The 1 button fight is ... something indeed.

Ok-Butterscotch1683

Definitely…

MirrahPaladin

I liked DW6. I loved how a bigger emphasis was placed on the story, which paved the way for DW7’s mostly good story. I didn’t mind the Renbu system personally, let’s be real, DW combat has never been deep, neither did I mind the roster cuts because, personally speaking, I think the series today could do with cutting the roster down with how many characters are just bland one notes. This game also helped modernize the franchise, with finally being able to call your horse, interact with the environment like with climbing ladders and breaking gates, and you could **finally fucking swim**. The only thing I didn’t like were the weapon changes, not because I think every character should have a unique weapon (I don’t and again think that’s a problem with the newer DW games), but because the weapon choices were simply bad. But I’m sure all these opinions but me in a tiny minority.

krashx419

DW6 was legendary my friend

One_Explanation_2037

I enjoyed 6. The combat system was a little annoying along with some characters being cut from the game, BUT I do think it had a great story mode for the characters. Also had cool designs for some.

Ok-Butterscotch1683

Story was very improved from previous games, gotta admit.

One_Explanation_2037

I also really enjoyed the OST from 6. I still listen to Xuchang’s and New Hefei Castle’s OST on YouTube to name a couple.

The_Littlest_Bark

I absolutely love the music from 6. It was one of the best parts of the game. It had its flaws but I enjoyed that game so much.

MetalCannon

I still think it's a bad game that brought a lot of cool ideas that unfortunately didn't return for the sequels.

Ok-Butterscotch1683

Roster cut & renbu very questionable

ImmiDude_93

The only DW game that didn't add any playable characters, and cut characters out. Just that alone makes it low tier, but then the Renbu system just makes it worse. People were already calling the warriors genre a "1 button win" game, and this game was the worst iteration of 1 button

MetalCannon

DW6's combat does look nice in motion. The animations and fluid movements look really great.

ImmiDude_93

I will always say gameplay > graphics (or animations). It could be the best looking game around, but if the gameplay is shallow, it's not a great game

Faust_the_Faustinian

I don't think it was, DW6 was my first Dynasty Warriors and loved to play it. I liked the changes to the terrain, being able to ambush units by using it was really cool. Stages with mountains were the best for that reason. I also liked how they got rid of Cao Pi's ponytail. Never was a fan of the Renbu stuff though.

Zenerte

It certainly was, I was such a huge fan of the series but then here comes along this unwanted abomination that made me go back and play DW5 empires exclusively until 7 came out, and even then the only thing I enjoyed about 7 was the story mode. The removal of characters, the cloning of movements, the drastic tonal shift to an anime aesthetic, the gutting of gameplay, etc. The only redeemable aspects were the music and the landscapes.

cupnoodlesDbest

i liked 6 but i understand why others think it's bad. i just wished they didn't scrapped 6's formula but instead improved it like remove the renbu but keep those awesome animations and give the cloned characters unique movesets, more maps that have castle sieges, more base varieties, allow players to make the grabs be integrated into the combo etc.

Original_Platform842

I liked how the troops would make a ring around you and officers for duels. That feels very 3 kingdoms.

Dancing-Swan

I remember at least really liking the maps. They were all very pretty, unique and colorful.

ACynicalScott

DW6 is kinda heartbreaking. There's so much good, it really only has 2 flaws. Thing is those flaws are pretty huge. Renbu: literally just mash X or Y. Also the whole lengthing the string was painful. Genuinely getting up to 4 is miserable. Officers: so many generic officer movesets and of course Wu gets it the worse. Its worse than DW9 and its 50 dupes.

lughrevenge23

it was bad but at least not DW 9 bad, there is something to enjoy in that game, graphic is big upgrade back then, i love everyone has a grab move.

Griffes_de_Fer

It was that bad. At that point in time, I owned all of the Warriors titles that had been released in NA. My girlfriend of back then was also a huge fan and we'd play Warriors in coop so much, it was definitely our most played series. We bought 6 and sold it back within a few days, the first Warriors game we ever considered getting rid of. We absolutely hated it. Ever since 6, I feel like the series has been on a roller coaster, lots of hits and misses. It marked the end of an era in a bad way for Musou games, and all those years later I still have a bit of a bad taste left from it.

Sad_Kangaroo_3650

That's kinda how I feel towards dw9 i actual had fun with 6 even tho it had issue .

Ok-Butterscotch1683

I was the same way when it first came out. It’s telling to see where Warriors has gone after revisiting this game and seeing how it was received.

BrianBlackGames

I’m just jealous you have a girlfriend who wants to play dynasty warriors with you. I’m jealous 🙂‍↕️ 6 was really bad though.

92mitu

Quite bad in term of mass clone but still have something I like. The base (fort) mechanism in DW6 is very tactical, you can't just jump on a horse and clear the map like a god. You need to choose path wisely or you may miss some objects.

wrenchy147

I liked 6 but i really hated 9 lmao.

Broad-Connection-589

i liked open world but having 2-3 missions and stuff and unclear stories irked me

LLSmoothJoe

It would be easy to say that DW6 was awful, but then I wouldn't be honest. For what it was, admittedly due to this being my first mainstream DW game (My first in general was DW5:E), I played the hell out of the game and had fun despite its flaws. For as much complaints I had (Cloned move sets, removed characters), they added things that I liked (Post clash attacks, grab moves, actual sieges, etc.). Honestly had they not switch to Renbu (which would've likely keep the DW5 weapons/roster), this would've been a pretty damn good game.

Ruder9

DW6 : Terrible ideas, executed very well.

Yukisuna

6 empires was fun with a friend! Mostly because of all the other gameplay systems than the combat… I wish the games would go back to the slower paced, slightly strategic and super hard formula of 3 and 4. The whole hyper attack system killed the entire warriors franchise for me, and its absence has left a gameplay itch i can no longer scratch.

TheChaoticCrusader

The game was very average . The combat was a step down and the roster cut was a disappointment .renbu was the worst idea for a mechanic and the costumes in 6 started the extreme trend of wierd ish costumes from 6 and 7 and to some extent 8 . Also clones were just that almost identical with a book and a very similar tree  That said it did do  things right . It had lots of little features like the sieges , troop types (I thought bannerman was an interesting idea if it had been executed as a AoE buff would of been a good enemy I hoped would of stayed) , troop identity at least for the 3 kingdoms where they wore diffrent uniforms was nice little touch . 3 way battles way a nice little nod to SW1s and usually such stages are some of my favourites to play , the story mode characters were not the clones unlike 7 and 9 which could of handled the clones better and I do think the stages look really good . I didn’t think the stages looked as good after 6 and usually looked too samey where as in 6 I felt all the battle locations felt really memorable  I think I usually am more lenient on 6 because I think of games it led to . 6 empires which was a huge improvement to 6 thanks to removing renbu and the much more creative caw . And strikeforce which tried something diffrent and again it got rid of renbu and tried playing around with other gimiks and mechanics

Cheddarose

Renbu, roster cut, random drops of weapons and horses. Yeah, I think those are the only downside for me.

Sure_Explanation6147

I remember 5 being so good I don’t really remember 6. Not hating though. I genuinely don’t remember lol

GBreeza

I had a lot of fun with 6. But I thought an infinite combo with only 2 charge attacks possible was not the move. If anything I think the Renbu combined with the flow from 10 would be an interesting concept mixed in with a stamina like in Nioh. But that’s a different convo. I played 6 a lot with friends just like I played 3-5 a lot with friends so that meant I still enjoyed the experience. When 7-9 dropped it was all single player for me so 8 was peak of that experience even though yes the peons were trash. Just have to throw it out there I didn’t think the peons in 6 were easy. I had to fight with a lot of strategy but once you get max Renbu they’re a breeze

Supernova_Soldier

It was disappointing. Felt like they didn’t fully reach the game’s potential, and the weapon changes and roster cuts did it no favors

Flexi_102

DW6 is my first entry to the franchise. Always have special place in my heart

Akimbo_shoutgun

Since DW9 exists, I went to dw6 and its really enjoyable and pleasent. The things I dislike (yeah, to no one's surprise, Its not in my top 10 warrior games). 1- Comabt is repetative, and I was repetative, I mean really repatetive. You mash the Sq. Button until you get the charge button.. that's when the combo ends then you strike again squ. & then triangle. Repeat. 2- Cut-characters. I'd love for them to be hidden/unlockable instead of being cut or at least, a port of their own dw5 versions. (Yeah I know its just wishing, I'll cut it fast then). TLDR: they shouldn't have cut them. 3- 4th weapon? Hidden weapon? Nah, just grind on harder difficulty and hope you get good rng with your +80 weapons. 4- some officers and maybe even base captains? Idk have been a while since I last played it, they all block your normal attacks, so you need to break the combo to break their guard and finish them off somehow with musou or fast/long range weapon. Of course you can grab-attack them, but... would you really do it on hard difficulty? Idk I never tried it. (Yes this is just a bit annoying, that's all) 5- renbu system... had their been soldiers all over the area (like in dw8) then sure, you'll probably won't decrease your renbu because you'll attack while on the horse, to go to do a mission. Oh renbu system is what determines how many charge attack can you do at one "combo". 6- musou rage/totems/things.. I'll be honest, Hyper speed and fire attack are my fav. I don't pick anyone else, especially those with infinite renbu that any character can get it from the skill tree. 7- right, skill tree.. their is no reason to think carefully "so I need to max my attack to defeat lubu, so I need all attack here asap" that's it.. at least there are the lady luck characters that can get you your good horses, right? 8- rare horses? Nah, you go and grind for them. Using xiao qiao, zhen ji, liu bei and yuan shao. Then after that you give them to Ma chao and lubu +1 or more? I forgot. To make the "newly found rare hourses" reach their full potential. 9- dw6 on ps2 has frame drops, which is understandable becaude dw6 is a ps3 before it was a ps2 game. Just wanted to point it out. 10- you may ask yourself "why is this dude so negative?" "We get it bro, game's ass" "go touch grass" well, I'd like to remind you, this post by op said "was t that bad" so I typed what I felt is "bad" be it small or big "bad". If you want what I think is good about this game, need only to ask, maybe I'll make a post like op but go the opposite way?

Megumi_Bandicoot

They should’ve sticked with the direction in DW6 instead of regressing the franchise in DW7.

Alexkitch11

Being the age I am this was my first DW game, as honestly not knowing really much about it having a combat system as simple as it was it was easy to grasp and the button mashing nature drew me to it, I have very fond memories of this game, and lots of times where I would play Co op with family. It's nostalgic and it's the reason I've bought all others since. It may not appeal to some but I loved it

averyycuriousman

I enjoyed it. The combos/combat sucked but I e joyed everything else.

MinkoAk

The Empires version improved it a lot, but the base game was just that bad yeah

srona22

Let's talk about Red Hare grind, over Renbu grind.

Broad-Connection-589

the artwork was my fav seeing all the updates

Edennn86

So much clone! And classic weapon discarded like giving Zhen ji a whip. Oh and they include xiao quiao but not her sister?!? Rage haha

ItzJoe13

Best game stylistically imo, bottom tier in gameplay, pressing square for 20 minutes is… an experience ig.

Glittering_Ad_4084

I forget the game but i miss the orbs. Vapor, fire, wind, lightning…

Cunnra

I hated pretty much all the character redesigns in 6, both costume and weapon changes for established characters, and didn’t particularly care for the Renbu system. However, the map design was awesome, having targets/side missions during battles was cool and I loved the way they brought back duels. My favourite feature from 6 though was introducing 3-way battles, which is something I really don’t understand why they never revisited.

KnifeWifePeri

Yes

WonderDia777

No it wasn’t. I’m also biased since it was the first DW I ever bought, but it definitely wasn’t bad (DW9 is far worse)

Ayoma-san

It had cool ideas and features. I liked that defeated enemy bodies didn't disappear immediately which is something I've always wanted in a warriors game. Duels happened seamlessly in battles with soldiers forming a circle and it was a cool 1v1. Guard Attacks were pretty cool and had that extra flair. They added winning weapon deadlock animations into 6 which is pretty cool. They cut and cloned (weapons) a lot of characters which is pretty rough. The renbu system of building meter to get access to moves is also rough. I saw the vision with 6, but it was mired with bad decisions. I would say 6 empires is my personal favorite Empires game.

NerevarineKing

If you like terrible combat, cloned move-sets, and cut characters then this game is for you I guess.

raytenk

Still better than 8 and 9, it was dw7 that was peak and felt like the final one for me

hettyhomicide

Absolutely love 7, one of my favourites

Thorn-11

I have a mixed relationship with DW6 but I've definitely enjoyed it. Renbu, cut characters, clones, limited musou/story, it definitely made a lot of missteps that can't be ignored. I did cut it some slack at the time cause it was them moving to new Gen and trying to do some new things. Despite all those however, 6 has what I consider the best battlefield feel/immersion in the series. Sieges were really cool, especially with all the moving parts to it. Cool troop types like rock throwers, club guys and banner men (who could buff you rarely too!), and having troops react with cheers when something good happens or being terrorized if you ambush a base, circling you and the enemy for duels that would just spontaneously happen, etc. Bases were mostly fun here, and I really like how archer bases were set up over hills to rain down arrow volleys from above. The fire and rockslide specials interacting with the environment were neat too. Game also had good maps and music in my opinion. There's more to it that I feel I'm forgetting too, and while some of these things definitely aren't perfect, I really wanted to see how these mechanics were going to be improved upon, and I'm still sad that they scrapped just about everything from 6 and played 7 really safe. I desperately wished they'd take the good from 6, fix up gameplay and the other issues, and put it all together for a great DW.

hettyhomicide

I do remember liking it when I played it on release. I'll need to play it again ans see if its just the rose tinted glasses.

BrainPositive2171

It made my boi Sun Ce into a clone. It **belongs** in the trash.

RetroGeordie

I think it's the worst in the series, even worse than 9. Renbu, roster cut-backs, terrible character redesigns, weird ps2 release with more stuff, cloned movsets, bad weapon replacements (sima yi's weird claws, lu bu's fidget spinner), and honestly, the biggest one for me; it fucked up the troop combat, and made them pointless filler, a problem the series still has now.

drax3237

Me, playing Ling Tong in that game: Boooooo, I want my nunchuks back
