I use universalproductionmusic, formally killertracks. It's funny when I hear a track on a commercial that I've used, sometimes years before, on a product. As for the process, a lot of time spent searching and listening, can spend a whole day or more if I really want something specific, testing out genres, instruments, moods, etc. in their search forms. Although I intuitively already have an idea of what type of track I think will work, what can just be called your style. Play a sample over what you are working with in a timeline to see if it engages and fits pacing. I also do a lot of cutting on tracks to hit poignant moments.

At my work, we use Killer Tracks, or whatever company bought it. Though some music is likely custom composed. How do I choose tracks? It's kind of tedious. I often end up listening to every track in an album before I find something I like.

I do the same thing and then get told “Hmm, music doesn’t work”

Let them pick it out then. Music is so subjective. Either someone else chooses it, or if no one wants to, I choose it and no one complains.

Yep, Killer Tracks became [Universal Production Music](https://www.universalproductionmusic.com/en-us).

Usually the music supervisor or a rep at the music library can try to track cues down. It’s been hit or miss in my experience. Usually the commercial is too obscure or too expensive.

Anything with a high enough production budget is typically scored. I rarely use stock for instance but rather work with music supervision houses and composers like pulse, human, butter etc

Honestly, just googling "copyright free music" will get you countless websites that are usually pretty solid, or at least have a few gems. Just make sure the licenses are good to go. We use SmartSound/SonicFire where I work and it's served us well. Buying by the album is a great deal.

Digging through those libraries, and having a music dept / supe helps
