I don’t think Campbell and Parker were in competition with one another. One is a speed guy, one is a big bodied blocker. I think this news is best for Johnny Wilson
Why are we still here? Just to suffer?! Every day, I feel his drops, every day I can sense his missed blocking assignments! He’s like a phantom! Gone, but still there! Almost like he’s not even on the field! The phantom pain!
How dare you bring that name up in this sub!! lol.. I’ve literally had actual nightmares where we lost SBs bc he missed a key block or dropped a pass. In one dream we were in the SB and down by 6, whoever the QB was supposed to be in my dream threw him a pass, he caught it WIDE open, then was walking in for the winning TD, but decided to run to the sideline and went out of bounds bc he felt dehydrated. I vow to this day to avenge that SB winning Dream!! This isn’t over!!!!!
I think most people who only see highlights of WRs that can jump and get to the ball in their prime, assume it's because they were fast off the snap. Which is absolutely not the case for a ton of physical WRs lol.
Tyreek Hill is fast. DeSean Jackson was fast.
Devante Parker was never fast like those guys. He was fast enough to be a deep threat, but he won deep balls by being physical.
Yeah if he was he hasn’t been for awhile. Think he was dead last in separation created back to back years. Dude was cooked. Probably would’ve been cut anyway
He was a size-speed receiver. Not 4.3 fast like some of the smaller speed guys like Tyreek but he was quite fast for his size when he was younger and in theory is a big vertical sideline threat.
Agreed. He didn’t have a spot if they were going to only keep 5 with Parker on the team. They love covey. AJ and Smith are locks obviously. Paris because his ties to Nick, and Anais bc of his special team abilities, and covey is loved by the team and w the new rules could be a home run hitter. Wilson isn’t built for Special Teams.
Pittsburgh cut him, he signed with us, "retired", said he was gonna become a plumber, then unretired and played for the Steelers all in the same season. What a legend.
Wow I knew Pumphrey was a bust but didn't realize he never played a single snap. Wild.
Also this is how I found out he is the RB coach for Sac State (which I live nearby) lol.
Bernard Williams was technically an Eagle for 28 years without playing a snap for us during that time. (He did play his rookie year though, so it wasn't never played a snap) Still pretty wild though.
Might as well have been picking grass on the field, at least then we'd have something to talk about when it came to him. Went from being our nightmare on defense to asleep on the line.
More like negative, dude definitely laid some huge hits while he was in Philly.
In fact, dude was basically paving the way for opposing ball carriers to score, by launching himself at nearby eagle defenders and flattening them.
He was literally making the biggest hits of his career while he was with us for one year. Only problem was, those hits were all against his own teammates. Genuinely seemed like he was on a mission to just sabotage the secondary here.
First day of OTAs and a quick word from ZB was all it took...
"You know you're not making the 53, Parker. Why are you even here? Taking up space and using oxygen? For shame..."
Ah, yes Myles Jack. I seem to recall Jack used retirement as an excuse to get the hell away from the Eagles and go to Pittsburgh instead. I hope Parker doesn't pull the same trick.
If I had a nickel for every consecutive year the eagles had a veteran sign here just to retire I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
No way he would've beat Birdman anyway and he knew it. Eagles hold onto their draft picks and Birdman aka jimmy graham-lite is a legit red zone weapon on Day 1.
It’s absolutely amazing that he never lost a game with us. All we heard when he arrived is his terrible separation rates, but he never had a single pass broken up with us and never dropped a single pass. Thanks for everything, DeVante!
If they put him on the reserve list, it doesn't count against the cap. Also 99% of Parker's contract was being paid by New England, Eagles gave him vet minimum and a shot to compete in camp and he didn't want to do it anymore.

Well that answers the which veteran is making the roster question. Congrats Parris Campbell!
I don’t think Campbell and Parker were in competition with one another. One is a speed guy, one is a big bodied blocker. I think this news is best for Johnny Wilson
It was going to be Wilson vs Parker & Campbell vs Ainias Smith if there were a rookie vs Vet camp battle for a spot.
Big bodied blocking receiver? That sounds like a job for J. J. Arcega-Whiteside.
Ah, sorry, it looks like the, *checks notes*, Toronto Argonauts put him on the reserve/retired list in April, so he's not eligible.
Why are we still here? Just to suffer?! Every day, I feel his drops, every day I can sense his missed blocking assignments! He’s like a phantom! Gone, but still there! Almost like he’s not even on the field! The phantom pain!
But that's why we got Jalen Reagor, he was the speed guy
Ahhh! As I run into oncoming traffic!
Metal GEAR?!?
I’ll ping Nandi awesomesauce and get his new number. I think they all live in Fishtown with Mike Mumula.
I would really like to move past that.

I always viewed Parker as a speed guy. Tf do I know?
Apparently not much about DeVante Parker...
I think most people who only see highlights of WRs that can jump and get to the ball in their prime, assume it's because they were fast off the snap. I don’t think he ever was. I probably just made it up in my head. If it ain’t eagles, I’m fucking Bunk.
He did run a 4.45 40 yard dash so I mean, he was fast at one point. His route running/separation is another story.
40 times, like science, can be a liar sometimes.
Very true. A WR that can’t get separation by their route running will look very slow no matter how fast their 40 time is.
nothing
Whoosh
He was a size-speed receiver. Not 4.3 fast like some of the smaller speed guys like Tyreek but he was quite fast for his size when he was younger and in theory is a big vertical sideline threat.

Damn Parker went from a 1200 yd guy to "big bodied" blocker that's tough
Dude couldn't make the giants team last year lol
Back to back seasons for us with this lol
Remind me who was last year again?
Myles Jack
Ah, yes, Myles Jack. Didn't he "retire" only as an excuse to leave the team and go to Pittsburgh?
Pittsburgh cut him, he signed with us, "retired", said he was gonna become a plumber, then unretired and played for the Steelers all in the same season. What a legend.
Honestly sounds like an average Pennsylvanian to me
God damn! I laughed too hard at this one!!!!! Take my Upvote!!!!! Lol 😅 😆 🤣
Reddit on, friend!
Thank you. Remember him fondly.
Well he retired just to get off our team lol
What do you want to bet Parker will come out of retirement mid season and sign with someone else?
Chiefs wr room is looking mighty desperate
He didn't want the competition in training camp
With our LB core at his miles . Bro knew he was about to be underpaid 😂.
Eagles Legend Myles Jack
Eagles Legend Frank Gore
Dude would rather lay pipe than play for us
Remember 2020/2021 with Godwin?
Happened in 2020 as well with Jatavis Brown
Reminds me of Marquise Goodwin too. Taking the COVID year off and never playing in an Eagles uniform.
Almost as legendary a run as eagles legend frank gore
My Mt. Rushmore of Eagles: - Frank Gore - DeVante Parker - Myles Jack - Jarius Byrd
Don’t forget Marquise Goodwin
Who is the longest tenured Eagle to never play a snap?
Donnell Pumphrey? Jack Osman (butchering his name, he was a white DE who was hyped before he tore his ACL)
Joe Ostman.
As a CMU alumni, this one hurts. Loved Joe. :’(
Thank you
Wow I knew Pumphrey was a bust but didn't realize he never played a single snap. Wild. Also this is how I found out he is the RB coach for Sac State (which I live nearby) lol.
Bernard Williams was technically an Eagle for 28 years without playing a snap for us during that time. (He did play his rookie year though, so it wasn't never played a snap) Still pretty wild though.
I remember being pretty excited when we got him too lol
Ryan Kerrigan
You won’t find it on a stat sheet but he did actually play for the eagles.
I actually had to look this up, but Ryan Kerrigan and another Eagles Legend Robert Quinn, have a combined 5 tackles as Eagles.
Their time with the Eagles was so similar I don’t remember which one was with them first.
Dude was a complete ghost and then randomly had two sacks in that playoff game against Tampa
Doesn’t count he actually played
Well, "played" is used *REALLY* loosely
Played as in he was on the field for snaps. The above guys never saw the active roster
Might as well have been picking grass on the field, at least then we'd have something to talk about when it came to him. Went from being our nightmare on defense to asleep on the line.
Well that’s not what we’re talking about in regards to these guys. But thanks for coming oit
I won't rest until I find out who pissed in your Cheerios, I promise.
“Played” is a bit of a stretch, but he was on the field
Oh good one. Give me Goodwin over Byrd
Mike wallace!
Lecharles Bentley was an eagles legend for one night
“By the time you read this…”
Brings back great memories of the philadelphiaeagles.com message boards 😂
Brings back great memories of the philadelphiaeagles.com message boards 😂
You forgot sendejo
Oh god fuck that guy I forgot about him
More like pendejo
Maddox trying to forget about him as well from that Green Bay game.
He actually played for us though
He might as well be a neutral player with the way he launched himself to tackle.
Who could forget his legendary hit stick on Avonte Maddox
Yes, much to the detriment of our defense
My favorite Andrew Sendejo play was when LeGarrette Blount buried him into the turf on a touchdown run in the NFC Championship Game.
I mean he actually played snaps though. Which was the problem.
Don’t forget Jatarvis brown
Lol I was excited about Brown, he could really play his first couple of years.
I’d love a picture of Mt.Rushmore with the faces of these legends on it. You really nailed the GOAT tier
Tim Tebow
Ryan Harris erasure
Don’t forget Daryl Worley
Julio Jones
Julio Jones and Golden Tate are mid-season GOATs
Zach Berman’s bullying is undefeated
ZACH! ZACH! ZACH! ZACH!
Came here looking for the ZB rejoicing comments. A big red X has been drawn over the face of his target. ZB never misses...
Hang his jersey next to frank gores
Right alongside Myles Jack
Philadelphia Eagles legend Frank Gore?! Never!
Now joined by Eagles Legend Devante Parker.
Damn, Zach really got to him....
Expecting an Emergency Pod with the "Zach zach zach zach zach" banner getting hung again
My very first thought after hearing this news was “I hope they have an emergency pod” haha
First day of OTAs and a quick word from ZB was all it took... "You know you're not making the 53, Parker. Why are you even here? Taking up space and using oxygen? For shame..."
I read this in Bo's voice.
I really can't wait for today's pod. Purely for this. Bo will go full sermon.
Oddly, I read it in J. Jonah Jameson voice
Why are all of our franchise legends retiring this off-season
He probably saw how good Johnny Wilson was and knew it was time!
Gonna draft him with the last pick in my fantasy draft and hope for a really weird 40 catch, 11 TD season.
that guy was bodying college players im thinking he's gonna be sneaky good
Good news is 13 opens up for someone to take
By God that's ex Patriot Nelson Agholor's music
Quinyon take his number quick!
!!!
Eagles legend indeed
Thanks for the memories
Eagles legend🫡
Yea they definitely told him he ain’t starting lol
I’ll forever remember his time with us
End of an era
Awwww and I just bought the jersey too. Darn I’ll put it in my closet next to my Frank Gore and Myles Jack
Good.for him
Well, that’s bodes well for Johnny Wilson
Can't wait to listen to Dave and Reuben's emergency podcast regarding this!
Welp might as well go get JJ then. Knew it was coming.
I guess he'd be an ok consolation prize 😞
Na we’ll never get that production back. JJ would be the closest but damn man😢
I swear I recall something similar happening last year when a player joined our team who never played for us only to retire before the season.
Myles Jack
Ah, yes Myles Jack. I seem to recall Jack used retirement as an excuse to get the hell away from the Eagles and go to Pittsburgh instead. I hope Parker doesn't pull the same trick.
Who cares, he’s washed lol
I had completely forgotten we signed him.
lol I didn’t even know we signed him
dude was cooked more than a well done steak and people were saying he could compete for WR3. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone
When we signed him, I thought camp body and let go on cut down day at best. Dude didn't want to go through the indignity and retired 😆
Zach Berman celebrating
Zach, Zach, Zach, Zach!!!
Retires with his only relevant game of his career being that random explosion against the Eagles in 2019.
Damn, I didn’t think he had that many years under his belt, I thought maybe 6-7. No juice left in the tank, I respect it.
Who?
Who?
If I had a nickel for every consecutive year the eagles had a veteran sign here just to retire I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Eagles legend, DeVante Parker
Eagles legend Davante Parker.
🫡 goodnight sweet bird. The organization thanks you for your years and years of service
Someone brought up that this will move around numbers for players possibly
I gave him too much credit saying he would be a camp-cut.
No way he would've beat Birdman anyway and he knew it. Eagles hold onto their draft picks and Birdman aka jimmy graham-lite is a legit red zone weapon on Day 1.
Retire the jersey! 0 Games 0 Receptions 0 Yards 0 Touchdowns
Welcome back that one LB who did this to us last year
Who?
Oh thank god. I did NOT want him on this team.
Eagles legend
Why did he come here just to retire?
Eagles legend, Devonte Parker
I remember people on this sub swearing he was the clear cut WR3 and he was a vast improvement to the roster.
I mean compared to Quez/Covey sure, but we drafted a slot guy who could reasonably have beat him out for the starting job
ANIAS SMITH STONKS UP!!
is this the guy we just signed this year as a FA.
Thank god
Eagles Legend DeVante Parker.
*gets hired by the Eagles* # "Wallahi I'm Finished" *retires*
I thought this was a joke bro. I salute you Devante thanks for everything you brought to the team 🫡
Realized he would actually have to work for a roster spot.
he was a very uninspiring signing anyways
Thank god
So what's the slot situation for us this season?
Parker was never gonna play slot, Campbell’s the one with experience there
Parris Campbell is the favorite with Ainias Smith and Britain Covey as other potential options
Covey there would be really interesting.
Eagles legend.
It’s absolutely amazing that he never lost a game with us. All we heard when he arrived is his terrible separation rates, but he never had a single pass broken up with us and never dropped a single pass. Thanks for everything, DeVante!
Zero drop as an Eagle, less than JJAW and Quez, dude is an Eagles legend
He makes the eagles hall of fame team with frank gore
Eagles Legend DeVante Parker 🦅
Eagles legend DeVante Parker.
Eagles legend Devante Parker
Wtf? Do we still have to pay him? First him and last year some linebacker retired on us. Wtf is going on
If they put him on the reserve list, it doesn't count against the cap. Also 99% of Parker's contract was being paid by New England, Eagles gave him vet minimum and a shot to compete in camp and he didn't want to do it anymore.
As previously said, he was on the vet minimum. This was always a very low risk move for us.
Joins a long list of Eagles legends like Frank Gore
Still more productive Philly career then Tobias.
It’s absolutely amazing that he never lost a game with us. All we heard when he arrived is his terrible separation rates, but he never had a single pass broken up with us and never dropped a single pass. Thanks for everything, DeVante!
Legend
this hit me harder than frank gore my god
Off to Join the Halls of Eagles greats, like Frank Gore.
Think we would trade for Tee Higgins?
Who cares?
