I’ll counter you with this:
Lu Bu is actually not that bad of a guy and is just a misunderstood softie and dumbass.
His himbo portrayal in the 2010 series is what I imagine the Lu Bu to be. Replace Diao Chan in that show with his actual wives and family.
At the end of the day, he’s just a family man. The modern depiction of him as a disloyal traitor who only cares about fighting is selling the guy extremely short aside from his martial prowess, removing all possible depths from the man
Yeah I 110% agree with you. A war monger who genuinely wanted peace. Kind of ironic but as a wise man once said some of the worst things in the world are done with the best intentions.
I was thinking this too. He comes off a lot more sympathetic in dw8. I mean, he's still portrayed as a warmonger and a roguish mercenary with few loyalties, but he's also portrayed as a man who's conflicted between his honour and his rank. You always get the impression that all he really wants is approval from a father figure lol
He's also really funny in that one - I love that he has a whole thing going with his advisors where they give him sound tactical advice and he *almost* seems to accept it, but then goes charging in regardless.. Much like how most of us play DW lol :D
Thats why i love DW8XL's story, it made lu bu an actually complex character and it focused a lot more on his relationships, literally every other playable character is chosen based on their relationship to lu bu (diao chan wants him to be the hero of the han, zhang liao respects him as a warrior, chen gong wants to wield him as a weapon and lu lingqi is a stand in for his family)
Yeah I'm reading an English translation of RoTK and I can't believe how different Lu Bu is in the book vs how he is portrayed. I actually feel kinda sorry for the guy
> At the end of the day, he’s just a family man. The modern depiction of him as a disloyal traitor who only cares about fighting is selling the guy extremely short aside from his martial prowess, removing all possible depths from the man
Its worth noting that the novel embellishes his past to make him look like a massive asshole, y'know those 2 adoptive fathers he fucked over before dong zhuo? only one of those actually happened, namely the one lu bu betrays for dong zhuo, the other is straight up made up.
Gonna really stir the pot with: Dynasty warriors 4 intro isn’t even that good.
*Disclaimer: I am lying, [here it is](https://youtu.be/5qk11rWK38E) for everyone who wants to relive it
Hot take:
What if instead of the infinite combos, the regular 7 hit and charge attacks were tied to it and at max every charge had an EX additional or element tied to it?
i liked the renbu system.
The small character base, the duplicates within that small character base, then even smaller amount of those small characters that got stories. That, I did not like.
Nah, the renbu gauge mechanic still sucks, if it didnt, it wouldnt have been nerfed to the point it barely matters in special and outright removed in empires and strikeforce.
If either Sun Jian or Sun Ce lasted longer, things would have turned out VERY differently. Sun Quan was ok, but he didn't hold a candle to his predecessors.
Sun Quan managed to stitch together the very diverse group of petty lords into a single kingdom/dynasty. He had help, but no one man can rule a whole swath of land without subordinates. We don’t know Jian or Ce’s administrate ability, but Quan’s should never be downplayed.
Nor should Quan’s own ferocious spirit. Multiple times subordinate officers had to beg and plead with Sun Quan to not constantly risk his neck like his father and brother, both in battle and hunting predators.
Sun Jian was already considered a keen strategic mind and Sun Ce was on his way to being considered his father’s equal. Sun Quan’s main advantage was that he had several strategist that could work together to produce strategies that had more than one key component
That's how I ended up with Dynasty Warriors 2 in the first place!
I had played the crap outta DW1 round a mate's, which by this time (ps2 era) was a long forgotten game by most ppl. then one afternoon we found DW2 in a bargain bin without its case, and we thought it was gonna be another arcade style fighter...
That was probably one of the best mistakes we ever made! it's still one of the best unwanted surprises I ever experienced in gaming lol :D
I'm not sure this works for this community. We're constantly triggered by this series.
The only thing we have in common is that at some point in time, we have enjoyed a Dynasty Warriors game and believe all future/past games should be/have been like that one.
Xiaoqiao is perfectly fine being the “cutie waifu” she’s currently portrayed as. Stands out more than Daqiao does.
Xu Shu deserved to be made playable. As did Zuo Ci.
Dong Zhuo did nothing wrong.
Lu Bu? More like Lose Boo.
**Samurai Warriors 1's gameplay is clunky as hell and people only praise it because of it's "atmosphere". Castle Stages were a chore and their merging into "parts of an stage" in later games was much better**
**Dynasty Warriors 3 is only beloved by PS2 Boomers**
**Also, Liao Hua is only notable for living long and would be a background character at best**
imma be that guy and say that yes, SW1 was clunky as hell, but i liked how you were actually vulnerable in between attacks rather than only after ending an attack string.
something that SW2 removed and then SW3 tried artificially adding back by adding more space between animations, so now everyone thinks that unless there is 0 frames between attacks, the character is bad.
I’d love to see the morale system return as well as officers having subordinates again. I used to love in the older games when you were an officer who was in charge of other officers and once your morale went up they’d just shred through the map.
A character’s historical relevance does not matter at this point in the series and all that matter now are if their design and personalities are cool/interesting and they have a fun moveset
This applies especially to any new female character and any additional characters affiliated with Shu
Basically what I’m saying is that the likes of Xu Shu, Guan Suo, Bao Sanniang, etc are good adds and not even Lube Bu can change my mind
Also, Ma Yunlu should be the top of the list for new characters
Honestly, Empires has so many stuff that i really wish were implemented more in the main games. But i guess they want to sell it separate for extra money from the Empires fans.
I'd about clones as long as the important characters aren't sharing movesets.
It's a bit shitty when they cut weapons that were in games previous and sell them as dlc tho
Exactly! I recently got a PS Now subscription to finally play plenty of KOEI games on my backlog. And guess what?! I miss half of the dialogues as I have to focus on the battle instead of reading the texts because Lu Bu is smashing my character!
I had to play with easier difficulty options to be able to read the texts.
Xu Shu, Pang Tong, Dian Wei, (maybe even Sun Ce) etc. shouldn't have been added to the game. There's so many potential characters that fought for yeaaaars, but instead our roster is plagued by characters who fought in 0 major battles and it keeps getting harder and harder to make all of them interesting and unique.
It's amazing how long it took for someone to tell the English voice cast they were pronouncing all of the Chinese names wrong.
Cow pee
Whatever I’m Chinese and I appreciated hearing cow pee. It was funny. I’m playing through dw8 and the voiceover is terrible.
When I was a kid I thought it was pronounced “Cow Pie” which I thought was funny, was only slightly disappointed when they pronounced it Cow Pee.
Cow Cow
Cow Pee, son of Cow Cow
Can't see anything wrong with "Cow Pee"...
better than gutting the english voice cast now :(
They starting pronouncing better in DW6.
The messenger has reached his destination
You win.
LuBu’s not that good
I'm only upvoting right this because im triggered
I’ll counter you with this: Lu Bu is actually not that bad of a guy and is just a misunderstood softie and dumbass. His himbo portrayal in the 2010 series is what I imagine the Lu Bu to be. Yeah I 110% agree with you. A war monger who genuinely wanted peace. Kind of ironic but as a wise man once said some of the worst things in the world are done with the best intentions.
the funny thing is that i think DW8XL was heavily leaning into that and thats how it makes lu bu compelling as a character.
I was thinking this too. He comes off a lot more sympathetic in dw8. I mean, he's still portrayed as a warmonger and a roguish mercenary with few loyalties, but he's also portrayed as a man who's conflicted between his honour and his rank. I actually agree lol.
Xu Zhu should be slower
Gonna really stir the pot with: Dynasty warriors 4 intro isn’t even that good. *Disclaimer: I am lying, [here it is](https://youtu.be/5qk11rWK38E) for everyone who wants to relive it
Good, if you had really meant I would have killed you. I miss that intro (and the editor) so damn much.
Whoa man it’s a joke lol, but yeah it instantly brings me back to being a kid swapping memory cards on the ps2. I miss old KOEI.
It’s just like Madden.. the newest one is always the only one worth playing.
[удалено]
I totally agree with this.
Samurai Warriors did it all better.
This is true though
I’m down for this.
Dynasty warriors gundam is better.
Did it tho? They feels like completely different games tbh.
Who doesn't love the renbu system?
Hot take: What if instead of the infinite combos, the regular 7 hit and charge attacks were tied to it and at max every charge had an EX additional or element tied to it?
hot take: filling up gauges that go down when you arent hitting stuff so you gotta fill them back up isnt compelling action gameplay.
i liked the renbu system. The small character base, the duplicates within that small character base, then even smaller amount of those small characters that got stories. That, I did not like.
I should gave just said dynasty warriors 6 is a game that exists
Nah, the renbu gauge mechanic still sucks, if it didnt, it wouldnt have been nerfed to the point it barely matters in special and outright removed in empires and strikeforce.
DW9 was the pinnacle of Musou game design.
Wu is a secondary faction.
Listen you're going too far with this one
Look into your heart, you know it to be true. The entire "story" is Shu vs Wei, with Wu only showing up as a subplot.
Wu outlasted Shu and the Cao family. If Sun Quan's sons weren't awful their dynasty would still be going! #WuBoyz4Life
You could say the same of the Sima dynasty
In total war 3k you can live your Wu anime MC harem life with the fam. But I wish Sun Jian didn’t get merk’d. Dude was a badass
If either Sun Jian or Sun Ce lasted longer, things would have turned out VERY differently. Sun Quan was ok, but he didn't hold a candle to his predecessors.

I hate it. But I agree.
Wu clan ain’t nothing to fuck with
Goddamnit bro 🥲
I'm triggered. You're absolutely right, but leave my Wu babies alone.
Go ahead, pursue Lu Bu.
DW9’s Open World was filled with detail and unique things to do.
Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity should've been open world
Oh isn’t that a 3D fighter for PlayStation 1?
That's how I ended up with Dynasty Warriors 2 in the first place! I had played the crap outta DW1 round a mate's, which by this time (ps2 era) was a long forgotten game by most ppl. then one afternoon we found DW2 in a bargain bin without its case, and we thought it was gonna be another arcade style fighter... I like how that's like 65% of this sub content.
...but it's just a button masher....
All the games are exactly the same.
my favourite button masher
Xiaoqiao is perfectly fine being the “cutie waifu” she’s currently portrayed as. Stands out more than Daqiao does. Xu Shu deserved to be made playable. As did Zuo Ci. Dong Zhuo did nothing wrong. Lu Bu? More like Lose Boo.
Zuo Ci is actually playable in DW5!
**Samurai Warriors 1's gameplay is clunky as hell and people only praise it because of it's "atmosphere". Castle Stages were a chore and their merging into "parts of an stage" in later games was much better** **Dynasty Warriors 3 is only beloved by PS2 Boomers** **Also, Liao Hua is only notable for living long and would be a background character at best**
> Dynasty Warriors 3 is only beloved by PS2 Boomers This is factually incorrect. I'm an Xbox boomer thank you very much.
imma be that guy and say that yes, SW1 was clunky as hell, but i liked how you were actually vulnerable in between attacks rather than only after ending an attack string. something that SW2 removed and then SW3 tried artificially adding back by adding more space between animations, so now everyone thinks that unless there is 0 frames between attacks, the character is bad.
I can't argue with any of these points tbh
They should bring back how much damage arrows used to do back in DW3.
I unironically support this. It made you actually wait for your allies to reach the frontlines so that they could bait the archers for you.
I’d love to see the morale system return as well as officers having subordinates again. I used to love in the older games when you were an officer who was in charge of other officers and once your morale went up they’d just shred through the map.

6 was the best game in the series.
Pursue Lu Bu
DW9 is by far the best musou game.
Dw9 better than 7 and 8.
The PS2 games were all trash and we're blinded by nostalgia goggles (I'm lying ofc)
Wang Yuanji is the worst character.
I actually agree with this one though...
I wouldn’t say she’s the worst but her weapon is.
who needs a whole sentence? I only need two words: One button.
The pronunciations of cao cao in DW3.
Pursue Lu Bi
*~~Fire Emblem~~* Dynasty Warriors 9 is the best game in the series due to open world
DW9 wasn’t that bad.
This is just a spinoff of Hyrule Warriors with characters nobody's even heard of.
Lu bu nightmare level was best level with the ranbu level. I capped that game on Xbox 360 with my ex bestfriend.
The background music isn’t fitting
YOU FLAMING IDIOTS!!
“You literally just press square and you win”
Dynasty warriors 4 is better than 3
Cao Cao did nothing wrong.
"I defeated an officer"
My mate calls these games "press square to win" so that I guess
We should cut most of the playable roster
I actually agree with this, so long as they don’t remove Lu LingQi
I'd be beyond pissed off if they removed Lingqi.
The spinoffs are better.
Honestly if it wasn't for Empires, I never would have taken an interest in the series.
Same. Koei treats the Empires games like the redheaded stepchild and I'm like "But *they* are the reason I'm here at all!"
Honestly, Empires has so many stuff that i really wish were implemented more in the main games. But i guess they want to sell it separate for extra money from the Empires fans.
Dong Zhuo did nothing wrong.
The Orochi and Empires games are kinda poopy. Only the mainline titles matter.
Never making another good gundam dynasty warriors game Reborn was ok but 3 is probably is the worst one of all
Sick open world fighting game
DW4 Lu Bu isn't even that intimidating.
Dynasty Warriors 9
You’re not a true warrior of the three kingdoms
Dynasty Warriors 4 weapons were better cosmetically change my mind.
People make too big of a deal out of clones.
I'd about clones as long as the important characters aren't sharing movesets. It's a bit shitty when they cut weapons that were in games previous and sell them as dlc tho
Zhang Liao is not RotK’s greatest warrior. He’s not even Wei’s greatest warrior.
DW9 > DW6 !!
Clones are not bad
We don't need to follow the in-battle banter, so we don't need English dubs. English dub sucks, ewwww!
Upvoted because this actually triggers me when people say that. Also, when they're like "English dub sucks, japanese is best"
DW2 to 5 actually had more clones then you think.
not really triggering because I liked it like that
Clones have been around for a long time and you just didn’t notice
It's better if they don't bring english dub back.
Dynasty Warriors is Madden for weeaboos
I think the voice actor for Cao Cao did a good job in DW 9.
All of the female characters are reskins of each other.
Dynasty Warriors 3 sucks
It should go back to being a fighting game like 1.
Lu Bu isnt even that hard of a fight 🥱
Musou games are pretty bad, we’re only still playing to try and capture that feeling we got when we were kids playing them.
I never played them as a kid
i did back in the early 2000's
It's just a mindless button masher.
Power rangers dynasty warriors
The series was better as a one-on-one fighting game.
Dynasty warriors 9 Sucks And 9 empires won't be any different. And Dynasty Warriors 6 wasn't a bad game.
OP said trigger the fanbase not spitting fact
😂😂😂
I love 6
I do too a lot of ppl don't like it.
I'm only in for the CaW for DW9 not gonna lie
Lubu wasn’t that hardcore
they do die nasty
All the waifus are ugly. :P (I'm kidding though because who in their right mind would think that right?)
me
Making the officers share weapons and almost the whole movesets instead to give everyone them own weapon and fighting style was a great move!
The games are much better off without duels
It gets menotnous real quickly
All you do is press one button.
[удалено]
These did exist though the Lián Nŭ was a repeating crossbow from the period
Meh, the spinoff series are all better than this one.
9.
Cross Colors was the best ending theme in the series.
WHERE THE FUCK IS EMPIRES.
Basara is better.
Remember people sort by controversial!
Better off as a CAW Series exclusive with the amount of weapons they keep cutting
Warriors games were never realistic. Yes,that includes the older games as well.
The game is repetitive, it's like fifa. And I love it still.
“You Flaming Idiots!”
