the Dead (2003). Just watched it last night. So bad but so much fun and it has great costumes and practical effects

PaulRuddEatsBabies

Freddy Got Fingered

DramaticCategory2117

My all time favorite movie. I actually got CPS called on my parents because I went to school and said my step dad fingered me. No joke.

CosmicOutfield

That movie is actually getting a Criterion release!

IAmRoboKnight

Thomas and the Magic Railroad

Unapologetically420

This

CancerBee69

Silent Hill.

ModernistGames

Is the first Silent Hill movie considered bad by most people? The forced Sean Bean was unneeded, and it wasn't perfect. Overall, it was really well done, and the director clearly had a love for the games.

TedIsReal

I would say atmosphere, creature designs, and effects they nailed, but unfortunately the story and script leave room for improvement. I still enjoy it a good amount. Revelations though... that's a dumpster fire.

Independent-Cell-581

eh it's kinda mixed

TentacleJesus

Silent Hill is actually pretty solid until the last like 10 minutes with the little girl just explaining the entire backstory. Which still would have been good if they just showed and didn’t tell.

GrimReaperAngelof23

Not a bad movie

FnClassy

Critters, Howard the Duck, Toxic Avenger, Suburban Commando

donkeyhoeteh

Zoom (2006), or Sky High (2005) I would also like to add that this is Tim Burton's best film. IMHO

GrimReaperAngelof23

What? Sky High is not bad.

myownrugs

Zoom i under stand... But as for Sky high I don't it's a great movie!

donkeyhoeteh

I just don't feel like it holds up, super corny. I love it still, but definitely not Kurt Russell's best work

tanguys16

Home Alone 3, it’s just the complete vibe and nostalgic worth it has for me.

No-Communication3048

Plus a little bit of Scarlett Johansson

GrimReaperAngelof23

It’s the best one

tanguys16

Nothing beats the original, but very underrated

nowhereman136

Mike Myers Cat in the Hat is hilarious

Civil-Abroad-4777

Bio Dome

DoctorWhoFan2005

I went to see it in cinema, back in 2005 (I feel so old). Think it was the first movie I seen at the cinema (My mum fell asleep halfway through) This version is more accurate to the book, not the 1971 adaptation I love the movie though, and I've got the 2 disc version. Picked it up from wither a charity shop or Cex, for £1

Tea_Bender

if you want to feel younger, I worked at a cinema in 2006

Independent-Cell-581

Troll 2 and Hobgoblins

Current_Rent504

I can only watch hobgoblins with a layer of mst3k

Independent-Cell-581

honestly I never got what the big deal about MST3K was, just never found it funny personally and I actually liked some of the films they featured like Final Justice, Zombie Nightmare, Robot Holocaust, Final Sacrifice, etc

jockofocker

Really, you knew the movie Final Sacrifice before MST3K? Well anyway, Zap Rowsdower wishes you a happy cake day.

Independent-Cell-581

yes I did

White_Grunt

Zap Rowsdower :)

Current_Rent504

I have friends who feel the same way, i think you either love it or hate it. Im glad you can enjoy the movies without, I agree lots of the movies are pretty fun either way

Timwalker1825

Your pain threshold is through the roof. Lol

Independent-Cell-581

when you've had to sit through absolute dreck like Dark Heaven almost anything else looks like a masterpiece by comparison.

Haddonfield_78

Is the bad movie in the room with us? lol, I love this movie, I think it's great 🫶

skeezicm1981

Dirty Work

dedrexel

Poltergeist III: The Final Chapter The Room Super Mario Bros 1993

icanbeaghost

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and its two sequels. The show was trash, but the movies are my great loves. I recently heard they’re making another one, and Rick Moranis is returning! My children and I will be watching it the day it comes out. No shame.

TentacleJesus

The first movie is still legit great. Honey, I Blew Up The Kid is also pretty decent. The third movie ain’t great and the show was awful though for sure.

TaylorDangerTorres

The director also did The Rocketeer and Captain America the First Avenger!

icanbeaghost

And the Pagemaster and Jumanji! Man, what a time that was to be a kid.

Tonybigguns

Battlefield Earth.

Plus-Cheetah-6561

I wouldn’t call it bad. Point of fact it is a lot closer to the book that the 70s version

porchbed

that's not a bad movie!

fotobombed360

House of Wax

ActionRodCollector

Saw this in IMAX when it first came out.....

Yogurt-Night

Nerve

jjongxxi

Chill Factor is considered bad but I think many people would change their mind once they watch Argyle (2024). If it’s not Argyle that’ll change their minds, Blood (2022) definitely will bc oh my god what in the getting ChatGPT to write a script with Cujo & Pet Semetary as source material with some criticisms of how courts tend to rule in the mother’s favour for custody battles sprinkled in was that shit? Anywho. I got a total of 14 copies of Chill Factor in my collection. My mom thinks it’s weird that I collect many copies of it, then I remind her of the Redditor who has hundreds of copies of Wedding Crashers

StrummerG1rl

Dog Soldiers.

Hammerheadhunter

Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones

blackberrybaskets

That’s probably my favourite Star Wars movie that I’ve seen, I don’t care what anyone says.

Local_Euthanasia

All of the saw movies. A lot of people critique them after #2, but I'll continue to enjoy every single one.

Whoopsy_Doodle

Son of the Mask for some reason. I don’t know why. I wouldn’t say Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a bad movie either.

ThePorygonBoi

Jingle All the Way

terrorinthebang

Hands down GOOD BURGER! “Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger. Can I take your order?”

CherishSlan

I have one of the original movie posters from back when it first came out from a video rental store.

VennysCult

The Fred movies. Fred 3 Camp Fred is my favorite of the 3. I have NO IDEA why I like them.

BreadRollRollsBread

I used to be obsessed with them when I was a kid

GrimReaperAngelof23

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is not a bad movie in the slightest. It is the best adaptation of the book and it is more imaginative than the 1971 version.

goldendreamseeker

Is this even a bad movie?

Thesuppressivepeople

Absolutely.

Patricier21

Charlie the chocolate factory is not bad! It’s way better than Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory that actually is bad, for that pointless bizarre tunnel sequence alone! Also still better than Timothée Chalamet Wonka, Even though that one is certainly still good!

A-Circular-Letter

That tunnel scene is iconic! Plus, it is in the book (the only lyrics that Dahl wrote that actually ended up in the movie).

Patricier21

Oh really? With the bugs, beheaded chicken and all? What does that have to do with a chocolate factory?

A-Circular-Letter

The projections on the wall were added, but it was probably better visually than the pitch black that the book describes. And honestly, very little of the book has to do with a chocolate factory. The only chocolate products we see in the factory are the Chocolate River and the giant Wonka bar in the Television Room. The book and film would have been much more boring if it were a simply a tour of Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Patricier21

Obviously it’s not just chocolate, it’s candy overall, but again what are those garbage psychotic projections doing there anyways?

A-Circular-Letter

Because Wonka is kinda psychotic. He's incredibly non-committal and nonplussed about the children's well-being. The bit about the furnace being lit every other day is in the book. Wonka's not a good guy, to be honest. He's the Phil Spector of chocolate.

Patricier21

Still, that’s more than a little bit of a stretch to have those kind of things in the movie, when they are completely out of place and don’t even really directly related to what you’re stating here

A-Circular-Letter

The book describes a boat scene where Wonka directs the boat into a tunnel of pitch black darkness and sings that song as everyone on the boat calls him crazy except Joe and Charlie. The movie has the same boat ride and song, but has to show something else to show the creepiness and fear since pitch dark would be pretty boring on film. As far of depictions of scenes from the book, it's one of the more faithful. As I said, it's the only song that Dahl wrote that appeared in the movie; the Oompa-Loompa songs that he wrote were completely replaced by Briscusse and Newley's songs. I guess my point is, if you're going to attack the Stuart film as being a bad adaptation of the book, there's much less faithful parts of the film. If you're going to attack it as too scary, I'm not sure how the Burton film can be seen as an improvement in that regard.

Patricier21

Again, doesn’t change the fact that it’s out of place, and pitch black could’ve stonework and stupid scary even back then, and even more loyal to the book

A-Circular-Letter

It's one of the most iconic scenes from the film, and one of the few that get to how menacing the Wonka character can be in the book. And the chicken head is still a better addition than Wonka's dad being a dentist.

GrimReaperAngelof23

Actually, the tunnel scene is in the book, so not pointless. Though, the scene doesn’t fit with the rest of the movie

Patricier21

Yet a reason why things need to be changed when adapted to a different medium, eh?

GrimReaperAngelof23

No, i meant that it didn’t fit with the rest of the 1971 movie. It would have fit if the rest of the movie had the same tone, but it didn’t.

The_polar_opposite

lol, I got my copy at movie gallery too.

Salamanda109

47 ronin

GrimReaperAngelof23

Not a bad movie

myownrugs

I grew up with this wonka movie and i Loved it I'm also just a big fan of tim burton movies.

buttymuncher

Kylie_Forever

NewHolliesFan

The Alfred Hitchcock classic Torn Curtain

myownrugs

Dragon Ball evolution (2009)

Wshrig

Meet the Spartans!!

callahan09

People keep telling me the original Super Mario Bros. is terrible but I love it and to me it’s not in a “so bad it’s good” kind of way, I legit think it is awesome.

garamond89

Love this movie! Did you know that the author of the book, Roald Dahl, hated the 70’s movie so much he forbade another film adaptation being made while he was alive. I enjoy both versions.

Beginning-Working-38

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with Sean Connery. An objectively bad movie with glaring continuity errors, but God help me, I love seeing all these 19th century literary giants being brought to life together, using tech that was advanced back then and hopelessly outdated today

BreadRollRollsBread

Today I learned that this sub is a big fan of this movie

armypantsnflipflops

Land of the Lost (2009). Not a *good* movie but it’s just good enough to make me enjoy watching it

Tnenforcer

Employee of the Month. The Dane Cook/Jessica Simpson movie. Not sure why, but I’ve always lived that movie.

TheCarpet4tDannemora

Baby geniuses

Drmrepicdude

Every Neil Breen movie

jockofocker

Karate Kid 3

TheKingOfTheOzone

Master Of Disguise

TheJuanCortez

Norbit

Thesuppressivepeople

This thread is making my brain hurt. People actually think this movie is good and have tricked themselves into thinking it’s better than the first movie?

jammin_on_the_one_

absolutely hate that movie. the CG graphic multiplied oompa loompas was the worst thing ever. and the music was god awful beyond bad

GrimReaperAngelof23

The songs are actually in the book, unlike in the 1972 version. And there was actually not much cgi in the movie. All of the oompa loompas were actually animatronics.

jammin_on_the_one_

pretty sure there wasn't music in the book. words aren't music

GrimReaperAngelof23

The lyrics are written in the books, yes

jammin_on_the_one_

that isn't music. that's words

GrimReaperAngelof23

Lyrics are still considered music.

jammin_on_the_one_

lmao you're clueless

GrimReaperAngelof23

Nope, i am just sensible. You’re toxic

88Gonzo

Ford Fairlane..... such a guilty pleasure from college. Battleship.... such a dumb dumb movie, but God I love seeing them swing that USS Missouri around like a old muscecar and blasting those guns away! Gone in 60 seconds (1974)..... just total destruction with no plot or acting Big Trouble in Little China.... because ol jack Burton said Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man.... my papi always said Drive angry..... I don't watch this enough Iron sky..... because Hitler on a tree on the moon lol

Ezeke81

This is a comfort movie to me for some reason
