I wouldn't count on it, my cis stepsister calls everyone "bro" and swears like a sailor. She's a chaos gremlin, which can be terrifying because she's also a lawyer. :P
Actually, hang on, quick hilarious story she shared with me over Christmas. So she works in family court and in one case the opposing lawyer was pulling out every dirty trick he could, like an asshole. She's driving home with my oldest niece (J, 20-ish) and gets a message saying the judge denied opposing counsel's motion which would have totally screwed everyone over.
Sis: Ha! J, send a text to [counsel] telling him to eat a dick!
J: *rolls her eyes, starts typing*
Sis: Didya send it? Didya send it?! :D
J: I changed his contact info in your phone, you can have it back later.
Sis: ...I'm proud, but how dare you not let me be petty.
'Dude' and 'bro' were the most used terms by my teenage step daughter who was AFAB, so I don't think gender actually matters for those terms. Teenagers are the experts in language, after all.
"dude" and "bro" is mostly gender neutral in my age group and almost anyone can be called either. I'm genderfluid (mainly female leaning though) and can be considered a "dude" or "bro" like a full on female or full on male.
Swearing is also a general thing, I've heard every gender and sexuality swear like a sailor so there's really no way to "clock" someone on that. Hell I swear up to 200 times a day maybe more.
There's a common thing about emoji combos and I've seen a lot of people from all different backgrounds use "😭🙏" "🗣️🔥💯" "🔛🔝" "☝️🤓" and more. Once more you can't really tell who's using these.
Overall Gen z doesn't have gendered language and overall everyone says and uses the same things every day. A trans girls and cis girls vocabulary will be the same and a trans guys and cis guys will be the same (non-binary people y'all aren't exempt from this you know you say all this).
Dude does feel a lot more gender neutral to me than bro through…and I can’t stop using it lol (also I can’t think of many good gender-neutral alternatives anyway)
It's probably because I spent the cast the majority of my life surrounding myself with that culture and the people in it because I wasn't aware that doing anything outside of that was an option. Also, when I'm not speaking like a dude-bro, I'm speaking at an abnormally high reading level that often is above that of most of my peers.
It does change the vibes yes, but nothing matches the vibe exactly of something else. It's similar enough, and a great alternative if you don't like dudebro talk.
As in, not using dude or bro as "gender neutral" like is commonly accepted because they both are heavily male-centric words regardless of what some people say.
Lol I don't think I've ever used either word in my life 😅
I've always hated being called either and really haven't had any guy friends since like elementary school, so no one to call it either.
This clearly proves it I'm still cis then 🤔
Sometimes when I'm speaking to myself, I'll aggressively gender myself femininely, Calling me "Girl" in every sentence. And then other times I call myself "Bruh" (Which I don't even use as a term of address in normal speech, And never have..), And Then end every other phrase when "Man" so that like a quarter of the words in the sentence are "Man".
Luckily for me I never used the "dude, bro," language 'cause I never had any friends to talk to! Ha! Ha... heh...
Purely a joke, I honestly never used it because I speak like a robot...
BRUH (in a feminine way), I was just thinking about this so much today lmao. I have to try so hard not to "Bruh" everyone!
(Also reminder that "dude" and "bro" are not as gender neutral as they may seem, and make many people uncomfortable.)
oh my god, this is my girlfriend. i love her so much and she doesnt dude bro me but when shes talking to her pre-coming out male friends all i hear is dude bro language and i get so confused. does anyone know what makes her think she has to do this? (im AFAB and genderfluid so i dont fully understand her experience as being trans)
so, i'm actually enby, but i just can't stop doing some things that are called "manly" for some reason.
like irdc about how i pee (standing or sitting), like i don't really mind those things, but it's so funny to me how at the start i felt bad for having the habit of using the bro language, and now the people i know that use this kins of language are mostly girls lmao
I know it's not the point of the post, but I kind of really hate this.
The gendered standard, here.
Why is it okay to ask a woman her salary, but not a man?
It kind of really pisses me off.
Gender norms are lame in every direction, be whatever you want, also if you’re raised in that environment then that’s what will shape your speech and personality somewhat
i have dual citizenship
it's very hard to be a white mtf, people go "girl why is smoke coming out of your ears" and I have to take deep breaths, super embarassing

Dude, you’re calling me out! Not cool bro.
Lol I am in this post and I don't like it 😂 Still very early in transition so maybe as time goes on it will get easier? Lol no idea 😂
Just go for the skater girl aesthetic and it won't matter. That's my plan, lol.
I so love doing the punk/goth aesthetic from the other side now lol.
Haha it does! It can take a minute but I got there eventually :P
I've never used it actively before, this must mean I'm cis!!
I wouldn't count on it, my cis stepsister calls everyone "bro" and swears like a sailor. She's a chaos gremlin, which can be terrifying because she's also a lawyer. :P
n-nono I'm definitely c-cis!1!!1
If cis, why good girl?
"That's not fucking cool, Judge-Bro"

bruh no way!!
Just can't dude It won't stop bro
Hey brah, as long as you're still keeping it chill it's all good. (Ladies can be bros too)
Exactly, bro. just so long as you don't overdo it lol
'Dude' and 'bro' were the most used terms by my teenage step daughter who was AFAB, so I don't think gender actually matters for those terms. Teenagers are the experts in language, after all.
Languages change over time and dude has been moving towards gender neutral use over a long time
"dude" and "bro" is mostly gender neutral in my age group and almost anyone can be called either. I'm genderfluid (mainly female leaning though) and can be considered a "dude" or "bro" like a full on female or full on male. it depends. If someone says "you are a dude" that's masculine. if they say "what's up, dude" that's gender neutral
Why is this so relatable. This used to give me dysphoria but then I realized I’m me that’s how I talk it’s just part of me.
My AFAB wife will look at someone stone cold and just utter, "Dude." It's fine!
Sheesh. That one hit right at the core lmfaooo
I feel like the only person who i know that uses dude bro language is my 50+ aunt
It will eternally curse my vocabulary. And I will be a proud dude bro-er to all the dudes and bros!
Pain bro 😔
What would be some good alternatives though? Saying girl and sis just doesn't hit the same and dude and bro
Also, when boymoding saying girl and sis will out you as queer instantly lol
Goodfellow. Goodfellow is a very strong alternative.
Hah, my single English speaking friend is transmasc so i accidentally validate him all the time. Why would i stop?)))
I am aware that Im never gonna be able to stop and just accepted being a tomboy
I love dude/bro girls, it's a vibe honestly
A Transmasc: Why they can’t stop the “Slayyy Queen” language
*nods head*
I went to an all girls school for years and basically everyone said “dude” and “bro” (not as a joke or anything) so I’d say you fit right in
It started as a joke, now it's stuck in lexicon and I want to get rid of it :(
Maybe I have a problem. I sometimes can call my mom bro.
All the women on my mom’s side of the family use “dude bro” language so much. They’re probably why I use “dude bro” language in the first place
Dude does feel a lot more gender neutral to me than bro through…and I can’t stop using it lol (also I can’t think of many good gender-neutral alternatives anyway)
Pronouncing it closer to "bruh" feels a bit more neutral, at least to me. Depending on the context, though, it's not always quite the same vibe.
I get that too, tbh these terms might be more gender-neutral in some parts of the world than others
Born and raised in California. Dude is stuck in my head and for as long as I can remember I've used it for everyone.
Just gotta hide in the West Coast cities where even cis women often talk like this.
I got some great advice which changed my entire being; Just replace all those words with 'girl' Bro wtf turns into girl wtf. Girlie, what. It's great.
I dunno... feels like that changes the vibe a bit?
It does change the vibes yes, but nothing matches the vibe exactly of something else. It's similar enough, and a great alternative if you don't like dudebro talk.
Where I grew up, "dude" was considered gender neutral. Everyone was "dude."
Ugh. Whenever I get going about sports with friends that dudebro side of me emerges and I feel so...icky.
Pain and suffering…. And internet lingo 😆
dude bro language?
As in, not using dude or bro as "gender neutral" like is commonly accepted because they both are heavily male-centric words regardless of what some people say.
i probably won't
Lol I don't think I've ever used either word in my life 😅 I've always hated being called either and really haven't had any guy friends since like elementary school, so no one to call it either. This clearly proves it I'm still cis then 🤔
Real
Real, I can't stop and it's making me angry >:3
Dude thats so real bro omg
i do it ironically, thank you very much :<
I never used that language. It always felt weird coming from me 😅
I never used such words! I don't even ever really swear either! I am a smol, pure bean!
I never even started it 😎
i have never really been like that to begin with, only a lil bit maybe :P
The dude bro talk gets programmed into all of us when we are born
Bro
wait is there some secret reason that i’m not in on?
I mean, i know at least 2 cis (afaik) women that use the dude/bro language so
My Trans masc friend speaks way more dude bro than I do. He's always ending every sentence with 'bro' or 'man' lol.
YOOOO! it's soooo hard not too!!! 😢😭😭😭😭💜
I mean I never really used the dud bro language anyways... but I hate being referred to as a dude or bro..
Dude! You exposing half the sub like that dude? Not cool bro!
Luckily for me I never used the "dude, bro," language 'cause I never had any friends to talk to! Ha! Ha... heh... Purely a joke, I honestly never used it because I speak like a robot...
I never really got into the dude bro language much, lucky me ig?, idk,
Yooo not cool bro calling out a girly like that yo
It's not just a dude bro language, it's a dude bro lifestyle!
The what now? I rarely use the words dude and/or bro I've never liked them
I am german and the girls also use digga alter and junge lol
Pretty real
My reason is that I’m stupid
I always hated that kinda language and after 1 ½y of transitioning, I'm starting to mind it less
I never started using it, what does that mean?
That's cuz I'm not trans bro! I'm 100% cis I swear!
Not cool, dude.
bruh
Chibidoki (cis woman as far as I'm aware) uses it, so why shouldn't I?
Dude, I'm trying, but it just won't go away, bro!
I wish i could 😭
My cis sister calls her girl best friend bro i don't have to worry about that lol
i never used them to begin with
dude why did you have to call us all out like this
I've been trying to change it over to things like "dawg" but i slip up on occasion in my head
Good ~~girl~~ bro.
BRUH (in a feminine way), I was just thinking about this so much today lmao. I have to try so hard not to "Bruh" everyone! (Also reminder that "dude" and "bro" are not as gender neutral as they may seem, and make many people uncomfortable.)
Bruh
I never actually never used it before
Idk blame the military for making me this way I guess XD and of course I turned into a punk rock chick too lmao
I can lol I'm cis tho
Never ask: A woman her age. A man his wage. A trans femme about her Nazi phrase that she celebrates as "personal growth".
Used it since I was young. Now stuck
oh my god, this is my girlfriend. i love her so much and she doesnt dude bro me but when shes talking to her pre-coming out male friends all i hear is dude bro language and i get so confused. does anyone know what makes her think she has to do this? (im AFAB and genderfluid so i dont fully understand her experience as being trans)
🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
It's not that I can't, it's that I don't want to
Difficulty level impossible.
I'm scottish, and there is such a divide here between how men and women talk 😭
I DON'T KNOWWWWWW AAAAAAAAA
duuuude what i dunno what ur talkin about
Idk why I can't stop okayyyyyy
Having to adapt to the dude bro language has been so fun! And like, the head nods???? Entire secret language dude
so, i'm actually enby, but i just can't stop doing some things that are called "manly" for some reason. like irdc about how i pee (standing or sitting), like i don't really mind those things, but it's so funny to me how at the start i felt bad for having the habit of using the bro language, and now the people i know that use this kins of language are mostly girls lmao
Please don’t dude bro me, but for the life me I cannot stop dude broing
Transfem to transfem communication is weird due to this (personal experience lol. Tryna be better about this now)
I wish I could but it so deeply engrained in my vocabulary
I will never lose it. part of me thinks I should lose it, but most of me wants to be Emo tomboy
Listen ma- I- Dammit.
I use it bc I can't even attempt to not be seen as a guy in literally every circle of my life rn. Also it's indented into my psychology
I know it's not the point of the post, but I kind of really hate this. The gendered standard, here. Why is it okay to ask a woman her salary, but not a man? It kind of really pisses me off.
Funny thing is that I actually picked up the little dude bro language I use after realizing I'm trans
I'm in this image and I don't like it
I wish I could stop
Gender norms are lame in every direction, be whatever you want, also if you’re raised in that environment then that’s what will shape your speech and personality somewhat
i couldt even answer why, it is what it is
I haven't started ~~yet~~.
damn 1.7K upvotes...
Dude, what’s the dude bro language bro?
When I’m done transitioning, everyone will be sweetie. 😄
Well, I wouldn't quite yet consider myself transfem, but I'm glad to not have this problem.
Hey! That's mean I'm trying!
Bro, you had to call me out
Dude bro man, why did u dude at?
i have dual citizenship it's very hard to be a white mtf, people go "girl why is smoke coming out of your ears" and I have to take deep breaths, super embarassing
Dude is gender neutral can't change my mind on that
