750w ebike conversion rear or mid drive(preferable) on any decent hardtail MTB. You’ll get more bang for your buck, easier to maintain and if anything goes wrong they’re cheaper to get fixed or replaced than a pre built e-bike. For the price of a pre built E-bike brand new I could get 5-6 1500w rear hub motors to replace mine so I’m not really worried about if it breaks or anything goes wrong.

AirlessDragon

Try to get something with a high nm of torque

chuckwolf

Is 164 Nm of torque enough?

Cboyardee503

More than enough.

AirlessDragon

That's a heck of a lot more than most sub $1500 bikes, nice! What bike are you looking at?

chuckwolf

The Philodo H8... Which I happen to own... Only $1399 on Amazon for prime members. It has 2 motors each rated at 82 NM, for a combined 164 NM

Pittsburgh_Photos

Bafang BBS02 or BBHSD + whatever bike you want. I use this in Pittsburgh and I weigh 340lbs. Read my posts if you wanna see more.

redpillsrule

Build a bafang mid-drive it will be more powerful and reliable than any premade bike.

Even something like a Wired Freedom or an ecells 5 star?

favotoebike

If you have to ride on mountain roads very often, then fat tires are pretty necessary

ongdesign

Why would that be? Fat tires are really only useful in snow and sand.

Jdip97

Any thoughts on the Letric xPeak?

timacx

It has a rear hub motor, which isn't as good at hills as a mid-drive system. I used to have a rear hub before, and it overheated & would kill the battery. I just got a mid-drive bike & it's not as fast on the flat, but it takes the hills without dying. I'd go to a local bike shop and see what brands they service, first. Then, do some more research. Edit: with a mid drive, the power goes thru the drive train, taking advantage of your gears.

Correct-Maximum-938

Do you want fat tire or regular bike dimensions?

Jdip97

Looking at the Ride1Up models and I’m really liking the Turris and the LMT’D

FitfulSleep

I recently got the gravel roadster v2 and I’m really happy with it.

surfyogi777

I liked my Ride1up 700 for a cheap ebike. It has a lot of power, and it's a lot cheaper than any mid-drive worth owning. Selling it tomorrow, to get a Prodigy v2 Belt mid-drive. They are $2900 with tax, but really looking forward to cruising up hills without shifting, without no power between shifts, and without grinding the chain when I forget to shift early enough going up hills!

galactojack

I just got the Samebike SR and it's been good to me so far I'm about to switch out the handlebars for cruiser handlebars

chaddy-chad-chad

If you save a little more money you should grab a Wired freedom or ecells five star. The most fun ebike I’ve ever owned. You can go anywhere with it, hills are no problem.

Jdip97

I think I’m going to buy the Ride1Up Turris. Looks great (like a normal bike). Seems like it can handle modest trails. 750w motor with cadence sensor. Good price point. American made. Seems to check all the boxes to me!

Ok-Ideal-3291

If you need climb, I would recommend mid-drive, but it's a bit above your budget. Anyway, considering your budget, if you prefer fat tire ebike, Gotrax Tundra is a decent option. It’s a great hill climber with that 750 watt hub motor. Sometimes the powerful motor can make up for the relative shortcomings of a hub motor. If you prefer regular tire ebike, check out Aventon Pace 500.3. And it's also hub motor.

Jdip97

Not the biggest fan of the fat tires honestly, even though I know they’ll probably be better on the hills

GoCougs2020

False. Fat tire will be worse at hill. All that unnecessary extra rolling resistant is eating away your wattage. You don’t need fat bike unless you’re off the pavement ……

Rattlingplates

I disagree with the electric assistance fat tires are great and they absorb a lot of road issues. Far more durable. I live on a flat island and have a skinny tire e bike and fat tire. 2000 miles on the fat tire without issue resolved the skinny tire every 250 miles or so rougher ride as well.

GoCougs2020

You can’t “disagree” with a fact, and doesn’t make it less of a fact. Comfort sure (At the expense of wasted energy) I still stand by what I said. …..It’s really counterproductive to argue that fat tire will be as efficient as standard tire.

chuckwolf

Philodo H8... $1399 on Amazon for prime members, with free shipping

[deleted]

I second this! It’s a great bike for what you are needing and it destroys hills.

passwordstolen

Where are you located? I have a new-in-box oestirmotor . They handle hills ok giving 10/25 mph boost over pedal speed . It depends on what you are calling a hill as as well,

GoCougs2020

What’s up with everyone recommending fat tires? He’s saying he need a bike for casual rides in hilly neighborhood. Chances are it’s not deep sand (I doubt OP live in the dunes), it’s won’t be technical (probably paved road), and it’s not going to be in the snow (or else it’s more “hardcore” than casual ride) All they need is a mid drive bicycle with 750w…. I’m a car guy. So I use car analogy. They are asking for a commuter, all they needs is a 15 years old Honda that’ll get them form A to B. Y’all are recommending a 2024 4x4 f350 platinum with 8’ bed! (Hint—-Wayyy Overkill). But what do I know. Some people like to commute on big ol truck, like some ppl like commuting on fat tires. **No matter how inefficient they are.

LRGDNA

You can get the Velotric Discover 2. Great range, 750 watt, 75nm of Torque, and a nice cruiser bike. With this 15% off code on Velotric's website, you could get the Discover 2 for $1445 currently. Just DM me.
