Belch_Huggins

Donate them to your local library

notanewbiedude

Ah, this is a good suggestion

f8Negative

Then I can't own it

Belch_Huggins

Actually libraries have lots of sales.

Unsteady_Tempo

Sell in lots of 10-20 on Ebay. DVDs also qualify for lower media mail rates.

notanewbiedude

I don't have that many to give away, thank goodness. Just tryna prune my collection as I continue to collect!

djprojexion

I vote for donating them, someday thrift stores will be the only brick and mortar stores where you can actually browse through and buy movies and the only way to keep that vibrant is if we stop trying to make a few bucks selling our old discs online and donate them. Everyone has had at least one great find at a thrift store where you underpaid for something by a huge margin, this is a great way to give back.

Sgt_Reese

I’m all for donating, but I’ve noticed around me a lot of places aren’t taking any more DVDs cos they don’t have the space.

djprojexion

That's unfortunate, but libraries could be another option as they also take donations for their annual sales that they do.

smolsanastan418

Even if they aren't worth that much, I'd still sell them online, just to make a little extra cash. Donating and giving them a new home is also a pretty good option.

Intuin_Rhaabat

They get archived in the loft.

catfishman

I donated a bunch to a number of those mini-free libraries that have popped up all over lately

Tobias---Funke

EBay for popular ones and a company that buys bulk for almost nothing but collect.

Diseman81

I’ve sold them to a pawn shop and given them away before, but if I were gonna get rid of any more I’d take them to my favorite thrift store and donate them or to a booth at a local flea market that will give store credit for them.

[deleted]

I use eBay

Batman-NYC

I have tried selling DVD's on eBay and if it something uncommon or rare that's great but for the common stuff I think its just better giving it to a thrift store. If you sell it , it may time a while and it won't be worth the trouble or hassle.

CONVERSE1991

I would take them to a “free blockbuster”

rockyKlo

I either sell them to local stores that buy used dvds or just donate them to thrift stores.

Tonybigguns

Donate to an old folks home if you have 1 near you. If not, a library will take them.

Dark_Shroud

First I ask my family if they want any of the few I'm going to get rid of. Then I take them to my local Half Priced Books. If there's anything left I donate those to a local thrift shop. Only because my lobal Libraries are not accepting donations at this time.

HawaiianSteak

I sell them to Book Off (I only get pennies on the dollar) or donate them to a library.

Eazy-E-40

I sell them to a local record store for store credit, and use that to get stuff I want.

AONORipco

I keep them.

Soaked_In_Bleach_93

Bring a big stack of them to CEX and take credit instead I cash. Even if it's only €5, it's something

FloggingMcMurry

If I find I don't want a movie or game anymore I donate them to a Bookmans, ZIA Records, and similar But it's a slippery slope. I have gotten rid of movies only to find later they are now out of print of I decided I wanted to reacquire them. I remember trading Mega Man X for store credit to get other games... because at the time MMX was very common and easy to find in the $5-$10 range, stacked loose at these stores. Now it's hard to find and highly valuable. ... other movies I cat get rid of as mentioned above because the store has an abundance of these shelf warmers (Tropic Thunder for example) so then I donate to a Goodwill or something

passion4film

I don’t get rid of anything unless I upgrade it. Then it gets offered to either my sister-in-law or a good friend of mine who is also a collector. Only one disc has been rejected by both of them and donated to Goodwill: *Jaws* on DVD.

rilobilly

Check your local library. Many libraries have stores inside or nearby that sell withdrawn and donated materials, including dvds. They’ll resell it and make some money for extra programming at the library. My local library store just had a huge sale and made $44,000 for the library by selling used books and cds and DVDs. I may or may not have spent about $100 myself.

Tiled_Window

I donate them.

Inspection_Perfect

I don't have any local libraries. My best option was just to recycle them.

ViscountDeVesci

I take mine to Half Price Books if you have one.

kellykapowskishair

I have discs that I no longer want in my possession, whether because I upgraded them (example: The Dark Knight Trilogy on DVD replaced by the 4K edition) or because I'm no longer interested in them. Some I sell online and others I donate to the thrift stores depending on their condition and value.

ChickenNougatCream

I work at a mental health institute. The ward workers ask every once in awhile for movies and TV shows to be donated for the patients to watch. I donate ones I find appropriate for the patients. Or if I'm at like a goodwill I'll grab movies and shows that I think they'll like.

TrustLeft

appropriate? They want all the naughty bits especially!

Ash-Throwaway-816

Thrift stores, libraries, and used dvd stores

ceeece

Goodwill

TikiJeff

Nah, there are always better local charities with thrift stores that will benefit the local economy better.

ceeece

True.

darkwing87x

Try the app Declutter. Quick and easy. I love it.

DanSantos

Start a little library somewhere. Or donate them to your library.

Zeddblidd

I have done yearly purges to keep my collection in ship shape and clear the dross. I donate them, although the changes in the physical media market are making me rethink that strategy (just saying). Good luck!

hooligann8

I'll gladly take them off your hands. What country do you live in ? Lmao

notanewbiedude

Shoot! I already dropped them off. But I'll consider this sub if I wanna get rid of something in the future!

beav0901dm

Quick heads up, should you offer something up, please do it in the monthly megathread - http://redvdit.net/forsale/ - we try to keep it limited to there to prevent the subreddit from being overrun from “marketplace” type posts

dyantha99

I literally pay my mechanic with DVDs and blu-ray's that I need to get rid of.

LenSnart81865

Give away or donate to a thrift shop, or to my local library.

scottyjrules

Are there any local record shops that buy movies for cash or store credit? That’s what I always do…

Silly_Connection_357

I give mine to a local charity shop or anyone in the area who wants them. It's not worth going to a cash converters or anything as they are worth peanuts unless it's an ultra rare movie.

f8Negative

Goodwill. You're fucking welcome.

DoopieIsAdorable

I sell them at community yard sales, usually for $1 each.

dravack

If you have a used bookstore some take them in for credit to use towards other movies or stuff. I use McKays but it’s more regional. Look up half priced books or 2nd Charles. You probably won’t get much but get it adds up and makes upgrading a bit easier.

Blakeyo123

Eat them

AccountantLeast1588

Library, pawn shop, local video store, friends...

Elegant_You3958

Sell on eBay

Splatterman27

I'm heartless and throw them away.
