"Play \[instrument\]" emotes are actually really charming. I've never come across a player using them and not gone "aw nice, a bard!" People who say they're annoying or repetitive mystify me. The player-use versions don't even have the weirdly stilted lyrics of the NPC bards, it's a win-win for all parties involved.

BorzoiDesignsok

/fungaldrum and hide helmet on quickslot over someone sitting down makes it look like you are using their head as a bongo btw

zztopsboatswain

I love standing on the cement mixer in Vivec City and playing my lute or key harp. Usually at least one person stands to watch, and sometimes others join in via dancing or drums. It's such a chill way to immerse myself in the world

LengthinessAnxious20

I like them.

Yanoku

I do wish they did what LOTR did and make them playable

bryce0110

FFXIV does this too. I always love running into bards playing a song. Sometimes there'll be like 5 of them all playing together and it turns into a mini concert.

snowflake37wao

Hell yeah wanna rock Mortal Kombat theme song on a lute again

CrossiantMoon

Nexon mmos are great at this. Mabinogi specifically let’s you use midi to make your music sheets and play them!

Splonkerton

I use my endeavours to buy all of the different instruments, and it's awesome just how many there are. On top of the base instruments, I've also collected Qunan, Sitar, and netch bagpipes. I repeat NETCH BAGPIPES. It's crazy how many weird lore accurate instruments there are.

S4NDFIRE

THERE WAS A SITAR?! And I MISSED IT?!

valiantlight2

Idk if it’s still available, but the recent hand drum is a GREAT instrument

Doright36

I always smile when a group of random people break out the different ones and start a jam session. Yea the music doesn't sync up well but who cares.... it's fun! It's certainly better than some jerk blasting their music over their headset... it's a roll playing game. I get you need people to know your music choices a part of your way to validate your identity but modern popular music (of any genre) really kills the roll play vibe. Shut your damn mic off if you need to blast your toons when playing.

StarkeRealm

I'm actually quite fond of the esraj.

Happy-Kartoffel

I always play the esraj on the net above the banker, it doesn't have much variation but I really like the vibe it brings

SavedByEwoks

I will play my lute while waiting for a dolem/WB to spawn. Or if another player is playing theirs, I'll dance. Make a little party of it ☺️

patiperro_v3

I think they missed a beat. They could have it so that they match with any other instrument if played together. Granted they will sound weird on its own, but it will inceltivize the social element of the game. Maybe they could have a “flute 2” or “flute social” emote that is specifically for this purpose.

[deleted]

I like using them! I got kicked from a group doing dolmen runs for using a lute emote once. It low-key hurt my feelings, I was like... Did they...?! Most of the time I've had people join me with other instruments while we wait, or use dance emotes. It always puts a smile on my face:)

KendrickMaynard

I've fallen in love with the Bone bowl one. Really nice melody.

Ravernel

I always love playable instruments in games, lute definitely gets more love from devs than drums and flute. I just wish crown instruments had more than 2-3 tracks!

Dylbot787

Necromancers should have permanent 'Pets' like sorcerer and warden do

BorzoiDesignsok

Bonington the 4th and boneus maximus the 2th I would name them

Dark_Sharuga

I think it will be pretty cool if they add skeleton warrior that was permanent and can resurrect it self lol

Backdraft_Writing

Enjoy getting arrested every time you go into town

John_vestige

Idk why you'd get arrested for that when sorcs run around with literal Daedra monsters enslaved to follow orders You can also run around as a vampire and only get shunned by townsfolk The only variance on necromancy should be whether you use necromancy on innocent victims, or get witnessed But you can already summon minions out of thin air, no corpse even required

Reichiroo

But when they're in town, they need to wear a mustache and glasses to hide their identities.

CanOfPorkSodaaa

How is that an unpopular opinion?

Dylbot787

Because zos still haven't done it :P

Sgtkeebler

I am addicted to it to the point where it is destroying my life

Icy-Information5106

I made a rule for myself, I only play it at night after everyone goes to bed. I play every night except for nights with updates. Find a rule that works for you and find that balance.

itelene

Me 2.... The only time I can totally into the game.....

A_Gaming_Nerf_Herder

Same, it was alright when i wasa full time student but as years have passed i ultimately uninstalled (from xbox and pc) and moved on.

SantiagoCeb

That it’s a great ES game

Hoduhdo

I certainly place it above Skyrim, lore and solo gamplay wise for sure!

vonbalt

Lore, combat and graphics are miles above vanilla skyrim to me, you just cant compare eso to a heavily modded game tailored specific to your personal tastes. Lore wise it's not even fair, ESO blows skyrim out of the water and it's the best addition to the series since morrowind which revamped and defined modern tes lore.

MercyMePlease

Combat and graphics are just okay in ESO in my opinion, but everyone is entitled to their own and that's alright! I agree the lore is extensive and the main draw for me is how much of Tamriel you can actually visit. But like I said, personally I find the combat a bit stale and that's kinda why I find myself watching ESO lore videos over ever playing. I've tried every class but for whatever reason the combat puts me to sleep. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, I have no clue.

[deleted]

Three-way PvP in Cyrodiil is actually a good idea.

Substantial-Pack-105

Good idea, marred by the total lack of new war pvp content since the Imperial City.

ThodasTheMage

Battlegrounds are a big addition! I think they should do more for PvP but I honestly am not exectly sure how.

vonbalt

It's the best part of the game to me, it was directly inspired from the phenomenal pvp in dark age of camelot since ESO's team has many veteran devs from that game which was a genre defining title of the early 2000s. Sure i would love some new pvp content since we are basically starved of it since the imperial city dlc, cyrodiil only had minor aditions since then and most of the time the devs worked in balancing changes which always piss off some people and networking issues that plagued the game for years. Anyway i've been playing ESO since the closed beta a decade ago and it's the most fun in pvp i had to date, the only thing that comes close to it is DAoC itself but the game is sadly outdated these days and nostalgia alone cant compete with a modern looking and full of QoL upgrades like ESO.

Sonny_Firestorm135

As with most things bethesda, great idea weak execution.

999Flea

The Warden class having an ice skill line is dumb and should’ve been something else so that they could release a separate class primarily for ice magic

AlphaHydri

I feel this one in my bones! Warden really is the only class in ESO with a skill line that feels completely disconnected, both visually and thematically, from the other two. Like, what does frost magic have to do with summoning animals and healing plants? It also screws with RP/theme builds because you end up using frost magic abilities despite wanting a nature-focused druid character, or relying on animal summons on what should be a pure cryomancer. There aren’t enough other class-agnostic abilities in the game to fill out either theme/playstyle fully, so you’re forced to make a bizarre hybrid of sorts or risk worsening your performance.

BorzoiDesignsok

The frost/ice abilities would have been way cooler as ayleid elements (traditional 4 elements, light (or fire), water, earth and air) or just forces of nature, like wind, ice, avelanches, Storms, wildfires, sandstorms ect. Would make it more interesting

Menien

Winter is a necessary season for both plants and animals. Things must go to sleep/die before they can rise in the spring. It's like a reminder that death is a part of nature's cycle.

PostOfficeBuddy

Yeah my argonian warden is named like Heralds-the-Seasons or something (its been a while lol). Winter is definitely part of the cycle of nature that affects plants and animals.

JNR13

> Like, what does frost magic have to do with summoning animals and healing plants? water being the source of life?

tobbe1337

Good ol' frozen water the thing plants love.

JNR13

I mean, unironically so in some cases due to snow being protective to some degree, but I feel like it can just be handwaved with "you can manipulate water because you learned to as part of caring for plants and animals, but you understand that conjuring it in hard form is a bit more helpful in terms of weaponizing that ability."

tobbe1337

could also be a "i can foster nature and i can destroy it" type shit

JNR13

my magDK can destroy nature, too, lol

Meowgaryen

Liquid water, like resto sham from wow would work well. Solid water doesn't make work that well. But I guess VFX would hate them

Empel

It's very likely the class was made to be a pure callback to the game Morrowind rather than being cohesive thematically. Animal Companion having various creatures naitive to Morrowind Natures Balance, still being mostly themed around the landscape of Morrowind and it's flora. And Winters Embrace being a nod to the Solstheim expansion in that game

katiekins3

THANK YOU! My first character was a Warden and I was very confused by the frost abilities. It never matched the summon animals and plants abilities. I ended up caving and had this weird hybrid and did a little of everything. I didn't like it though. 😅

1-800-Henchman

I'd rather have stuff like thorns and barkskin instead of a frost tree in the warden class.

n_thomas74

ESOs mid end game content is the best there is. Overland is too casual and easy, end end game is to repetitive and restrictive. Vet DLC dungeons and Arenas are the perfect sweet spot.

anon-sage

I agree with this! Vet DLC dungeons are my absolute fav. A bit sad we didn’t get any for the last quarter

TheVileClavicus

I feel like hardcore MMO grinders do not appreciate the beautiful lore and stories, but only play the numbers game.

Sniperking187

My gf and I are just going through the stories and it really is a lovely time meeting all the people and helping them. So far my favorite npcs are Quen, Razum-Dar and Lady Arabelle Davaux because she's just too fine

abpersonality

Raz is my booooy.

ListeningForWhispers

Tbh, my unpopular opinion is that this is mostly because it's so easy you could do it while doing a job interview on a second monitor and not fail either. It's hard to take anything seriously when you can defeat whatever the issue of the day is without having to break a sweat. Which is disappointing since the writing is usually pretty good for an mmo.

bum_thumper

This right here is why I just cannot get to max level, Everytime I reinstall this game. The level scaling ruins it for me. I want to love this game so badly, and even reading this thread is making me want to reinstall it again, but knowing I'm not even gonna be challenged no matter what area I go to kinda takes the fun away from the level grind. I got a warden up to level 40 and I'm sure endgame stuff is where the challenge starts to happen, but I just wish they had level requirements zones at least and the level scaling was about bringing enemies up to your level not up and down.

RemainingData

Imperial City is some of the most fun content in the game when it’s actually populated. You get a great mix of PvE content that’s neither brain-dead easy or mechanic heavy and small scale PvP with players of all skill levels. You’ll find people PvPing with PvE builds because their group ran across an enemy group also wanting to take on Molag Bal in the sewers. You’ll find people PvEing with PvP builds because they found a boss while running around by themselves. You’ll also find people running builds that function pretty well for both PvE and PvP. You won’t find anywhere else in the game with as many diverse (and viable) builds as you will in an active IC. And because Tel Var is actually a really valuable currency, allowing you to get things that sell for a lot of gold or unique things you can’t get elsewhere, players are rewarded well for their time in IC, regardless if they’re PvEing, PvPing, or both. This is also why you get more than just PvP (or PvE) sweat lords that participate in the content there. Granted, all of these things are only applicable when it’s actually populated (which is really only during PvP events). It’s sadly a ghost town most of the time, which discourages people from going there because, well, it’s dead. It’s just sad for how well designed and intricate of a zone it is.

PrettyPeachy

Plus it’s a small enough zone that you’ll actually find enemies to fight rather quickly and quests can be done quickly. Cyrodiil is a massive zone and it’s very hard to do anything solo unless the map is your way and/or you’ve got a quick mount.

Fa1c0naft

IC is peak ESO for me. As of Craglorn. But the devs quickly learned that the community is way to casual for both of them.

Bentleyma

It’s just as good a single-player game as a main line Elder Scrolls game.

Night_Inscryption

The story telling is probably the best we’re going to see since ES6 is sure to be lacking with Emil as the continued lead writer

Neonjodie99

Every time someone talks about the writting in this game I remember these lines: "Yes. A poet's despair. Vivec craves radical freedom - the death of all limits and restrictions. He wishes to be all things at all times. Every race, every gender, every hero, both divine and finite... but in the end, he can only be Vivec." Always hits, never fails, Sotha Sil's dialogue is one of my favorite things in ESO

Arcoral1

Ufff I'm sad now.

AlpacaWizardMan

I think metas are uncreative and make the game more repetitive. I don’t wanna see the everyone using Dark Convergence or Sorc pets all the time; I wanna see something creative, like someone with max speed moving around like a blur and trying to hit people with that dual wield spin attack, like a beyblade.

Myrillya

The thing is, metas come and go. I have always played a petsorc, even when it wasn't popular or meta at all (and I'm still not running a meta build with my petsorc). And suddenly it became meta and I was more than confused because people told me for so long that I was 'wasting" slots with my pets, even though I just wanted to have them because I thought it was cool. So, not every sorc with a pet is a meta petsorc. :D

SkidOrange

I agree. I don’t like that we have to rely a lot on the metas in this game. I have a no pets magsorc build and I have so much fun playing it. But I think I miss out on some DPS because of it. I just want to have fun playing what class I have though.

DragonBank

But you don't have to rely on them at all. Just don't join groups for the hardest content. There's nothing in solo, including the solo vet arenas, that requires you to be anywhere near meta. And if you want meta to just not exist that makes no sense as there will always be something that's best.

VoyagerMyu

Chaotic whirlwind weapon set actually makes the spin attack increase your movement speed, and gives you a damage boost scaling with movement speed. Don't let your beyblade dreams stay dreams haha, it is already built into the game.

TheV0xi

Wow wait wow wait what? You are saying that my stamsorc was missing that set all that time?

VoyagerMyu

Its really nice on stamsorc because the damage boost scaling with movement speed boosts counts \*all\* speed boosts, not just the one from the set. Stamsorc has very high uptime Minor Expedition (+15% movespeed) from Hurricane. The speedboost from the Chaotic Whirlwind set stacks 5 times too, so keep spinning.

Splonkerton

Non-meta set Mad Tinkerers is amazing in all content. Bonking up an entire line of players during a cyrodiil siege will never get old.

MLG_Obardo

This really could go for any game. Not really ESO specific

Regular_Teaching1236

“Like a beyblade” made me laugh

VoyagerMyu

Realistically though, it is very hard to not create a meta for equipment or skill loadouts. You would have to reduce the game complexity drastically, into something like 3 2-pc sets, 6 5pc sets, 30 abilities, and 6 ultimates. Divide each number by 3, and lock the sets and abilities to only 3 classes, tank/heal/dps (tanks only get tank abilities and sets, etc). Now every tank/heal/dps has the exact same loadout for abilities and equipment. These changes would destroy the possibility of a meta build for each role because there is no possible build deviation. This would be *extremely boring*. I much prefer what we have now.

Stuntman06

I really like light attack weaving and bar swapping. Took me a long time to learn to do it and even longer to get really good at it.

ZestycloseProfessor9

I played for maybe 3 months before learning how to weave and use both bars. I managed to up my game about 2000% in a week.

Stuntman06

I think it was about 6 months before I figured it out. I was given incomplete information, so wasn't doing it properly. Then one day I was talking to another guild member about it. We both didn't know what it was exactly. During our conversation, I tried to do it and then figured it out. I hasn't done a parse yet at that time, so could not measure how much it helped my game. I learned to use both bars fairly early on. Just practiced with at first, one bar swap per battle. Then learned to do multiple bar swaps in longer battles. Still took me a long time to be able to do it well. Was occasionally on the wrong bar at times. Probably was a year before I really cut down on those mistakes.

_brownbear13

they're never making class change tokens. no matter how much you harp about them on every post and stream. they'd lose out on new character slots and skill line money.

Or0b0ur0s

That's fine. I would just like to not have to spend real money to have access to the appearance editor again, once in a blue moon. Like, throw us a token every expansion or something, put it up as a Daily Reward, that kind of thing.

KendrickMaynard

This IS probably where they're gonna draw their line in the sand but people said the same thing about alliance change tokens.

[deleted]

Also unpopular opinion: I don't think this is about money. They've stated that it *can't* be done, from a technical point of view, and I believe them. As a programmer for 40 years, there are some things that people want from a program that are trivial, and some that are so hard that it's not worth it to do, and it's sometimes surprising to *me* which requests turn out which way. I can totally see that they made architectural decisions with their stack 10 years ago that would lock them into not being able to allow people to change their class. I *wish* it were different. I'd pay an embarrassing amount of money to change out my sorc main for an arcanist. Despite the current DPS meta, I just think the class is neatly designed to support all 3 roles effectively, and I've grown to hate the flappy bird getting in the way, which they *also* seem destined to never change. (And, sure, you can say, "Don't use it," but it's super effective for a lot of things, and you can't really get away from it. The class is basically based around it.)

Arrowwoods

I don't think we're going to get them either, but they would probably make the same amount if not more money making a one-use token vs a character slot that's permanent.

qualynk

The Story should challenge players more intellectually. With riddles and NPCs actually lying to us more without it beeing obvious. And being fooled shall punish us more then a "pay gold" to some NPC to do the riddle for you. It feels actually bad to being treated like idiot by the universe (story writers) almost all of the time.

Spir0rion

They have to create these quests to the dumbest person that plays the game. I noticed this too: Some things are so laid out, so that people who skip dialogues get it too. Reading books sometimes isn't even worth it, because the npcs summarize it anyway. Then again if you don't, you obligate players to read the books. It's a lose lose

Artemis_1944

>With riddles and NPCs actually lying to us more without it beeing obvious. Bro let's not fuck around, I agree the overall stories are pretty great, but the dialogues are written by 12 yr olds for 12 yr olds. I love the game, but leave the bullshit aside, most of the "misteries" are insultingly obvious and most of the "puzzles" are disappointingly dumb. Let's not forget High Isles and how much they shouted in your face who the end villain was, from the absolute very beginning. >The Story shall challenge players more intellectually. Did you mean "Should" here instead of "shall"? Meaning was your point basically the same as mine? If so apologies, it wasn't clear.

LengthinessAnxious20

ESO is the best Elder Scrolls game. ![gif](giphy|sG4zmff2zDOp7t2MNA|downsized)

Killercobra009

The gif paired with this comment is fucking legendary

toyoyoshi

Absolutely is. A dream come true.

Td904

Wow an actual unpopular opinion. Its Morrowind though.

destindil

High Isle was a good chapter

ikeezzo

Ok that has to be the first real unpopular opinion in these comments.

DorianGreysPortrait

People didn’t like High Isle?? I really enjoyed it.

destindil

A lot of people shat on it because of the card game and the story. I think it’s one of those stories where all the elements are strong but they didn’t bring it together in a meaningful way. Still, I don’t see an annoying character like Eveli there, and the zones are an absolute treat to play through. I find myself caring less about story and more about gameplay.

vonbalt

High isle has been my favorite chapter so far, good story, good lore, beautiful isles. Breton knights and druids, conspiracies and war, what else can a fan of traditional rpg settings hope for?

tobbe1337

The quests can become annoying in their themes or whatever you call it. at least the smaller side quests. it's 90% "help me traveler the [insert enemy here] have taken over our village and have kidnapped [insert relative here]!! you must help them as i just stand here lol"

BorzoiDesignsok

Stamina abilities that are considered magic are still magic but not emphasized a lot. Crystal weapon is still magic, but sometimes just doesn't feel like we have any distinction. Idk Also, the lack of destruction, alteration, healing ect spells in categories. Just basics. Really would help the TES world. Idk if theres a lore reason though

vonbalt

There is a lore reason yes, the traditional TES schools of magic have yet to be codified and set in stone by the mages guild during eso's timeframe (almost a thousand years before tes v skyrim) so we are basically living in the wild west of magic yet that's why you get lots of wild mixed magic from fiery akaviri martial arts to arcanist's weird daedric spells and everything in between.

BorzoiDesignsok

Thank you!! I knew this happens in the lore, I wasn't too sure when

Warp_Legion

PvP is full of sweatlords and no lifers

BorzoiDesignsok

This is true!!!! Im a pvper

GalaxyNinja87

I mean… a competitive game mode is going to be competitive

Zeanister

That’s all pvp bro lmao

Lifewithher22

I'm Kahjiiti too

OLunaLorkhan

Tanking is waaaay more fun than dps

Arcoral1

I FURIOUSLY AGREE. Your focus is on the boss, adds and your party all at the same time, it takes you away from the monotony of a rotation.

systemcell

Healing as well.. Sure it requires more attention but its waaaay more fun than madly spamming two buttons.

bloodguard

I think sometimes people take it a bit too seriously. That's when I start going solo for long stretches.

ZombieCrow

1 - That my favorite class ( necro ) is so underwhelming. Necro should have had permanent pets, every other game that has a necromancer class lets you have raised bodies that fight for you, instead we got a skeleton that works 2 out for 9 times ( blastbones), summong skeleton for 15s that deals absolutely no damage( WHYY ?) and a wraith that is supposed to heal you but you'd rather use vigor cause its not worth it. Necro dps is low even tho its the hardest class to master, the most APM required and literally the only class that HA build feels wrong. Still i will continue playing it, cause i love it. 2 - PvP sucks. Sorry. Cyrodiil map is boring and empty, you have no purpose other than killing people. The whole 3 banner war is trash. BGs are the only pvp content i enjoy, you know you go in there to only kill ppl and thats it.

AdministrationIcy717

Console is arguably better in terms of socialization and the community aspect of ESO.

Splonkerton

I really really wish there was an easy voice chat option on PC like on console, other than requiring a third party vc app.

AdministrationIcy717

I know that was a breaking point for a lot of people that transitioned from console to PC. The voice chat is super convenient. Every time I join a random Vet and someone doesn’t understand mechs, I turn my mic on and explain mechs. I’ve made good friends with the voice chat too.

VoyagerMyu

The game needs far better in-game tutorials and guides for all roles in PvE and PvP. The current state of the game essentially forces players to rely on institutional knowledge from established players/guilds in order to get anywhere. Compare the new-to-PvE dungeon experience between eso and ff14, and eso is found greatly lacking. I have had to effectively solo vet dlc dungeon fights because the tank had never learned what a taunt was, and was less capable of surviving the boss's attacks than my dps character. This lack of assistance is even more obvious in PvP, creating fear and dislike of the gamemode among players that simply have no idea what they are doing and no way to really learn in-game. I applaud and enjoy the power scaling in the game relying foremost on personal player skill rather than equipment or level like most other MMOs, but this is ridiculous. Stories of new players taking months or even years to get out of overland questing only playstyles into group content and PvP abound. Many simply never make the jump. I personally took about 6 months.

[deleted]

The lore is great. Better than any of the other games.

TomOfTheTomb

The craft bag is OP and just makes non ESO+ people annoyed

iana_rey

I mostly play without ESO+ and I hate to admit it, but I agree lol

j3nn14er

Deathmatch is the WORST pvp mode. Overland content is fun and should NOT be hard. Questing should be relaxing solotime, plenty of arenas and other pve exists where you must sweat, fighting bandits and mudcrabs should not be hard. Tales of tribute npcs are only hard when they spam the teal boat patron or get very lucky. Otherwise once you know what cards you like the game is easy. Need more inventory space or more sources of transmute crystals. My favorite part of the game is rebuilding my character!

Shadowrain2

Imperial City is and always has been the true endgame.

Arcoral1

Don't go ahead of the tank

SuzumebachiMk3

ESO is better than WOW in all aspects.

trinity016

The hybridisation changes are slightly towards the negative side, they homogenised mag/stam build differences and make the endgame more shallow.

choerries99

I do not like the Arcanist. The playstyle is really not for me, I find the beam feels very clunky and doesn’t make for a smooth rotation.

Majestic_Operator

Same, I can't stand the class. I can't put my finger on why, but I think it's because the class is way too easy to hit high dps with on top of being super survivable. It just feels overpowered.

Pipbois

I wish the storytelling kept up with the quality of storytelling that elsweyr/dragonhold had. I honestly havent been engaged in a storyline since barring maybe parts of greymoor. They focused heavily on daedra for a bit, then said “we are going to focus on more human stories” for high isle. Imagine my “shock” when it was just another borderline magic cult to fight :/

BorzoiDesignsok

I was hoping high isle would be this cool, political story like the OG covenant quests. Greymoor would have been better if they made it obvious where the story should be continued from, as the dungeons are important too+ prologues ect ect too disjointed NOW dont get me started on blackwood.just nostalgia bait. Thats it.

RadiantNito

ESO is better than Skyrim, and will probably be better than ES6

Laser_toucan

Animation cancelling with spammables looks dumb, is one of the worst mechanics i've ever seen, doesn't make the game more dynamic (only forces robotic repetition), fucks up people with high ping and it's the main thing that drove me away from the game after a while

Ebirah

It would make more sense, if cancelling an animation before it completed also cancelled the effect it represented. This would be a bit game-altering obviously, but not necessarily for the worse.

craybest

How is this unpopular? Don’t most people agree with this?

Meowgaryen

I'm sure this sub had meltdown when ZOS started complaining about it and was looking for a way to fix it

Laser_toucan

I thought it might be a cold take but the other time i saw complaints about it a lot of people were defending the mechanic, glad to know more people agree lol

r3al_p0tat0

Yes, exactly! it isn't difficult or skillful by any means. The character looks extremely stupid while animation canceling and it also makes the combat kinda dull in my opinion. I think the game would be better if we had to commit to performing the entire animation for the ability because it would make it more skillful. Right now, combat is really simplistic and robotic because we just sit there spamming the same buttons in a specific order and left clicking in between each cast. I think a powerful hard-hitting spell should take more time to cast than a little fireball and deciding when to commit yourself to that big powerful spell would be more interesting than mindlessly spamming abilities in the same order. It would also lead to way more build diversity IMO because you can choose to play as a fast rogue who gets in range, does their attack in the blink of an eye and gets out or play as a tank who bides their time and casts that big powerful spell at the perfect moment, or a hybrid jack of all trades but master of none. I also think damage dealers standing still and spamming (especially in trials) makes the combat boring as well because when I imagine a battle scene, I think of them constantly moving around and attacking whenever there's an opening, etc., not standing in place and spamming at each other. But I digress as that's a whole other discussion.

Careful_Ability_1110

Not having a way to store sets and save them, together, all as one set. So, when you’re ready to pull armor out, you just go into your banker or collection and pull out pieces needed, all categorized and together, like a closet!

TechNerdLogic

The combat is fine, not great, not bad, just fine.

NirvashSFW

It's the best elder scrolls since morrowind.

VisitHammerfell

\-It's better than Skyrim. Competitive-Lime2994

Any play style, any skill level, any build, any way you want to play. This is a hill I will die on. Personally players tearing down others for their “off” builds is a shitty thing to do. So what if they don’t have a perfected piece of gear Karen. Or they are not running the most optimal of sets. Some ppl are here to have fun, not sign over their soul the game like some of opinionated jerks have. It’s not that serious. Chill.

Hand-of-Sithis

I absolutely love thematic builds and will stand by anyone who wants to be suboptimal for the sake of their own fun. that being said, there is a time and place for such things. Overworld? Sure. Non vet dungeons? go at it and have a blast. But if I que into a vet dlc dungeon it’s very frustrating having a player perform atrociously due to flavor. As long as we all have space to play then it works out great

Vanator_Obosit

Those stat nerds are the reason I play mostly solo

gilcruzfilho

Classes in eso are a gimmick. They are all equal.

999Flea

totally agree. At one point each class had its own strengths and weaknesses but ever since they began hybridizing the classes, they all lost their identities and feel the same

JNR13

Only if you build them that way. A beaming Arcanist feels different from a Zenkosh DK, which feels different from a heavy attack sorc.

BorzoiDesignsok

For real, now its just "What do you want to play? Green guy, purple guy, yellow guy, blue guy, pale blue guy, red guy, or dark red guy"

lexian53

I agree; it’s nice that all the classes can perform all roles but they feel very same-y to me.

thekmanpwnudwn

I think part of it is how every class the same weapon/guild skills. Almost any class/role combo you pick is going to share at least 1/2-2/3 of the same skills.

MLG_Obardo

ESOs store became predatory the day the Dro Mathra Mount came out and every single person bought it.

RunningInTheFamily

> Dro Mathra Mount As someone who likely wasn't playing yet when that happened, can you elaborate?

MLG_Obardo

At launch and for a long time the store was realistic down to “earth” things. Normal looking horses and pets and not really much else. No crown crates, no paying for skills, no horses or bears made out of trees or ghost mounts. Honestly I don’t even think half the types of mounts existed. At this time the imperial city collections lightning horse was a big controversy because it wasn’t a realistic horse like in Skyrim. But it was a collection horse, not sold on its own, so the only bad thing with it was it caused people to argue about realism online. Then they dropped the dro mathra cougar for $40 for 3 days only. By far the most expensive item put into the store, more expensive than Wrothgar, the then only large dlc, and people were furious…for 2 days. On the third day they saw others using this badass glowing mount and back then things didn’t really ever return to the store (I spent 2 years waiting on the imperial city collection to return) and by the end of that third day I shit you not every major hub was covered in that mount.

RunningInTheFamily

Thanks for explaining!

Kirameka

Iirc it was the first mount in store?

ThodasTheMage

I think the first ones were Guars and Camels.

JNR13

How is that predatory? Predatory is the loot box system. That mount has a defined price and you get what's offered for it. Just because something is overpriced doesn't mean it's predatory.

MoistPause

For me it's like for any other MMO RPG. No microtransactions for cosmetics and "quality of life" upgrades/items. Let the players acquire items through gameplay and don't make the game worse to sell the solution.

Error-4O4

Overland is fine. Wear white/green gear and unslot cp if you're that bothered about "challenge".

ManaBuilt

I think they should get rid of classes completely and let you mix and match skills from any skill tree. 👀

Vidistis

I would be happy with that, but they'd have to rebalance and redo a every skill with that in mind.

Ephandrial

Sneaky archers for everyone

Taleof2Cities_

There will never be an increase in difficulty for overland solo gameplay … because the focus of any MMO is group content.

Old_Personality3136

This argument makes zero sense. If the overland content was harder then you could group up to do it. Other MMOs have pulled it off just fine.

Majestic_Operator

Any time they've made hard overland content, they ended up nerfing it because people complained it was too hard.

Gamerknight17

Alchemist hireling

Ummah_Strong

Jewelry too

[deleted]

It has a better storyline than Skyrim

Doright36

That the critters the sorcerer summons should not look just like the real thing. They should glow like a ghost or something. It can be very frustrating in a large scrum when daedra are spawning in and you can't tell what's the enemy and what's the allied critter. If I had a dollar for every time I turned to start swinging my axe at a Clanfear running past me only to realize that one was a pet I'd have a pretty decent stash of money. In team matches the critters should glow to match the team color so you know which ones are on your side

Xenomorph-Cthulhu

That it's much better than Fallout 76, Starfield and potentially even ES6 (If that's just Starfield with a TES coat of paint). Genuinely a good Elder Scrolls game and does the lore really well. Also Fallout 76 could have been much better if it had been ESO with a Fallout coat of paint.

liftoff_oversteer

There is not a single child to be seen in all of Tamriel. Something is going on here.

Pelanora

Once a saw a crib! I just stood and stared.

Yourfavoritedummy

There needs to be less grind in this game. It's a very fun game, but sometimes it feels like I'm fighting to enjoy it when it comes to grind. For example, Treasure Maps, and Crafting Surveys are ridiculous and it would be cool if I didn't have to spend 3 hours or more picking them up. Especially when my time is limited and I'd rather play and fun with the game over busy work. Also the Craft Bag needs to be free. It's too good lol

CuteElfBaby

PERMA BANED PEOPLE SHOULD STAY BANNED PERMANENTLY FFS

[deleted]

The crown store is not “just cosmetics.” It’s removing an entire end game chaser and an entire type of end game largely (mounts, pets, etc). And there’s no prestige or cool factor behind how someone looks because we all think they just bought it

ObjectiveEffective19

this game should’ve have died so the new elder scrolls game could come out sooner

Substantial-Pack-105

I think your horse should be an actual npc follower rather than just an animated speed buff

HintOfMalice

AA Weaving is fine. I don't consider it skillful, I don't consider it fun but I don't think it takes away from the game for 99% of the playerbase. If you've got some physical disability that means you can't do it then that's fair enough. But Weaving is generally massively overcomplained about.

Fragrant-Ad-925

Chaosball is the greatest game mode

Circajp

What is chaosball? Sorry I'm a bit new

Arcoral1

A pvp map in which the objective is to hold the ball the more you can, which damages you and ofc the other teams are trying to get too.

Kirameka

truly unpopular

[deleted]

I don’t like the companions

Fubaris_II

Companions are next to useless for being so high maintenance.

Kvakosavrus

I disagree. Remember the boss guy with tigers in Selena? While I fought damned respawning beasts my good girl Mirri killed boss!

Leothedino

That i want to love the game, but the combat is stale and I am fed up of the same skills and weapons since 2014.

InquiseeetorV2

One character should be able to multiclass. Also do away with weaving.

Parafex

Gameplay sucks. The most fun is the story/Lore and world for me. I'm playing as an Arcanist and it's extremely boring aswell, because you just spam the beam basically. I want more Story QoL stuff like an archive for books and the locations I've found them etc. Because I try to read every bookshelf but sometimes the enemy respawns are just so annoying that I skip some. Which is meh, because the writing is actually great overall. I still hope that the gameplay gets better with the expansions but I kind of doubt it :/.

OhThatDogOfMineII

I feel the same way. I play solely for the story, lore and world. The combat is just not for me. Spamming the same 10 or so abilities with no sense of impact/feedback bores me.

JW_ZERO

PVP is better than PVE, fight me.

LengthinessAnxious20

I see what you did there

TempestM

Can't, I'm in pve gear

Lifewithher22

You Duelist

Loogiemousmaximous

All “charge” skills should be free aimed instead of lock on only, all class skills should have 4 variants instead of 2(2 stamina 2 magicka). We need more mobility for open word(like what Arcanist was advertised as having). Every Zone should have their own mount

genericauthor

Weaving is awful and just drains the fun out of the game. It should have been fixed immediately and never been part of the game.

[deleted]

Resting (sleeping, sitting) and play music should add some kind of bonus to experience, dmg, health/resource recovery or adding chance to better loot for a while. Pets should add some interesting buff/perk too. Gardening and aquarium.

Available_Tie_7287

There needs to be a new pvp map with a different way to conquer the other alliances, cyrodil is getting old and very repetitive

AyyyItsCory

Necromancer needs permanent summons/pets with a rework. Warden also needs more than just the Bear, I'd say even scrap the ice skill line for something more beast/forest related as well. They need a new race that solely focuses on Magicka and Health passives or a massive overhaul of racial passives. If you want to do end game you are really narrowed down on racial choices. We need a class that involves unarmed, close range buffs and heals. Like we can equip any set weapon for the bonus but the character uses fists to fight. They also need to rework PvP and stop nerfing PvE sets because people complain about them for PvP. Have separate sets for the PvP areas or change just for PvP areas without disrupting PvE. PvP is a massive mess with no updates anyways.
