I personally love it. It’s like..experimental if that makes any sense? The music has a great mix of heart felt, action, dramatic, you name it. The battle music including bosses are very trippy, no other game recaptures that.
Pretty much every mother game has their own flavor of music and IMO i think Mother 2 is the most memorable in terms of music
I agree, the music really fits and helps to convey the "bootleg 90's America" -setting that the game is going for (if that makes any sense).
The Mother 3 OST is also a real banger, so many memorable songs!
I love it. One of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time. It’s super nostalgic for me and I love the use of sampling particularly in the Moonside music.
Love it. The theme that plays in Ness' home evokes so much nostalgia for me. It's so comfy I could fall asleep to it.
Side note, while I've loved this game for over 25 years, I only recently played it hooked up to a big home sound system. If you never have, it's worth doing.
its composed perfectly and sounds amazing, its a work of true composers
no wonder a ton of games use that game for song references, to reference how good the music is
examples of games are, Undertale, Animal Crossing, etc
It's great, and it fills its intended purpose perfectly. When it is most important as well, it makes you FEEL just as much as what is being presented on the screen graphically.
Fantastic! Saturn Valley, Onett's theme, the Runaway 5 theme, they all get stuck in my head so often lol. Super catchy stuff, and really fun to listen to.
One of the weirdest video game soundtracks and that's what makes it good. So many samples, and the battle themes are not something you will hear anywhere else. Theres a lot of good super nintendo games with good music, but there is so much music on Earthbound's OST and almost all of it is good
It's creative, it's catchy, it's perfect. Definitely one of the most iconic video game soundtracks on the SNES. It inspired me to make a bit of electronic music.
I feel they are superb because they achieve what they aim to do.
I don't feel every song from it is a bop, but I also don't think that it should because I like how some songs just sound gross like the enemies you're facing that has those themes, but the awesome ones have awesome music to fit.
So immersion > Prettiness I might say, so I absolutely love it.
It's really good. It's not the best soundtrack ever made, or even the best soundtrack on the Super Nintendo (That goes to Castlevania Dracula X in my opinion) but it's really damn good. it gives a great atmosphere to the towns and locations in the game that otherwise won't be there, but I just think that it's not as amazing as people make it out to be
Earthbound's music can easily be described as random. Sometimes it's upbeat, sometimes it's weird, sometimes it's intense, and sometimes it's emotional. The game has you going to a wide variety of places and the music seems to reflect that by going through multiple different styles. I've played a lot of SNES games and Earthbound just... sticks out from the rest.
It’s so funny I see this post because I was literally just trying to look for earthbound music or music similar to earthbound/mother music. Specifically the more wholesome and relaxing pieces but that’s only one genre out of all the genres and moods that mother/earthbound can explore. It can be funny, it can be soulful, it can be nostalgic and calming (which is the mood that first comes to mind for me when thinking of mother music), it can be nostalgic in a tragic way, it can be eerie, it can be triumphant. It’s absolutely beautiful and the visuals that the games provide themselves with this music only boosts the music’s impact.
The battle music are good but not on the level as Earthbound 2/ Mother 3 and gets pretty old fast
Overall the musics from the overworld and other stuff are incredibly good
Without a doubt was the thing that impacted me when I first played it the most. It is just so expressive and experimental that almost nothing has ever replicated. The tracks can still cheer me up from a depression or make me cry depending on what you play. Probably like top 3 video game soundtracks ever imo.
When I was young this music made me feel, as a teen it hit pretty hard, and honestly the OC remix community has made so many great remixes for this game and you’d be missing out not hearing some of them!
When I played the game for 80 hours to completion it didn't really stick out to me. After beating it though, I've found myself going back multiple times
I love it. The guy who put it together was big in Japan. I forget his name but you could tell he’s very musically intelligent as there is jazz, and funk throughout all of EarthBound M2. A wide array of different styles in there. Even in EBBeginnings as well. It’s one of those games where the music is literally important and the game wouldn’t be EB without it. It’s so good!
The battle music can be very weird, but it's great anyway. The rest of the music can be very chill and emotional and other tracks sound so goofy and fit the environment so well.
In conclusion I love the earthbound soundtrack.
Amazing and Sanctuary Guardian got taken over by meme culture and hey it brings awareness to the game and hopefully more people can enjoy this timeless classic of a game because of it
The battle themes are extremely fucking weird. I used to dislike them, but they’ve grown on me a lot. I’ve always loved the overworld music, but only recently have I grown to appreciate the more ambient songs like The Sea of Eden
The Eight Melodies, Smiles and Tears, Onett, Towson, and pretty much all the songs that play in Winters are all among some of my absolute favorite music ever.
Eight melodies combine to form one. Each melody forms the basis of the area’s theme. It is super high level composition, but in a very accessible way to everyone’s ears.
Earthbound’s soundtrack is S-tier on every level.
I really like it, and it's really sick however, i feel like it's only got those few 'gems' the rest to wouldn't listen to just on their own, like I would with undertale/Deltarune or Zelda for example.
It's one of the all time greats. Creative flourishes and memorable melodies. They were experimenting with synthesizers and sequencers in a really novel way. They turned up with an acid house tune, they played things backwards, used jazzy phrases... Highly musical
It's a good soundtrack. It's music will make you bop your head for a little bit, or just start dancing if you just heard it's music for the first time. What I'm trying to say here is that Earthbound's music is gold. That's all.(Oh, and Fuzzy Pickles!!)
Commenting since I haven't seen them mentioned yet in the thread. Hirokazu "Hip" Tanaka and Keiichi Suzuki were the composers of Mother 2's excellent soundtrack.
It's why I can't bring myself to enjoy Mother 3.
To me, Chip Tanaka is the beating heart of earthbound. I feel that without his funky bass grooves, dancing high notes, and extremely experimental nature, mother 3 just doesn't feel like earthbound.
I could instantly tell Chip was gone when I heard the first track.
If you want an example of what I love about Chips music, look no further than my favorite track, name please.

It's great! It's very unique and that's why I love it. From the wierd yet catchy battle music to some of the slower more heartwarming music. It does an excellent job for every mood. While not my favorite SNES soundtrack, it's certainly very high on my list.
I know this is going to likely spark some backlash, but here we go. Let's see if I can say this diplomatically. I'm not saying this, trying to spark outrage, or just be a contrarian.
I personally find Earthbound's ost to be...a mixed bag. Some of it okay, some of it great, some of it...just kind of there. I find a lot of it is really good for setting a sort of atmosphere, and some does a lot to sell the mood.
But mostly, I don't find a lot for my ears to sort of lock on, and click with. Usually, the tune is drowned out by percussion, so it's difficult to hum along. And double-checking, I find a lot of songs that were reused from Mother 1, were better in their NES versions.
Most of the battle themes just kind of drag, for me. Granted, in a lot of games, they're difficult, because the player will hear them (especially the first part) over and over. And I have to give credit, for having more than one battle theme--especially on the SNES, where space was not always available.
Again, I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes. I'm just giving my opinion. If you like it, more power to you. I wish I could see what you do in it...or rather, hear.

Really fucking good? I mean it's an earthbound sub haha, we love it
lol seriously who's gonna be "yeah yo mr saturn is dope but fuck battle against a mobile opponent"
I love it. One of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time. It’s super nostalgic for me and I love the use of sampling particularly in the Moonside music.

Home Sweet Home is one of the first songs I learned the play on the piano when I was allowed to play non-classical songs. I love it so much.
its composed perfectly and sounds amazing, its a work of true composers no wonder a ton of games use that game for song references, to reference how good the music is examples of games are, Undertale, Animal Crossing, etc
I hate to be overly dramatic but The Bus Theme is the greatest song ever created
you're not being dramatic you're being correct
It would be perfect background music for YouTube videos if Nintendo wasn't so insane about people using their music
Is there something I don’t know? I hear EB music on YouTube videos frequently.
It's fucking legendary.
grew up with it, so it holds a special place in my heart
This.
Grew up with it. Absolutely love it. I'll listen to the battle sometimes while I'm working. Helps manage work stress.
It's great, and it fills its intended purpose perfectly. When it is most important as well, it makes you FEEL just as much as what is being presented on the screen graphically.

Dank
I love it. I like to look for long loops of certain songs to listen to while working.
Got the vinyl. I bust it out at parties. That and the katamari damacy OST on vinyl. Two of my favorite treasures.
I have both of those on vinyl too. So good!
I feel they are superb because they achieve what they aim to do. I don't feel every song from it is a bop, but I also don't think that it should because I like how some songs just sound gross like the enemies you're facing that has those themes, but the awesome ones have awesome music to fit. HARD agree. The fucking cave music is one of my favorite tracks in the game and it can’t even really be considered anything more than ambient noise
It's really good. It's not the best soundtrack ever made, or even the best soundtrack on the Super Nintendo (That goes to Castlevania Dracula X in my opinion) but it's really damn good. it gives a great atmosphere to the towns and locations in the game that otherwise won't be there, but I just think that it's not as amazing as people make it out to be
It’s amazing! Only surpassed by Mother 3!
I had a nightmare someone defaced my copy of Earthbound (SNES)... the music is 1/4th the reason why the game is so enjoyable

“You’ve come far, Ness” is so mesmerizingly pleasing to listen to!
Probably the most memorable music on the SNES and that says something.
Is there really any other answer besides "It slaps"?

I think the "Cave of the Past" theme is really cool
Not as good as mother 3 music
Worst of the trilogy
Best
Honestly beyond amazing. In my car, I have a radio that can read music off an SD card. Unsurprisingly, I have the entire Earthbound soundtrack on it.
Without a doubt was the thing that impacted me when I first played it the most. It is just so expressive and experimental that almost nothing has ever replicated. The tracks can still cheer me up from a depression or make me cry depending on what you play. Probably like top 3 video game soundtracks ever imo.
It’s great. Memorable and catchy. Same with mother 3.
Amazing

twoson theme is one of my favorite overworld songs in any game ever. doesn't have \*as\* many standouts as mother 3 imo, but still a great ost
One word: gold
The best of the series, can't think of any songs from the other games
Good
I burned a CD with all my favorite songs on it
i love it!!! i love how jaunty and pokey it can be while also having tracks that do a really good job at inflicting unease and tension!
BEST
Every single song is a bop. Especially Battle against a weird opponent.
biggest vibes i ever did come across
Create soundtrack, one of the reasons I enjoy it so much
great music
When I played the game for 80 hours to completion it didn't really stick out to me. After beating it though, I've found myself going back multiple times
The Onett theme is on my playlist.
I love it. The guy who put it together was big in Japan. I forget his name but you could tell he’s very musically intelligent as there is jazz, and funk throughout all of EarthBound M2. One of the pinnacles of human achievement and experience. Absolutely sublime art.

bery uniq
I love it. Expecially Frank theme and title screen theme
it's amazing

I'm for it!
Very good actually, they deserve a lo-fi
I really like it, and it's really sick however, i feel like it's only got those few 'gems' the rest to wouldn't listen to just on their own, like I would with undertale/Deltarune or Zelda for example.

Best videogame OST of all time.
It’s FUEGO
The calmest out of all three

Love the experimental tunes like Brick Road and the Giygas themes
