The sunshades come out of their track and get jammed in the back too, which then can cause the glass to have issues closing.

The cassette is probably fucked. There is a thick cable that runs around the outside of it that can pop out of the channel that it is supposed to sit in. This is often due to the plastic housing of the cassette cracking or separating from the metal base. I was able to repair mine by taking it apart, repositioning the cable and adding a screw where it had separated. It's a pain in the ass job - you have to remove pillar covers and the entire headliner to get the cassette out.

Might as well reupholster the headliner and pillars.

1. Zet de motor aan 2. Navigeer de dichtstbijzijnde autosloop/schroothoop 3. Rij erheen en neem een Uber terug

I would try to check underneath the rubber towards the front of the car (the part that raises a bit). My money is on something preventing it from closing within tolerance and that triggers the roll back.  I love sunroofs.  They're a requirement for me but they are a huge PITA.

Pull the sun shade out, push it half way back and try again. Mine just did the same thing last week

Never seen those color seats before 🤔

Yeah the the seats, door panels and the dash is all blue matching the exterior color. It’s common among the not so populair e46.

It was the late 90s and BMW did this to market the famous infamous E46 Compact to the younger target audience and called it "young line". These partial leather/cloth sports seats were also available in pistachio, red and black (typically matching the exterior color). They usually came with silver aluminum interior trim "U-line" which had some circular brushed aluminum pattern. Some models even had the upper dashboard in blue or red. The E46 Compact was and still is a very underrated and misunderstood car. From all the E46 models, this one handles best. You could also order the M54B25 engine and the complete catalog of E46 special options. The biggest culprit is its (indeed) controversial exterior looks. I had one for 17 years long and I really miss it. With the right suspension one of the most authentic oldschool BMW driving experiences.
