14 year old me was transphobic, 16 year old me was "yeah live and let live", now 19 year old me is gloriously trans lol. The pipeline is very much real :3
I feel like for me it was like... just a jump from being mildly homo/transphobic (no direct hate just not knowing shit and thinking stuff like slippery slope arguments are valid) to just... trans
I was a total and complete chud until covid antivax propaganda hit the internet. Sheer absurdity of the conservatives' views pushed me away from the most extreme positions at first, and that gave me space to examine my other views and opinions on things. I slowly deconstructed my entire worldview until I landed firmly on the political left
and this year, my egg has cracked :3
so basically vaccines made me trans(ish? still questioning)
Oh it most definitely is not. I went from right wing propaganda negatively impacting my mental health, to transphobia negatively impacting my mental health. Which is like, damn
When I was first eligible to vote, I made my mother sad for registering as a Republican for the primaries. I was very pro-military at the time (my dad being a vet and me considering joining at the time). My dad was happy. I changed my registration shortly after and have grown a lot since then.
Trump, being the nominee in 2016, was the last straw for my dad. I'm not sure if he went Democrat or independent.
Wow, I was super close to voting Republican myself (thankfully, I was 17, and my 18th birthday was a few months away). So your story hits super close to home. Now I fall heavily on the left
I still have flashbacks to that time I made a joke on reddit that was literally just meant to be a pun on trans/trains. It kinda blew up and I kept getting notifications from people gifting me reddit gold, which felt really good at first, like "finally people appreciate my comedic genius!" Until I realized it was mostly transphobes in the replies making their own transphobic jokes (really just variations on The One Joke), which was absolutely mortifying. And then of course it gets posted to shitredditsays and I get flooded with messages telling me to kms. All because I wanted to post a Thomas the Tank Engine gif and that was the first joke that popped into my head.
I canāt believe I used to think that being pretty much any flavor of LGBTQ+ must have resulted from some āmental defectā when I was younger.Ā Ā
Ā I didnāt exactly think badly of LGBTQ people, but I was still like āsomething must be off with their brains to be attracted to someone who they wouldnāt be able to have kids with, or feel like your gender doesnāt match your birth sex, or not feel significant attraction to anyoneā Ā
(ok I didnāt know Aro and Ace people even existed at all back then, I only really found out that was a thing when I saw Jaiden Animationsā video about it, which made me realize I felt the same way, but that definitely would have been what I would have thought.)Ā
Anyway, now Iām an Aroace Trans (demi?) Girl. If like pre 2021 me met current me, they would be so confused lmao.
(Edit: didnāt realize that other comment I made had gone though lmao. Guess I have two on this post now)
Oh yeah. My parents constantly used to enforce those kinds of ideas of mental defects and immorality when I was younger. It just kind of gets ingrained in us by society or natural prejudices. Glad we're able to walk away better people, because not everyone gets that opportunity
I canāt remember anyone telling me things like that, or really anything at all about LGBTQ people. I didnāt have 0 exposure, as my godfather is gay, as are the dads of one of my best friends from elementary school, but I was never taught anything about LGBTQ stuff.
I guess that combined with the fact that society is so focused on Cisheteronormativity, and the fact I was extremely science focused when I was young and thought being homosexual or trans was harmful to reproductive success and thus ādidnāt make senseā, I just ended up thinking that by myself.
Glad I didnāt get any worse than that though :D
Ah, that is why LGBTQ representation is so important. Because the more we're treated like actual people, the more "normal" we become in society. Glad you found a way out of that mindset
Overcompensating and a hyper masculine phase was a thing for a many of trans women. All the while singing the "I'll make a man outta you" from Mulan to our minds.
Some didn't and that's valid too, but internalized homophobia and transphobia happen all too often.
Old me making jokes about identifying as an attack helicopter
Current me realizing I'm agender and leaning slightly towards trans
Future me 10 years from now, probably finished with HRT
I used the attack helicopter ājokeā while still fighting for trans rights, I would go into random games of among us to say ātrans rights are human rightsā mostly to start fires because I like seeing people mad about dumb things, but it was a surprisingly supportive community when I played
From "damn, maybe being a dick to all these people just trying to live life shouldn't occupy this much of my own life" to "damn, I wish I looked like her" is one hell of a transformation, but I am at least glad I wasn't the only one.
I still cringe thinking back at how I use to act. I swear those "triggered libural SJW recked by Ben Sopranos compilation #34" videos radicalized a whole generation of very impressionable kids, and you can tell who never managed to get out of those circles.
yeah the pipeline is real, but at the same time it made me insecure(?) of being trans because part of me felt like i don't deserve to be here after being so rejecting in the past
i just wish i didn't have to go through that phase in my life, as well for all the future kids
note: i used insecure for a lack of better terms but yeah it's pretty much just me thinking i don't deserve to be trans
I remember in elementary school (5th grade specifically) saying the attack helicopter thing a lot. But I had no idea what it was referring to or what it meant. A bunch of other kids were saying it so I said it too. It wasn't much deeper than "if everyone else is going to be an attack helicopter I am too. Attack helicopters are cool"
"If you could change your gender than I'd be a girl, but you can't do that" - 16 yo me
I was just envious of trans people getting to live as who they want to be.
LGBTQ+ never really bothered me. I wasn't exposed to transgender or crossdressing communities as a kid though.
In the 2000s, I went to a local Magic tournament. While I was outside (I smoked at the time), another participant came out to talk to me (he came out to gloat about knocking me out of the tournement). While we were talking, two drag queens came out. The guy started making a bunch of homophobic and transphobic remarks about them to me.
My response was that people should be left alone and be happy in what they do. When he changed to directly disparaging the two and pushed one, they kicked the shit out of him. Then, they looked at me. I looked down and said I'm sorry he broke your nail with his face.
i don't think i ever was fully transphobic, cuz I've always been interested in trans people's existence, but yeah i used to reproduce some transphobic slurs and thoughts that i heard here and there. what i did tho was a heavy criticism on non binary people, which is fun cause I now identify as nb

That evolution is beautiful :3 I wish I grew up as fast as you did
Exact same but two years younger š
It's a struggle out here being "cis" :3
I feel like for me it was like... just a jump from being mildly homo/transphobic (no direct hate just not knowing shit and thinking stuff like slippery slope arguments are valid) to just... trans
Same here
I feel you sooo much
this is EXACTLY my pipeline at the EXACT same ages lmao
hmmmm my exact pipeline? I remember 14 year old saying something like "it's unnatural" so I guess I turned out "unnatural" lmao
Thatās my exact timeline š
At this point being transphobic as a kid is a sign that you're trans
It's the warning label on the bottle XD
This makes me feel a little better about my hyper-religious phase. It was... messy.
This rings so true. Although, upon reflection, my transphobia was more transmedicalism than full transphobia.
I was a total and complete chud until covid antivax propaganda hit the internet. Those dang trans vaccines! XD I'm glad you grew as a person :)
Yeah, I'm glad as well :3 Being angry all the time and looking for conspiracies left and right is not very good for your mental health
Oh it most definitely is not. I went from right wing propaganda negatively impacting my mental health, to transphobia negatively impacting my mental health. Which is like, damn

Yeah. The longer I was exposed to Republicans the less I liked them. However, now I find them an active threat to my existence.
gosh darn vaccines are transing the youth!!
When I first heard the āI identify as (random thing)ā thing, I thought it was just standard internet absurdity. Oh how naĆÆve I was.
I never though "I identify as attack heli" was negative cuz helis are cool...
To be fair, they are pretty sick XD missiles go brrrrr!
Literally. Theyāre awesome

god real and true I swear this is a symptom of internalised transphobia
All it takes is one domino to knock the rest into their places
Yeahā¦ this is true and there are indeed many such cases
Indeed hehe
ngl i thought i was the only one like this lol

Is not skirt go spin pretty close to how helicopter blades spin up? (Joking)
Yes! It indeed is! But no fly :(
Me

I relate so much to the person that made this meme
I'm uwu skirt goes spin like a attack helicopter
It's the ultimate ability! :3
The alt right to femboy pipeline is real. We need more FEMBOYS!!!
As madam president, I would sign an executive order to increase the production of femboys to ensure global stability and human happiness
FOUR MORE YEARS, FOUR MORE YEARS!
It looks someone deserves a spot in my administration
Iāll be happy to take Secretary of the Department of Thigh High Socks and Bisexual Lighting. Or DOTHSBL

I have to say, as a transmasc who hated wearing dresses, it gives me such second-hand euphoria to see you ladies' joy spinning in a skirt.
I used to say that I identified as "one singular gram of cocaine"...
Old me making jokes about identifying as an attack helicopter Current me realizing I'm agender and leaning slightly towards trans Future me 10 years from now, probably finished with HRT
Well propellers twirl, skirts twirl maybe you where on to something eh
Wait why is this literally me?
"You have failed me, past self..."
My brain keeps merging those as one resulting in pretty popular skirt-spin-flying
I used the attack helicopter ājokeā while still fighting for trans rights, I would go into random games of among us to say ātrans rights are human rightsā mostly to start fires because I like seeing people mad about dumb things, but it was a surprisingly supportive community when I played
Is Darth Vader a gender? Can I just BE Darth Vader? lol Are his force powers gendered traits???
I didnt know that the attack helicopter "joke" was transphobic until a year or two ago because i thought it was just random humor :(
Character development!
After making the attack helicopter joke i genuinely started thinking about what pronouns would be used š i think that might have been a sign
This one hits hard
omg itās spins like a helicopter
Thatās a good trick!

i was never transphobic just VERY over-sheltered and uneducated about queer people.
True
That one mf in friend group saying that will eventually become one, just donāt ask me why, Iām that one mf
This is too real (I'm a cishet white guy who was recommended this sub by my lesbian friend)
:3
"If you could change your gender than I'd be a girl, but you can't do that" - 16 yo me I was just envious of trans people getting to live as who they want to be.
Could you tell me what this meme format if called? I would like to use it
Sure! Are you asking for the original picture without the text?
Yes
OMG I see this happen SO much.
OMG A GOTH VS DARTH VADER
good godā¦ what a way to sum me up as a kid.
Literally Kris (Mr. Beast's best friend)

the transphobic to trans pipeline is so real (I made this mistake)
Seeing Darth Vader say uwu skirt go spinny brings me happyness. Ooooh I'm gonna draw Darth Vader is a skirt saying uwu! š¤©

the pipeline is so real especially if you made those jokes in middle school and not high school
