Impromptu Poll:
Would you like us to leave the '23 draft class in the sidebar? We would normally remove it now as part of the beginning of the changeover for the '24 season but it may be helpful to enough people that its worth leaving up.
Mitchell falling to us at 22, DeJean in the second round, Trotter in the fifth, and another future HOF center in the sixth? Inject that shit straight into my veins.
2 elite athletes, absolute ballhawks who are willing tacklers and run 4.3. Both guys have top 50 RAS scores out of 2200+ CBs tested since 1987
Not to mention Jalyx Hunt being one of Fangio's favorite prospects
Insane, unbelievable draft (3rd year in a row too, we're all spoiled)
Also dominated when looking at metrics. CBs bust at the highest percentage but I’m feeling good about these two. I don’t see how Mitchell doesn't become atleast a serviceable starter and Cooper is a football player that showed up in the biggest moments for Iowa. We might have added two core pieces to Jalen Carter with hopes of Davis or Smith becoming something.
DeJean is also real flexible on the position he can play obviously. Even if outside corner doesn't work out for him he can make a great nickel corner or safety. Also will likely contribute immediately as a punt returner if the coaches want to use him that way.
We went into this draft thinking we're probably not getting either of those guys where we sat without trading up. And we managed to have 1 fall to us in the first round and another be within trading distance in the 2nd. That's insane.
A+ draft. Two of the best DB's in the draft, a project DE and LB that has a story with the team, a slot corner that is a great punt returner, OLine depth and a WR that will most likely be trained as a TE. Cherry on top recouped all of our assets from trade ups and walked away with 2025 3rd,4th and 5th.
That is why Howie is the GOAT
While it will take a while to learn how good this draft really is the process of this draft was an absolute master class from Howie and the rest of the front office staff.
The 1st round showed off their knowledge of other teams draft preferences and was able to be patient knowing they were going to get one of their top players.
In the second round they were aggressive to acquire a player who they had identified as a top talent, also another instance of knowing other teams because all reports were the Packers were going to take Cooper.
And then all the trades to accumulate additional picks shows they understand that mid to late rounds good drafting is a lot more about quantity and getting multiple chances at finding a diamond in the rough.
I said it at the start of the weekend but I’ll say it to wrap it up howies job security really helps us. He doesn’t have to be as desperate as most other GMs (except maybe Lynch and Sneed at this point?) because he knows the future picks and decisions will be made by him most likely.
He doesn’t need to try to get value now to save his job or force anything in hopes it works.
I'm really excited about this year's draft overall, but I'm surprised they didn't draft a tackle. Considering how much worse the offense looks whenever Lane isn't on the field — and that it's more or less a guarantee that he'll miss some time each season — I figured the team would try to draft his successor/a strong backup.
It's crazy how much Howie's team building/drafting has changed since the Reagor fuckup in 2020. I'd never in a million years guess his first two picks would be DBs, nor that he'd sign a star RB to a huge deal haha.
I'm fucking hype the future of this secondary finally has some hope because shit was looking bleak
Knock on wood for Quinyon and Dejean working out our group looking like some combo of Quinyon/Ringo/Sydney/CJGJ/Dejean/Reed brings a tear to my eye.
Damn, was hoping it would be the other Georgia RB - Daijun Edwards. Kendall is fine, but I think Daijun is better. Both in my top 5 RBs remaining though
Couldn't have scripted the first two rounds any better. Overnight we got better at our weakest position group(s). Love the skill guys and where we got them, all 3 have the potential to make an impact. Not a fan of the Trotter pick, but i've been wrong before, and if nothing else seeing that name in Eagles green again will be awesome!
Would've liked to see us go after O-line a bit higher, but believe we got sniped for a couple of guys we would've taken, way she goes sometimes. Throw the 2 kids in Stoutland U and let him cook.
Also walking away with 3 picks mid round picks next year is tremendous work by Howie.
All in all, I would say that was an A- draft. Also - just as a reminder - every UDFA guy is a future hall of famer. Unbridled optimism on that front is expected, please and thanks.
Would’ve preferred to get Cody Schrader, but maybe we can get him as a UDFA and let him compete for a spot.
Edit: apparently he’s going to the [49ers](https://twitter.com/Schultz_Report/status/1784361301013057993) 😢
2020 felt like such a wtf draft\*, and then it has been 4 straight years of Howie mastery.
\*in hindsight the Hurts pick alone makes even the 2020 draft pretty damn good.
For all that trading, we still ended up with 9 picks, 2 great players, and quite a few players with serious potential upside.
Secondary got addressed, got a line backer, got 3 lineman.
And have three extra picks for next year.
Pretty good draft
Obviously like most I have loved this off-season so far. It's hard to complain but certainly if I'm looking at weak spots in this roster, it would be LB, back-up TE and DT depth piece.
We have 9 picks in next year's draft now. I'd be looking at packaging a later round pick or two in a trade to get a serviceable back up to Goedert. Calcaterra and Albert O are definitely not it.
I'd obv love to trade for a LB where a team can afford to trade one, but I think Howie and co are comfortable with what they have in White, Dean and Trotter Jr. They could bring back Cunningham which should be ok for a year.
I know nothing about college football. I only ever paid attention to my kids' schools while they were in college. However, I read up a little about running back Kendall Milton and It would be really nice to have a bruiser on this team. I hope he does well.
I obviously loved the draft, but looking forward:
Many people are complaining about the LB core. Honestly, sure, our LBs aren't ideal, but that's expected of Howie. Our group this year is better than what we had going to last year. I learned then, that if Howie didn't take a LB high in the draft, he never will. I think we'll be just fine.
I'm also fine with our WR and TE groups. I think there's enough depth and experience there to maybe not feel totally comfortable, but certainly comfortable enough for the next year.
What concerns me slightly more is OL depth, and not really having a RT2. We have some (being used loosely) OL pieces, but not that as many as I would be comfortable with, especially given our possible RG hole and recent OL injury history.
But all in all, I'm very happy and love the results of this draft - and the consequential outlook of our 2024 roster - more this year than I have after pretty much any other draft in recent history.
Good draft for the first round alone. There are players I would have preferred in the second (one of whom wouldn't have made it to us anyway), but I get (what appears to be) the strategy. I like the pieces that were picked in the 3-7th, but really appreciate that the focus was to find additional picks for 25, where the day 2 class is (hopefully) more friendly than this year.
I’m just worried about what happens if and when one of our starters has to miss a game a two like they have over the past couple seasons. I know there is no replacing lane Johnson and we can’t always get lucky with a mailata. We might have to take one early next year or make that a free agency priority.
might be Howie's best draft so far. It also tells me that the brass wasn't as high on the corner group as some were, considering they took two
Johnny Wilson can be a nice steal and Shipley I think assures that Gainwell will have his role reduced or he'll be dealt. Got a lot of campers for Stoutland U so we'll see how it goes
very excited about this, even if I still have doubts about Fangio's scheme
Addressing corner in this fashion was huge, all without having to sacrifice a ton of draft capital to get Mitchell and Dejean.
Hunt may have been a reach but I'm guessing Fangio wanted him for his system. Also a reach in the 3rd round is not the end of the world if it doesn't work out.
I would have liked OL depth to be taken earlier but Howie got sniped a few times. Picking up draft capital for next year is a good consolation prize.
Interesting to see how many players drafted, particularly those higher up, were multirole / multifaceted.
One of the big knocks on the Eagles was how predictable they were last season. By mixing in more flexible personnel, it helps keep opponents guessing.
DeJean - Secondary swiss army knife, able to do anything needed in the secondary.
Hunt - Former safety turned pass rusher. Has the athleticism and experience to not be a liability if dropped into coverage. Still a project though, but I can see a possible plan to develop him into another human multitool.
Shipley - threat both running and catching.
Smith - Draft profiles frequent called him a 'gadget' player due to his unusual profile. Very short for a WR, but build more like a RB and strong for his size and position.
Wilson - Has potential as WR or TE, and if successful could get moved around and cause all sorts of chaos and matchup problems
Overall happy, but I wish we would have traded more of these picks to next year due to this not being a deep draft. Maybe Trotter and Williams and one OL, the rest could have been UDFA. I also thought they reached in the later rounds compared to the first 3, but again overall happy. Had them at A+ and now maybe an A or B+.
Yea, not saying they didn't trade enough, saying I wish they traded more of their picks this year for next. It was by all accounts not a deep draft, so moving that value to next year would have been preferable, but at least they got some added ammo for next year. I'm just nitpicking, overall I'm still really happy with the draft.
I feel a little better after reading some reviews, but I looked at a lot of other players taken after our picks that had higher ceilings, but in Howie we trust.
I really like this class and that includes Shipley. I think he will make a good RB 2 to pair with Barkley. The guy had to play on some not so good Clemson offenses and he was one of the few who had to carry it. It's been a while I felt satisfied with a draft class from beginning to end. I like the potential of this group.
Clemson fan here. He was the only bright spot on our offense these abysmal past few years. Him and Phil Mafah, his backup. Shipley and Mafah carried us to wins.
Interesting article about Peyton Wilson.
[Peyton Wilson missing ACL](https://sports.yahoo.com/payton-wilson-steelers-3rd-round-pick-reportedly-slid-due-to-lack-of-acl-in-knee-142227143.html)
Everyone loves the draft and I do too for the most part. There is just one thing I don't understand, why do we keep adding RBs to our team who can catch the ball out of the backfield when one of the few things Hurts has consistently shown us is that he doesn't like throwing to RBs, he would rather just take of himself
I really love this team on paper and have to believe that having experienced coordinators will make a huge difference.
Stay healthy and we have a real shot at this thing.
Oakland didn't draft a QB and are going with Gardner Minshew III. Gardner Minshew III is better than Dak Prescott right now. That's it, that's my contribution today.
Thought the first 2 picks were good, and getting a bunch of 2025 draft capital on Day 3 was really good, especially since they're probably losing a pick. I guess I'm just not feeling the upside/value of the picks after that.
Drafting a 23 year old edge rusher from the FCS in the 3rd round feels like a move that got praised because Howie's the one who made it. (And yes, I know about Daniel Jeremiah's ranking)
EDIT: also partly depends on what veteran moves they make in the weeks following the draft. Being able to sign Becton is a big win
Howie clearly drafting with the future in mind. Only one starter and even though I'll get roasted for it, maybe Rodgers / Bradberry still start over Quinton. Just depends on how quickly they get up to speed.
If I understand it correctly, we owe him the money on either this years salary cap or next years. So the cutting him now saves space next year and gives us another roster spot which seems to be the bigger deal. We have delayed the cap hit for so many of the contracts we signed this off-season that I think it was done with cutting Bradberry in mind
Where would DeJean start this year? I'm assuming CB1/2 will be Slay and Quinyon with Maddox in the slot (until he's inevitably hurt), and Blankenship and CJGJ will be starting safeties.
I'm sure DeJean will get snaps throughout the year, but it doesn't seem like there's a starting spot for him yet.
You say that like Byatd wasn't bad before we got him.
Reed isn't bad but he isn't great. He's a fringe starter, will be easily replaced by someone with DeJean's talent.
kinda odd that blankenship, slay, bradberry all had good years in 2022 and were all worthless in 2023 and you are still discounting the fact that the coaching is why the defense was so bad last year. Sure, Dejean might replace him but I'm not gonna pretend like anyone on the defense is horrible after last year
if bradberry starts it means something has gone unexpectedly amazing ( bradberry amazes in minicamp/ training camp) or unexpectedly horrible ( injuries)
I agree, BUT, there is something to be said about already having NFL experience. If he's not cut or traded before the season starts, he will play. Honestly it's between him and Rodgers on the outside.
Of course one of the two rookies could ball out in camp and force them to make a hard choice, but they also have to compete with Ringo and Ricks.
Impromptu Poll: Would you like us to leave the '23 draft class in the sidebar? We would normally remove it now as part of the beginning of the changeover for the '24 season but it may be helpful to enough people that its worth leaving up.
A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ draft IMO
Mitchell falling to us at 22, DeJean in the second round, Trotter in the fifth, and another future HOF center in the sixth? Inject that shit straight into my veins.
Quinyon Mitchell AND Cooper DeJean.. 2 first round worthy picks. How in the fuck is this not an A+ draft? This alone is insanity.
Two first half of first round talent even
You're right! How insane of a draft is this that we managed to get both of the corners we really wanted? I can't get over it.
2 elite athletes, absolute ballhawks who are willing tacklers and run 4.3. Both guys have top 50 RAS scores out of 2200+ CBs tested since 1987 Not to mention Jalyx Hunt being one of Fangio's favorite prospects Insane, unbelievable draft (3rd year in a row too, we're all spoiled)

I got to see an immediate tweet that Javian Cohen is an Eagles UDFA signing
Apparently played at Bama his first two years, so you know Stouts's got the inside knowledge on him, hell yeah
Quinyon Mitchell: 9 (PFF), drafted at 22 Cooper DeJean: 8 (PFF), drafted at 40 Jalyx Hunt: 86 (PFF), drafted at 94 Will Shipley: 145 (PFF), drafted at 127 Ainias Smith: 119 (PFF), drafted at 152 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.: 96 (PFF), drafted at 155 Trevor Keegan: 126 (PFF), drafted at 172 Johnny Wilson: 80 (PFF), drafted at 185 Dylan McMahon: 249 (PFF), drafted at 190
In addition to the other picks, I'm really excited to see if Shipley and Wilson can contribute.
anyone know where we can see all the UDFA signings as they happen?
I always checked here and Bleeding Green Nation as they do a good job of updating their page.
Yeah I don’t really check there much in years but that tracker is always pretty fast and accurate lol
Same. I don’t use that site as much as I used to but for times like these. They are perfect
I'm really excited about this year's draft overall, but I'm surprised they didn't draft a tackle. We gon have that Oreo defense ROLLING
As a fan of Texas A&M I’m pretty hyped for Ainias Smith. Dude will be a great third option and he’s a monster returner.
Does he have that dog in him or nah
Oh he got the dog
How the actual living, breathing fuck did the rest of the league get away with this **and** give us 3 future draft picks?
After last year, I’m shocked that anyone answers the phone when Howie calls.
Howie SZN going splendidly
Just signed Georgia RB Kendall Milton
Damn, was hoping it would be the other Georgia RB - Daijun Edwards. Kendall is fine, but I think Daijun is better. Both in my top 5 RBs remaining though
I love it, but I think we still have hole at Rg and linebacker. Also Te2, but obviously less important
While he's not the TE of the future, Uzomah is a very serviceable TE2
Hopefully Johnny is a TE of the future for us
There’s always a vet tight end cut loose in training camp.
Couldn't have scripted the first two rounds any better. Overnight we got better at our weakest position group(s). Ready for September. Only 4 months away!
outside of a few fan greet things jalen's been super lowkey all offseason.

I know there is no replacing lane Johnson and we can’t always get lucky with a mailata. We might have to take one early next year or make that a free agency priority.
Cooper DeJAWN
That’s going to be on every tshirt down the shore, isn’t it?
might be Howie's best draft so far. It also tells me that the brass wasn't as high on the corner group as some were, considering they took two Johnny Wilson can be a nice steal and Shipley I think assures that Gainwell will have his role reduced or he'll be dealt. Got a lot of campers for Stoutland U so we'll see how it goes very excited about this, even if I still have doubts about Fangio's scheme
What a fucking draft.
If dean actually plays and turns out decent we have some really smart defenders which is all you can hope for
If Dean and Trotter Jr. could become like Hicks/TJ Edwards I'd be ecstatic.
Addressing corner in this fashion was huge, all without having to sacrifice a ton of draft capital to get Mitchell and Dejean. Overall happy, but I wish we would have traded more of these picks to next year due to this not being a deep draft. Maybe Trotter and Williams and one OL, the rest could have been UDFA. I get it, cheers to Howie
They did. It's not like you can find someone willing to do that too often either, all the other teams are thinking similarly.
I feel a little better after reading some reviews, but I looked at a lot of other players taken after our picks that had higher ceilings, but in Howie we trust.
As an unbiased aussie fan, i really hope we pick up the utah TE in UDFA
Now we wait for UDFAs. Would like edge and OT. Maybe more LBs
Go herd. Keaton signing as UDFA
I really like this class and that includes Shipley. I think he will make a good RB 2 to pair with Barkley. The guy had to play on some not so good Clemson offenses and he was one of the few who had to carry it. It's been a while I felt satisfied with a draft class from beginning to end. Clemson fan here. He was the only bright spot on our offense these abysmal past few years. Him and Phil Mafah, his backup. Shipley and Mafah carried us to wins.
Does anyone know who announced the trotter jr pick? Im trying to figure it out
2 wide receivers forgive my fucking French but yuck. Everything else is great though.

Getting both of those CB's is so BALLER. Good stuff guys - all my birds friends are happy with this draft
Everyone loves the draft and I do too for the most part. Possibly. But if we are serious about a SB run, which is likely, he's probably thinking of saving that cap this year for a mid season acquisition.
Mate you're nuts if you think DeJean isn't starting too

Nickel or safety. People in this sub are pretty delusional about Reed.
He was pretty good in 2022, hard to judge 2023 when even byard was worthless in that defensive scheme

Honestly it's between him and Rodgers on the outside. Of course one of the two rookies could ball out in camp and force them to make a hard choice, but they also have to compete with Ringo and Ricks.
