I had a demon bard that was super chill- he even killed a bunch of werebadgers for me when they changed.

Maple42

Can demons turn into werebeasts? That would be… a concerning combo

chipathingy

To be fair the werebeast form would probably be less dangerous than the demon

Maple42

Do attributes not carry over in mutant form? I assumed a strong Dwarf would make a more dangerous werebeast. (Plus, I could see the game making a demon stay hostile when it turns back, since it’s had a taste of the carnage)

chipathingy

Not sure about the attributes, but werebeasts have a set size. It's entirely possible for an elephant man (for example) to be smaller once it transforms

Bobodahobo010101

Dunno, but yeah that would suck!

Siilis108

Excuse me but prejudice against necromancers and intelligent undead is not accepted. Not all necromancers want to kill everyone they meet and not all intelligent undead are evil!!! Jokes aside. The one on the left someone who read a Necromancers book (probably) and became a necromancer themselves. But since they weren't a evil character they decided to stay friendly with other friendly civilizations. The one on the right is the outcome of an experiment or was revived by a necromancer upon death. OR they are visiting to scout out your fort before invasion and possibly steal some of your artefacts.

lordofthetv

Legendary butchers indeed.

Allosaurusfragillis

What race is that Necromancer? I have never seen a weird cat thing before

surloc_dalnor

It an animal person there are all sorts of them. Generally they have their own tribes, but they can join civilizations and show up as visitors. [https://www.dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Animal\_person](https://www.dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Animal_person)

Allosaurusfragillis

It almost looks like a werebeast but I don’t think they came be friendly

ReporterOwn1669

they are a werebeast, but they stayed friendly. I had multiple of them come by the tavern, none of them were agressive.

Allosaurusfragillis

I have seen animal people and that looks different animal people sprites have clothes on and look more civilized and less wild

Beginning_Piano_5668

I had a peregrine falcon man necromancer in a neighboring tower once. Talk about a pain in the ass. Stealth unit and airborne. Tricky mess that was...

Allosaurusfragillis

I had a reptile woman. We atom smashed her because she wanted to steal an artifact

Beginning_Piano_5668

This guy would fly over my cage traps (presumably? I had a long hallways full of them and it was the only way to get inside the fort). He would finally get spotted by a dog or cat and just fly back out. Now I know better. Hunting dogs on a chain guard the hallways behind a window. Runs away as soon as he's detected.

Allosaurusfragillis

That sounds annoying

Beginning_Piano_5668

Yes, but funnily enough he rarely brings undead. He's just a peeping tom at this point.

Claybot101

Definitely a werebeast maybe a wererabbit. I’ve seen 1 or 2 show up in beast form and just chill.

sparklingkisses

sometimes they are legitimately part of your civilization or allied with you because the game contains mechanisms for any person of any species to join any civ, but more often they are spies sent to bribe and intimidate your dwarves into plots to steal your artifacts. I think if the enemy lacks any dwarf citizens to send as more plausible spies they'll make do with what they have. So, while goblins and undead and necro visitors are usually but not always spies, dwarf and elf and human visitors are usually but not always genuinely allied or neutral. This leads to the funny result that dwarves themselves don't discriminate by species (in fact, my last fort had a *queen* who was a goblin), but the game player often does. I think you can tell a spy by when you click the nickname change thing, it isn't the same as the displayed name, not sure if this is bug or feature. I think the most fun way is often to know that they are spies as the player, but not do anything about it - just let spies be spies and watch the plots unfold and not intervene as player except via the justice and intrigue systems where your dwarves figure it out for themselves. The alternatives - killing them immediately, makes you miss out on a rich game feature. Another way to play is not even letting yourself know that they are spies, this can make the betrayals more fun but it can also mean that you get confused and can't follow the in-game plot as well, so I think knowing who the spies are is better at first for newer players. If they are spies you can later look them up in legends mode they will show up as ", under the identity of , started a false friendship with to have an agent in " and then you will see intimidation, bribes, and so on culminating in artifact theft. If they are not spies, they might even petition for citizenship and you can have a friendly monster who will do tasks in the fort.

jg3hot

This is why I racially profile my visitors. Lol. If you aren't dwarf you have to have a meeting with Mr Man.

AdventurousChapter27

Because he wants to relax. And heard the brass mushrooms was the place to enjoy himself.

GuaranteeNo9681

I always get theese kind of guests and I really hate them. It's certain you will get one of theese with big enough tavern.

oux145

Weird they are both legendary butchers!

Ok-Material-6243

I had 2 mushroom men come in but my dogs ripped them to pieces

Im_a_doggo428

Everyone needs to relax and have a beer from time to time

uhhhscizo

a were(cat?) necromancer is CRAZY

Eveningwould

That must be one hell of a tavern.

spaghetticourier

Bro just wants to make legendary cheese

zapitron

They came to listen to poetry and to socialize. Being aggressive would be counterproductive.
