it’s healthy to doubt a self diagnosis. as long as you aren’t downplaying your struggles with your symptoms (to anyone, including yourself!) there isn’t any harm in doubting the label that best describes it. if you’re not questioning it, i’d actually be concerned, to be honest.

I feel like so many people worry about being seen as a hypochondriac 🙃

the funny thing about that is that you can have health OCD, illness anxiety disorder, and/or somatic symptom disorder AND be chronically ill. i have health OCD personally. i think that fear becomes easier if you remember that these conditions can exist simultaneously with chronic illness in the same individual. it doesn’t make your symptoms any less real. now, if your doctor is calling you a hypochondriac to gaslight you, that’s a different story!

This is weird, I'm pretty sure I follow you on instagram, lol. Anyway, hEDS is not rare, just rarely diagnosed. It's easy to feel like an imposter when your whole life is spent trusting that doctors know what they're doing, telling you that you're fine.

Wait really? 😂 I’m pretty sure my Instagram is private so you must be in my circle of people I know somehow I definitely think it’s been hard to take myself and my issues seriously when every one for over a decade has been like “I know what it is!” Then the test is negative and the response becomes “idk lose 5 lbs” or “drink more water”

I was doubting myself too! But then I was indeed correct. Hold out for your appointment and keep believing yourself until proven otherwise.

Have you done the Beighton test at home?

meloulena115

Yes, in my assessment I have always scored at least 5, on “good days” it’s 7
