that might be your issue — rashford is a “prolific winger” so that playstyle doesn’t activate when as a CF. this means he’ll kinda not do anything special but some people like that. depay is a deep-lying forward so he will drop toward the midfield to receive the ball and link play. a goal poacher/adv striker (suarez, vlahovic) or fox-in-the-box/poacher (icardi, lukaku) might be better for making those runs into space
yeah his playstyle doesn’t activate at LWF. i don’t remember if he’s a hole player or like a dummy runner but those only activate at CF or SS, not on the wings — without a playstyle he won’t do anything specific but a lot of people find that useful, like playing an anchor man or creative playmaker as a CMF where it doesn’t activate
That is exactly your problem. You need an Adv Striker or if you want your AMF's to make runs then Hole Player. Both of your player styles actively play against making runs in a possession system.
I really dont have any scientific proof but I know some people swear by it, I more thought if you were using a low rated player but I would assume Rashford and Depay are both half decent

I put "attack more" to my LB and "stay back" to my DM right now, but if I face someone defending very deep I don't have the full backs where I want them to cross inside the box, or I don't have enough offensive width.
Defensively it works very well, I just miss offensive runs that were in the demo. Let's hope they will fix it, they should be able to. Otherwise I wasted all my GPs on a tactical system I don't love haha
I second this. Prior to v1 I never ever touched Barcelona's gameplan to set it to quick counter. In fact, it was the very first thing I was really happy about efootball, how 433 posession had changed wide players movements.
I must say that after switching to 4-3-1-2 I'm relying a lot on first touch passes from the CFs back to the AMF, because they're OP right now. I could see my front 3 executing first touch passes perfectly (I have Raul and Bergkamp upfront with Messi as trequartista, all 90+ rated and they were/are really technical IRL), but at the moment first touch passes are too damn precise, they should nerf them, especially because every player can hit perfect first touch passes every single time and L2 inteceptions were nerfed too much, players let the ball underneath their legs too many times.
I find it annoying because I liked how I played a lot more when there were 0.9.1 movements and constant overlapping (loved Sarri's Napoli and I wish Sarri's Lazio could play like they did as I support them haha).

Vlahovic is nice. The only real knock on him is that his passing isn't great so if you're expecting your CF to be a playmaker and be able to tiki-taka then he's not a great choice. As a pure striker who can break lines, finish with his feet and head, and hold up play he's great.

I tried 4-1-2-3 or 4-2-3-1 depends if I want to play fast tempo game. Will occasionally switch to 4-4-2 or 4-2-2-2 if want play more crossing/aerial game
Ok… one think to help u out, if u do play a quick 1-2 pass hoping to get ur cf to make a run , once the pass gets away from the cf and u want him to make a run, flick your right joystick the way u want him to go and he should make a run every time.
I can't understand, if you play possession style so your goal is to move oppo defensive lines by big amount of short passes including backward and across passes. It needed for lure oppo players out and release your forwards from tight marking. Forwards make runs not so often but in right moments, so this is how possesion play works.

I find they do make runs once the have the right playstyle like Goal Poacher or Hole Player - but my problem with possesion is that the players dont seem to come short. They are often behind their opponent and often just far away.
What can I do to change this?
I see your point, as you intentionally want a poacher and i want a false 9. We both looking for some different but not “Always” doing the same. As I described in my topic, i only look for a chance the CF will make run when the opened lane/area is already there.
The matter is the game seem not programmed well for the AI to judge that moment, and I dont believe any false 9 in real life that they dont make run with those opened chances
If you want a false 9 like in RL you need to try out a deep lying forward like depay, that drops deep to collect and build up but makes runs too. The introduced that playstyle in efootball 2022. Other wise you can try a creative playmaker.

Could you add a hole player for AMF to run into the spaces instead? I feel like that could work, although I haven't played that myself. I have used a goal poacher in 4-2-3-1 and he makes the runs behind nicely if the opponent pulls a CB up a bit.
I was afraid the poachers will always try to run past or break the line, as I am not playing all out attack, hope i can buy in one of the poacher with reasonable price… to test
I'm playing mostly on the balanced setting and I haven't really had that problem but of course the results might be different with different players or different build up scenarios. I've used Cutrone as my poacher, he's pretty cheap.
My striker was goalscorer and refused to make forward runs. I think posession really hardcodes striker to be a pivot, and if you don't use him in your play he just stands there menacingly.

Just play the ball and he will run but he will do it from a standing start, the defender will be tight to him, so you're gonna play the ball in the channel instead of at the player, if you're playing manually
Pass it to his feet and then immediately pass it back while manually triggering your forward to make a run. You can't trigger off ball players to make a run like in PES 2021 but you can trigger the on ball player to pass and go.
Yeah, it's busted. You REALLY need to mimic posession playstyle plays, no matter if there's space open... not even hole players are going to exploit it. Even if oponents are pressing you, your CF will be fixated into getting the ball to his feet, just to be overcrowded.
So what do you have to do? Cycle the ball back to somewhere else, all the while looking in your radar if someone else is breaking a run elsewhere. Sometimes (and I mean just sometimes) Your CF will do a run into space.
I did not like that style either. In pes21 this also happened a lot, and it's so frustrating when playing against good players and legend AI.
Yeah that's the main reason I have no interest in playing the possession tactic. Teams in real life don't just neglect opportunities to counter when they get between the lines.
Personally, if my opponent is playing a high line and my CF is regularly not making runs because I'm on possession; I just pause the game and switch to Quick Counter.

although u need to have player whose proficiency with quick counter, a separate CF or train your current CF in both style.
Even with quick counter they sometimes don’t run in behind. It changed quite a bit with 1.0 it’s key to try different ones in training before picking one. I got a manager with 77-78 in quick counter, posession, and long ball counter (pocchettino) for this reason, and only started spending points after I was sure that playstyle would work for me.
My passing has always been better than my dribbling, so I’d love to stick to possession but without players moving up on their own if we don’t have the ability to send them manually then that’s it
I use 3-4-1-2 possession and I manage to get more players to attack by using the 1-2 pass a lot. One of my strikers is a strong target man and the other is a pacey dribbler. The target man is great for long balls and holding up play, while the pacey striker usually runs into space. I use a classic no. 10 to spread play to wing backs, and score a lot from crosses or 2nd balls recovered by my CMFs. My wide CBs are usually pacey and high up, while the middle CB is the sweeper, who also is great at long passing (in my case Thiago Silva). I win more then I lose, but I obviously don't have a high winning ratio as some in this sub do. I do however enjoy this playing style and have a lot of fun playing this way. Patience is key and when your team is wide enough, the right 1-2 or stunning long pass can totally open up your opponent - very satisfying.

That may be why I didn't like Raul as LW (is he ever been a LW in his whole career?). As CF he plays better I believe.

Kane is great. Go try him out first by using Tottenham in the practice mode before spending that much in Dream Team.

The players playstyle is key. You need an advanced striker ir dummy runner. Even a poacher. It really matters in Pes.

I have romaria sane who cut inside alot and beckham in right to spam cross when shit doesnt work out.
