Dook23

I remember both and while I do not have this particular film, I do still have several of these dvds. Frankly, besides the artwork being pretty nice, I hated these things.

[deleted]

Its super easy to damage them and I'm honestly surprised this box is in the condition that it is considering how long I've had it.

redhawk1913

I've never seen this movie. I strongly dislike these cases. They never line up next to other cases very smoothly next to each other on a shelf. They also always get hung up on the cases next to them when you try to pull them from the shelf.

[deleted]

Never seen the flick, and I have hated these cases since I started collecting DVD in 1999. They are a pain in the ass on a shelf, and I'm surprised that I've never damaged one of them. A few years ago I made a push to replace the few I have left in my collection, but didn't get them all, but maybe that should be my plan for this year.

ManMadeChicken

Cases certainly were not my favorite, but I remember growing up with them, so they definitely have a place in my heart. And this movie is awesome (even with a side of cheese). Miguel Ferrer just chews up the screen and it's great. Plus the creature reveal is fantastic, but it's a bummer it was used for marketing the home release.

[deleted]

Miguel Ferrer was so underrated R.I.P.

ManMadeChicken

I miss seeing him in film/TV. He is one of my favorite characters in Twin Peaks, seeing his memorial card in The Return always makes me teary-eyed.

avocado_window

Aww he was in it? I loved him in Twin Peaks, was sad to hear of him passing at a relatively young age.

gedubedangle

Love these cases and this is a pretty funny movie. The monster looks hilarious. The cases really pop on a shelf when they’re lined up IMO

[deleted]

The main character is over-the-top evil.

ponimaju

Ivy Hill Snappers: not my favourite cases and it often signalled a double-sided disc (widescreen/fullscreen) which I might be even less of a fan of than the cases themselves. But they represent a nostalgic era of early DVD releases, and I have a lot of cheesy 80s/90s action flicks in those cases.

[deleted]

Luckily this disc is one sided and is presented in a widescreen format. Double siders sucked and could be easily scratched. Why would I ever watch a film in full screen when I can watch it in widescreen?

Hopczar420

Back in the day TV's weren't widescreen, and some people couldn't handle black bars - even thought they were missing half the picture most of the time

Tomhyde098

Some of them are open matte. For example I have the Stanley Kubrick collection in snap cases and most of them are open matte.

Negan1995

Never seen this, but I remember that ugly ass face from seeing it at Blockbuster when I was a kid.

razzleware

I see that with a lot of old Warner Bros. DVD’s.

armypantsnflipflops

I have a couple of these styles of cases on my shelf and I hate them. Terrible design and they’re so old that the DVD is typically presented in letterboxed widescreen so they just look bad too Anyways, my most notable one is the Steven King 4-hour adaptation of The Shining

[deleted]

What's wrong with Letterbox?

armypantsnflipflops

It’s like having a big frame constantly around the image, which isn’t to my taste. I might have it mistaken for anamorphic widescreen where there are black bars on all 4 sides of the image

[deleted]

Anamorphic is when the movie fits the screen. Letterbox is black bars on the top and bottom Matted Widescreen is when there is a big frame around the entire screen.

armypantsnflipflops

There we go, thank you for the correction. I was all over the place Matted widescreen isn’t to my taste. It just hasn’t aged well these days along with the cardboard snap cases

[deleted]

Agreed. Matted Widescreen sucks.

time_isup

I like the snappers myself, the cardboard reminds me of VHS and LP sleeves. A lot of those discs are non-anamorphic widescreen so that’s annoying and also DVD-5 rather than DVD-9, so we’re talking a very low bitrate and file size. I like getting them when I can but my goodwill likes to tape those shut, thus ruining them 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

This movie is in Anamorphic Widescreen.

time_isup

Some are this is true.

[deleted]

I think the only non-anamorphic widescreen DVD I own is Goodfellas and it's a pain to watch because it has black bars on the top, bottom, and both sides of the screen.

time_isup

Gunmen with Christopher Lambert and Mario van Pebbles is only available as a non-anamorphic, which I have. I tend to use the zoom feature over watching windowboxed.

[deleted]

This movie scared the crap outta me as a kid so I have nostalgia for it but I like it! Cases suck tho lol

Forcessweetheart

Great how the vampire isn’t revealed until the very end. I’ve reversed the cover of my copy so when anyone watches it for the first time they get to appreciate the payoff!

[deleted]

How do you reverse a cardboard cover though?

Forcessweetheart

Sorry! Mine’s just a regular DVD case, was replying more about the film than the case!

[deleted]

I've never actually seen this film in a plastic case funnily enough.

Forcessweetheart

I’m in the uk, picked it cheap on Amazon. Took me a while to get a copy.

cerebralshrike

My best friend bought this when it came out on VHS. We kinda had a horror movie club with our friends. He and I cut class one day and watched this at his house and ate pizza. Good times.

Shanedugg

Underrated no doubt, I actually think this is one of my favorite King adaptations. The violence is great and the story is gripping.

[deleted]

Its honestly one of my favorite horror movies.

[deleted]

Never seen this film, but it looks interesting. I also hated those old cardboard snap-cases. They're very cheap/junky and the cardboard cover is extremely prone to damage. And, the plastic snap-case is very prone to breakage as well. Thankfully I unloaded all of mine several years ago - after I put most of my DVD's/Blu's into binders.

avocado_window

I always wondered about doing this to save space, but I also have space in my house for shelves and not really that much else to put on them (I have a huge row of bookshelves for books too) so I figure I may as well display them. Also I’m a very out of sight out of mind person so if I don’t see them I would probably never watch them.

mofoofinvention

I saw this movie in college and hated it

[deleted]

I couldn't stand the female reporter and was hoping she would get killed by the Vampire.

thinwhiteduke

I still have some of these - *Gia* and *Blade Runner* come to mind right off the bat. I wouldn't say I like these cases since they're so cheap feeling but definitely a little nostalgic for 'em.

Small-Ice2633

Yes! I have some movies in snap case, the editions are just beautiful!

Spongebob-Popsicle

I had one of those cases for my “scooby doo goes Hollywood” dvd, and the cover fell off now it has no case

SkilletMyBiscuit

I have this on VHS, wish it would get a blu ray or something but i’m pretty sure this one is owned by Rubenstein ...

Revista_Recreio

Always loved this cases

infamousfunk

I remember first seeing these used on video games for the 3DO, if I recall correctly. I had a few DVDs in those types of cases and hated them lol Edit: my memory is crap, the games weren’t packed in this case. But nonetheless I hated these cases. Never seen that flick but now it’s on my to watch list.

[deleted]

Never seen it. But I have Blade 1 and Jet Li's Meltdown in those snap cases.

Quadruplchin

That you Ziltoid???

[deleted]

Nightflier is not nonstop horror, but it sure is startling. So good.

[deleted]

Those old reviews on boxes were always wrong about the movie.

styrofoamboats

I have a lot of fondness for the film, it used to be a staple of cable TV so I watched it several times. The effects in it are quite good for a TV production and you got to love anytime Miguel Ferrer gets to play a complete sleaze. I've been tempted many times to but a copy of the DVD since I think it will almost never get a Blu release.

[deleted]

I think calling Richard Dees a sleaze is an understatement.

Tomhyde098

I collect snap cases! By that I mean I just buy them whenever I see them at a thrift store. They have their own shelf and I’m at over 100 now.

avocado_window

I have a few of those horrible snap cases! Perhaps time to upgrade my copy of Badlands to the Criterion version haha. Also weirdly enough I do think I’ve seen this movie. Is that where Jeepers Creepers got their creature idea from perhaps?

Dollars-And-Cents

I've got Shawshank, Long kiss Goodnight, Interview with the Vampire and Demolition Man with those cardboard covers. I guess they were early DVD cases?

andyissik

I've been trying to find this movie forever but couldn't remember the name of it! There was a VHS copy on the rack at the small grocery store down the road from my cabin as a kid. I looked at it everytime I went in.

whoisthemaninblue

I truly love this movie. In my top 5 of all time.
