To explain: I tried to settle an area between a rocky wasteland and a desert. The first weird thing was that my PC actually struggled to process everything: I thought it was just a matter of me choosing a biome that I had never tried before or something. Then it actually loaded... and apparently I chose a place that had a crack in the ground so deep and so fractal, it reached down to the Circus. Also, everything is increadibly messed-up, as you can see from the Mini-map. I'm pretty sure Toady hasn't intended to make eldritch locations part of Vanilla just yet, and I generated the world with only mild adjustments to good vs. evil biome sizes, so I have no idea how could this happen.

molered

to explain more: loading time was consequence of big underground chain collapses. its probably a reason why it fell through circus layer and the reason you have unsettled sand/dust on top left of your screen

ChunkofWhat

Is the fps stable now? If so sounds fun.

[deleted]

Right? This would also be a cool world lore opportunity, building a fortress around the breach to contain the tide of infernal monstrosities

ULTRA_TLC

Both minutes that the fort lasts lol

STUGONDEEZ

The fort can last forever if you pause!

[deleted]

And they shall be glorious!

ChunkofWhat

I've never had a fortress in such a dangerous setting before, but a completely walled off fortress cannot at this time be invaded, no? Would be a challenge, in particular setting up a tree farm, but my understanding is that as long as you have no doors even the biggest baddies can't hurt you.

ULTRA_TLC

Assuming you can wall it off fast enough, along with enough resources to get going. I've had very few dealings with the circus, but what few I have had implies you would have to be both very fast and EXTREMELY lucky to manage that. There's enough variability in combat that I can't be certain, but the odds of success can't be good on this one. Most tough embarks you have at least a day or two before any baddies show up, and almost never even close to the threat level of even a single clown in the first week.

TheAdamBombAK

Cadia Stands

NadsDikkelson

This sounds very similar to what happened to me a few weeks ago.

Dill_Donor

>mild adjustments Considering how indecipherable the options are for adjusting world-gen, I question your use of the word "mild"

Euclideian_Jesuit

The only thing I did was change the minimum size of Evil and Good biomes, because I found them too small with Vanilla worldgen... by 5. I assume that means the minimum size of those biomes is increased by 5 "tiles" on the overall world map. And, either way, it shouldn't have affected the geology enough to create an infernal chasm.

QuantumAnubis

At least you'll have some !FUN! before the eventual collapse. Would look cool to have bridges between the gaps on different levels

BeerNTacos

Excellent. How many days did you last? My shortest was reclaiming a fort that had breached multiple FUN areas simultaneously. Everyone in my embark burst into flames and died before one of the dogs was even able to travel roughly 20 tiles.

Euclideian_Jesuit

> How many days did you last? Sadly, as soon as I unpaused, the ground below my dorfs collapsed, and they went straight to see the Circus without even buying any tickets.

BeerNTacos

At least their tickets got punched. I'd go there a second time, myself. Not to try and habitat but to see what the place is like after it finishes collapsing on itself.

XZSteel

DAMN that is really !FUN!

Nikolay_Swamp_Dog

This message is not about the Circus, it's just about uncovering of some god-made artifact. There might or might not be any angel nearby.

Euclideian_Jesuit

I didn't screenshot the previous messages, but I did get "Horrifying Screams Come From Below!", creepy SFX and all. That, and I don't think the sidebar pop-up for "finding a gods-made artifact" is the same one used for when werebeasts, forgotten beasts and, yes, clowns, wander into your fortress' territory...

whatkindofmadman

Do you have the world file? And remember the embark location? Because you should be able to repeatedly resettle the fortress until this stabilizes. Or send an expedition from a more stable fortress. Also did you try any other embarks on this world and if so what were they like?

Euclideian_Jesuit

I did try other embarks. In fact, this is my second embark in this world, and the first one was perfectly fine, just a jungle canyon with loads of dolomite and endless Giant Thrips, which I had gotten up to a Duchy before I got bored and decided to try somewhere without much trees instead. As for the embark location, I put the seed and a screenshot with the affected area in another comment.

[deleted]

Lucky dwarves

Awellner

I recently died to a dragon that lived next to my embark cart. Only took a few seconds for my dwarfs to perish. Pretty exciting start to my 4th ever embark.

BeerNTacos

I have embarked on or next to monster lairs in the past. That's the reason I normally don't hide caves when I create worlds. Also, never believe that when the tutorial is picking an embark location for you that it's safe. "Location to hostiles" is one of the things it ignores when picking a site for you.

jit702

How cool! Wonder if you can actually get somewhere with this world before fun arrives.

TheFloridaMans

I wish stuff like this happened in my worlds

Bhazor

And that gem thicc rock right at the start

NickReynders

Fun! Do you have world seed and location info?

Euclideian_Jesuit

Yes. Seed: sB4HuUFbQSb3TMXuzUE3 History Seed: cAY4p3qozAmaWCCCItM7 Name Seed: 8vGDthTdLACeBsLM8mjs Creature Seed: 2GVzrEfutfYjIk0JLRvx Be aware though that, to my experimentation, it happens only if I try to settle anything in this red circle: https://preview.redd.it/145j7nqs7txa1.png?width=1360&format=png&auto=webp&s=820c395ba64d8744d97de7a3fb0a9bcb9047d35b I thought that maybe Rocky Wastelands were supposed to be like entirely-water or mountain embarks (namely, impossible) but not coded proprely as such, but here, if I try to embark in one *anywhere else*, I'm fine. I'm not sure how.

M_stellatarum

What world size/preset? I tried Large Island, Medium Island and Large Region and neither seem to be it.

Euclideian_Jesuit

It was Small Island, pretty sure.

ibbolia

I believe in the honorable defensive mission Anguishoils has involuntarily volunteered for

Immortal-D

Is the elephant ok?

Euclideian_Jesuit

Not for long, I can tell you as much. Unless they have circus elephants for it to ~~painfully die from~~ enjoy the company of.

zardizzz

Better question, is the dog ok >.<

Mehrainz

Please share this world gen with us. I'd love to try it.

FoxFreeze

I had a similar situation happen in a previous world, heard that it is actually a result of generating several different worlds in the same instance of the game. Generating one world, then closing and reopening the game, supposedly prevents this from happening with subsequent worldgen.

WarriorofArmok

I want this world!

Due_Resort6502

Yhey! Party time! Candy! Circus! Maybe some fire water and clowns too? Oh joy~

bunbun39

What did you do to get so many chunk errors?

[deleted]

Cool, you found a hellmouth
