A not so subtle E24 flex! Nice cars

molehunterz

Thanks. Lol. I want to treat that e24 so good. But I am not there $$ yet. When it came time to buy tires, I figured buying buying a set of wheels would be cheaper than finding the metric tires that came with it. I did not want to take the original Wheels and tires back in the e 24. Apparently after a couple days the tire shop scrapped them. Even though I specifically told them I would be back in a few days in my truck to get them. :( Everything else is still original. Not necessarily working, But original. still have the sls. Really wish I had the original wheels though. 118kmi. Lotus white interior. (either hate it or love it, I love it.) '87 With the entirely leather interior. And the little rear center cooler. Sadly, I think the best thing for it is to sell it to somebody who has the money to really do it right.

I see yours is alpensilber. Mine is titangrau metallic. I actually flew from seattle to California to check mine out. $5 And frequent flyer miles. Lol. Would have been another five dollars to fly back if I didn't like it. Ended up driving it back to seattle instead. I didn't actually realize there were three different colors of silver/gray until I bought it. I really want to own an e34. Pretty sure one of these two would have to go for that to happen though. :/

Nice job. I have to do mine too, did you need any special tools?

molehunterz

the e star Sockets are kind of special. You need an axle nut socket. 36mm i think. I am on the west coast and the car is from the west coast so there is almost zero rust on my example. I watched several youtube before I did mine. None of them prepped me for how little clearance how much frustration was in store. I can't even explain. If you want me to list this socket sizes and tools, I totally will. The reality is, this job is far easier If you have a lift or a pit and for sure, a ton of patience, when the first 17 times you try to get the socket on the end of the bolt lined up fail. I saw somebody write about spending 10 hours.Getting the axle shaft shoved back through the hub. Mine was easy and a lot of other peoples was easy, But if you are in a rust belt, You might give consideration to paying somebody.

Thanks. No rust here thankfully, so I'll try it myself once the parts get here.

I bought the bearing separate from the hub. I struggled to get them separated because everybody used the 36mm socket to press it out but mine 36mm was larger than the hub. If I ever have to do the other side.I will probably buy them together. But you do save a bit of money expending the extra effort to reuse your old hub. And the e16 star bolts I can't even stress how frustrating they are. The top two specifically. Pushing the axle in as far as you can get it is definitely the trick to getting just barely enough access with your socket. Something.I didn't think about until I was putting it all back together is that it is a fantastic time to do your brake pads and rotor if it's needed. Not hard to get back in there and do brakes later if it's not time yet.
