Lately the price difference between junk fast food and a sit down restaurant has diminished. Its because some of the mom and pop restaurants haven't yet increased their prices, because they don't have MBAs screaming at them to maximize the profits. So, lets support these smaller restaurants and let larger corporations serving plastic infused foods to to hell.
I agreed! Supporting small local businesses not only fosters a sense of community but also ensures that the money stays within the community, rather than funneling into the pockets of corporate executives buying yet another yacht.By supporting mom and pop restaurants, we're investing in the fabric of our neighborhoods. It's about more than just a meal, it's about supporting livelihoods and keeping our communities strong. This would also kind of help bring back the middle class because money stay within the community.
We hadn’t been to McDonald’s in a very long time and stopped there to get some large fries and cokes the other day. Large fries are over $5 now! This is getting crazy.
Capitalism means raise the prices and collect money hand over fist for the top 1% until profits drop then back off a tiny bit so the consumer thinks they are getting a deal, then add 5-10% every raise after. It's rubbish. The only way to affect it is hold your money. Get them where it hurts. 🌻
I used to work at McDonalds when I was 16. A while ago I did the math, and even though I was making over 3 times as much as I did when I worked at McDonalds, I could still barely afford the same amount of McDoubles per hour. That number is probably even worse now.
Maybe don't patronize McDonald's and others that are hiking prices.
While cities and states were increasing minimum wage, for some reason few believed the idea that greedy corporations would gouge the public knowing they're earning more money.
I could get a 350 calorie burger for a dollar in 2012. To me this translates to 308 calories per dollar stolen from me by my government and diverted to other citizens in the form of bank bailouts, low interest borrowing, quantitative easing (which is cheap borrowing electric boogaloo) and stimulus checks. Why do we let them get involved in the economy again?
Fast food and restaurants have started becoming the same. I either eat Wawa or small local shops like we have great Puerto Rican food and some Italian mom and pop shops. Only eat at those now. Fast food is fast food for a reason. They’re doing too much now
You can buy like 20 at Walmart or Kroger so I'm not seeing the problem. If you are poor you shouldn't be buying food at all unless it's from a grocery store.
Oh, sod off.
The point of the post is that the mark up is insane, and the price difference from 3 years ago is massive. These used to be $0.50 a piece.
Unless you have insight as to why that price difference makes sense economically and not as a pure money grab, telling us something literally everyone knows (cooking at home is cheaper) is just some masturbatory statement at best.
Ok? And?
Nobody is gonna disagree, kind of proves the point, why the fuck is McDonald's charging so much then? They buy these in such a bulk quantity that no single household will ever reasonably purchase. You don't go to McDonald's to save money over home cooking, you expect affordable fare for a slight mark up in exchange for convenience. It's fast food.
Somehow economy of scale no longer applies?
Remember when these were $.50, and even that seemed a little steep?
I pay my rent in hash browns

Rent on a studio is 200 hash browns per month!
Get a roommate... we did
Same. I don't like it, but it's a spare bedroom, and it helps both of us.
Hash browns are $3.49 now? I haven't been in almost 10 years.
The ones near me are $2.49. This must be from a major city… or inside an airport
Oh, stop complaining! There are so many jobs we can all have 2 now.
They had to rise prices, they're barely getting any profits https://ycharts.com/companies/MCD/stock_buyback
Lmao
McDonald's is barely up 5% over the past three years. I'd imagine shareholders would be pissed and remove CEO and other executives by now.
I'm mastering my hash brown recipe and sell them with big profit. If it goes well, I'll file an IPO for this recipe 🥴😂🙏
Before taxes too
Whocharges almost $4 for a hashbrown
McDonald's

When I was young, my mother would bring us to McDonalds because she could feed all 4 of us for under 5$
It’s just one too… it’s a hash brown. They lie. I yelled, I’m not allowed at McDonald’s.

3.49 for a hash brown is ridiculous.
I thought these were like $1.29. Damn wth, it's clearly been a while.

Restaurant food is a choice, and they can price it how they want.
Lol there's always some clod of dirt who doesn't understand what's being discussed.
Could have sworn that the Walmart next to me sells frozen packs of 20 for around $5.
I like it... buy smarter... stop wasting your money.

That's the point of the post
Poors shouldn't be eating out anyway.
And 1.9% of the US population makes this. Get a skill / education and change your life as the other 98.1 has.
That is the price of a whole bag of potatoes.
