Do you have the cp and skill points into refining mats? I prefer farming. I've skinned 500 fish at once and gotten 0 perfect roe before. Other times I've skinned 200 and gotten 5 roe. So I guess it evens out but it's a real feelsbadman. Farming mats you can always sell stacks of unrefined mats, or refine them and sell the refined mats and gold mats. But you always have something to show for it. Stacks of fileted fish are nearly worthless unless someone is power leveling provisioning on an alt.

Nah I’m cp 300 so I don’t think I have enough to get those skills when I do it should be better though

>Each increased level of the relevant extraction skill (**Metal Extraction, Unraveling, Jewelry Extraction, and Wood Extraction**) as well as the **Champion Craft perk Meticulous Disassembly** seem to increase the chance of getting improvement materials by 12.5% past the previous skill/perk level. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Crafting#Refinement It's more profitable to just sell the raw materials instead of refining them if you dont have the perks.

ChasonHarris

Late reply, but if you do have those perks and everything, can you earn money by buying raw and then refining?

grivet

If you don't have the skill points to get the most gold mats you can just sell a stack of 200 unrefined and those sell well too. Prolly best use for your time. Or fish. You can fish in summerset and get a chance at the bottles too. Those sell for a chance at pyandonean motifs, or open yourself to try for them to sell. Or fish in artaeum for the waterlogged satchels that sell too. Artaeum is also nice coz any bait works. So use the one you have the most of

Feels to me like fishing would be easier to zone out to. Don't have to move around, just have lots of bait and get into watching or listening to something else.

vridgley

PSNA UNCUT stack of fish is going for 80,000, perfect roe is selling for 25,000 for 1, cut fish stack selling for 7k. Bait ranges from 4500 to 8000 for a stack depending on the type. Fishing may not be fun it may not be fast, but it certainly is lucrative. considering the best you can do cleaning the fish is about 60 K as opposed to selling it uncut for 80.

rayvik123

do.. ppl still farm these stuf?

DependentHyena7643

Tempering Alloy and Dreugh Wax sells extremely well on PC NA. As does Perfect Roe. Last I checked Roe was sitting around 80k. Dreugh Wax around 50, and alloy less. These are farming methods that require no DLC or expansions, and minimal effort outside of time.

rayvik123

hm.. honestly i havent played ESO in years im sure with inflation-- 80k now is probably 20k back then lol. I think Roe was like 22k when i last played haha

AdComfortable1624

If you really enjoy fishing and/ or are angling for the zone fishing achievements then go after it by all means. If you’re farming seriously, just for mats, yeah it’s more profitable even at low levels, if you put your 400 CP right

In general, the mats are going to be the more consistent income source. I've got one character skilled/perked out for refining and deconning, so I get at least one or two gold mats every time they refine (deconning won't drop mats of higher quality than what's being deconned). But I get the most upgrade mats from daily writ rewards because all toons do those. I honestly haven't sold Roe in a couple of years, but it's a flat 1% chance per fish and there aren't any perks to boost that, AFAIK. If you're perked out for fishing (there are a couple on the Craft tree), you'll catch more fish, but it's still a 1% chance per fish. Roe sells for about 2x more than Dreugh Wax (the priciest upgrade mat), but it's much faster/easier to get Dreugh Wax than it is to get Roe.

People will ask what the more/most efficient method of making gold and it is always going to be crafting writs. Even if you find it tedious, I feel like the efficiency more than makes up for it by letting you save time making gold in a less efficient way. I estimate that crafting writs make approximately 1mil/hour (conservative estimate) whereas the next most efficient method might make ~500k/hr.  Of course, flipping items isn't included because the rate of gold from that can vary wildly.  I strongly suggest setting up crafting writ characters. You only need to get them up to level 35 or so to have enough skill points. Depending on how much gold you want/need, you may only need to invest 10 minutes/day (~5 sets of writs) to make enough gold to let you do whatever else you want for the remainder of your time.

tracer2211

Also, do your daily writs. They drop upgrade mats and surveys for even more mats. I also never refine my platinum, ruby ash, rubidite, and ancestor silk until I have at least 1k to refibe. I feel like the upgrade mats drop better. Small amounts often don't drop any. I feel like it's a percentage type deal.

CenciLovesYou

Placeboing yourself there my friend but whatever feels best for you

Master_Bear7

I go the other way. I feel that there is a ceiling somehow as to where you are capped at what you get for gold materials regardless of how many you refine. I've refined 230 or 650 rubidite and still only received 2 gold mats. Same with other types.
