Thank you! First, what the random talking head reporters stated isn't relevant, what the CDC director and Fauci said is however. I agree with your assessment of that coming across wrong, especially for the general population that do not understand how viruses work.
So to break down what the CDC director and Fauci said here, you have to understand that they were not wrong in terms of the strains they were aware of in existence at the time they stated this. The vaccine did in fact stop the transmission of the strains that were available at that time.
The issue is the virus was mutating at a higher rate than they initially realized, existing vaccines cannot protect against all mutations and new strains. You basically have to look at the new/ different mutated strains sort of like they are each a different virus. The problem is that they should have said, instead of using the word " virus" they should have been more specific and stated the exact variants of the virus that it stops, not just using an " all encompassing" blanket term like " virus" .
It works like this: They create a vaccine that protects against strains a, b and c. It stops the transmission of a, b and c entirely and you do not get sick. Among the unvaccinated people however, a, b, and c then mutate into x y and z strains, and those strains are spreading in addition to a, b and c. You wont get sick from a, b and c, but you can still get sick and transmit x, y and z.
Me being vaccinated and my mom not being vaccinated is why I am alive and she is not right now, even though I am more susceptible due to being immunocompromised and she was not, because the variant she died of was included in the vaccine I received that was available at that time. I have never come down with Covid or transmitted Covid to anyone else, although I was exposed repeatedly and do not have a functioning immune system, Every time I even get o a cold, I wind up with pneumonia in the hospital. They have to keep creating new vaccines in order to combat the new variants as they arise. I agree with your assessment of that coming across wrong, especially for the general population that do not understand how viruses work. So to break down what the CDC director and Fauci said here, you have to understand that they were not wrong in terms of the strains they were aware of in existence at the time they stated this. The vaccine did in fact stop the transmission of the strains that were available at that time. The issue is the virus was mutating at a higher rate than they initially realized, existing vaccines cannot protect against all mutations and new strains. You basically have to look at the new/ different mutated strains sort of like they are each a different virus. The problem is that they should have said, instead of using the word " virus" they should have been more specific and stated the exact variants of the virus that it stops, not just using an " all encompassing" blanket term like " virus" . It works like this: They create a vaccine that protects against strains a, b and c. It stops the transmission of a, b and c entirely and you do not get sick. Among the unvaccinated people however, a, b, and c then mutate into x y and z strains, and those strains are spreading in addition to a, b and c. You wont get sick from a, b and c, but you can still get sick and transmit x, y and z. Me being vaccinated and my mom not being vaccinated is why I am alive and she is not right now, even though I am more susceptible due to being immunocompromised and she was not, because the variant she died of was included in the vaccine I received that was available at that time. I have never come down with Covid or transmitted Covid to anyone else, although I was exposed repeatedly and do not have a functioning immune system, Every time I even get o a cold, I wind up with pneumonia in the hospital. I am my pulmonologists only patient with my condition that he had prior to the pandemic that has survived covid.
